I'm finding this a difficult review to write as there were some pros and cons that I guess average out.||||The location is rural (very rural) and the single track road over the last stretch is nerve wracking (we had to reverse for a stretch on 1 occasion). It's 8-10 minutes to Bradford on Avon and 15 or so to Bath. So if you like quiet and peaceful but being relatively close to things, this will be fine. My daughter was amazed to see the Big Dipper so clearly in the night sky.||||Our big draw was the price -- very reasonable for 2 rooms (family of 4) over the August Bank holiday weekend. Half as much (if that) of some of the other options in Bath. It's important to keep that in mind and it is a good value though may not stack up against some of the nicer places.||||The family room would have been too small so I'm glad we opted for 2 rooms (50 GBP/room/night with no minimum stay over the holiday weekend). Nice large, new bathrooms too.||||The breakfast was wonderful -- locally sourced, some from their own farm. But, since it is a small B&B you are required to put your breakfast time down the night before. That felt a little restricting (it would have been nice to have the coffee going ahead of time too).||||The hosts, Barb & Chris, were nice but not as welcoming and helpful as others. I got the impression that she didn't know what to think of us (American ex-pats with kids in this country home). She did start to warm up to us on the last day. Again, it was fine but missing that special connection that we've had in other B&B's.||||So, we'll probably look for something different should we return but we'd stay again if...
Read moreWe stayed in the Shepherds Huts at Great Ashely Farm last weekend and had the best weekend. Just the two of us, a chance to get away and relax which we did. Having stayed in the fantastic bed and breakfast rooms before, we know its a great location, quiet, charming and idyllic. The Shepherds Hut is beautifully decorated, warm, cosy, comfortable, surprisingly spacious with excellent storage. The under floor heating and oodles of hot water is a bonus. There was an amazing welcome box of goodies waiting for us when we arrived that included fresh farm eggs, fresh bread and butter, homemade jams, locally sourced cider. It was such a treat. The location is quiet and a real "hideaway from it all" destination. We caughted up on sleep and relaxed. I'd recommended it to everyone and excellent...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived we were amazed by the attention to detail, from a comprehension guide on the area (including places to eat) to a tray with tea, coffee, biscuits etc. The room was beautifully decorated and very welcoming. The farm is set in a really rural, peaceful area ideal for switching off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Breakfast was superb, there was a huge variety that would suit every taste. It was all very fresh and the cooked breakfast was cooked to order and delivered straight to the table meaning it was hot! Lastly I have to say that Helen was the perfect host. From the moment we met her nothing was too much trouble. Not only did she recommend the perfect pub for dinner, she even booked it for us and she cooks the best breakfast! Thank you Helen we will be...
