The good: breakfast (8am - 9am) is bland but sufficient. There is a nice pub / village nearby. ||||The bad: noise travels from other rooms / floor boards / the [busy] road easily. The decor is tired and the curtains smell damp.||||The [very] ugly: one of the owners walked into a female aquaintance's room whilst she was changing/topless without knocking first. ||||He also got very angry because I hadn't realised that check-out was 1030 - this was an honest mistake. At 1040, as I was packing to leave, he rang the police (even though I'd made it clear I was leaving as quick as I could). He then began to spit homophobic abuse at me ("puffter snowflake") and did an impression of an effeminate gay man ("oooh, you're upset I said that are you?")||||I am very sorry I didn't read the check-out time carefully enough, but I think the over-reaction was quite revealing. The aggressively defensive replies to any negative reviews online about Grayling House are similarly quite revealing. ||||After being kicked out of the B&B with a slammed door, and no way to get to the train station unless I wanted to walk over 6 miles, the pub next door offered me refuge, ordered me a taxi, and told me Mick was well-known locally for being a very strange man.||||I am sure lots of people would appreciate this B&B - however I'd advise solo LGBT+ / female travellors to avoid staying here and putting yourself in...
Read moreI stayed here recently for the weekend while attending an event in the area. The room was clean and tidy ,dated decor , old rough towels. I wished I had taken my own. The owner was very friendly and bought fresh milk to the-room but there was no fridge . The bed was very hard as were the pillows. We had a continental breakfast and were asked if we wanted a full English breakfast to kindly order the day before so on the Saturday morning that’s what I intended to do . However in the rush to-get to the event we were attending I forgot so i texted instead .. i was told it was £10 each extra as stated on booking.com .. so I thanked him but said we would leave it. On looking on booking.com it didn’t state this at all but said breakfast was included. The other problem with it was the noise..You could hear other guests in their rooms and on the landing. I was told my telephone conversation with my partner could be heard in the room opposite. Although the owner was pleasant I wouldn’t return as-the facilities and lack of privacy weren’t...
Read moreWe stayed at Grayling House last week for 5 nights. It's a lovely, homely B&B. Rick and Lorraine are the perfect hosts, very welcoming, you both definitely make it feel home from home.
The room was checked every day, the bed was made, water replenished, toiletries replenished, tea and coffee replenished and bins changed.
Continental breakfast was lovely. We couldn't have asked for more, it had everything you could need/want. Fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, orange juice, tea and coffee, toast and croissants with a variety of spreads to choose from.
We absolutely loved our stay and we will be coming again.
Thank you again Rick and Lorraine for being wonderful hosts and adding to...
