We stayed at Hallagenna Cottages, Old Barn, during October half term for a break with family and friends.
Hallagenna Cottages is directly opposite Hallagenna Farm and gated with signs, so it is easy to distinguish between both on arrival.
Mick and Janine were the ultimate hosts, and we felt like family throughout our stay. They could not do enough to help us and share tips on the surrounding area/places to visit, etc. I can not express how incredible they were all week - always greeted us with a welcome and smile.
We stayed in Old Barn, and our friends stayed in another cottage onsite. Old Barn was immaculately clean and exactly what we were looking for - warm, cosy, and decorated both tastefully and to a high standard. All the rooms and living areas had plenty of space for our needs.
What goes above and beyond other places that we've stayed at is the beautiful welcome pack of biscuits and scones and other treats. There are also lots of other extras in the apartment and kitchen that you don't find in other cottages such and washing up liquids, milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, cooking oil, drying cloths etc.
The cups and plates are also of a high standard, and it shows how much care has gone into making the cottages just right.
One thing the we felt Mick and Janine should highlight more is how thorough their cleaning is of the buildings and how much effort they put into ensuring everything is deep cleaned since Covid. The effort that goes into this blew our minds and way beyond anywhere else we have stayed. It's a huge testiment to themselves and the place!
There's also individual parking spaces for each cottage, so you're never having to worry about finding somewhere to park.
Mick and Janine's daughter has a candle making business. We were able to buy these onsite for gifts. They smelt amazing and were great value for money as well, in comparison to the prices of others we looked at in shops around Cornwall. I highly recommend getting these during your stay.
Hallagenna Cottages are surrounded by the moors with a great variety of wildlife to be seen from your doorstep and great walking opportunities in every direction. We loved the Highland cows, the bridge crossing above the stream, as well as the many wild ponies roaming nearby.
Mick and Janine recommended The Old Inn pub that was only a 10 minute walk down the road. We visited this place three times in the week, and the food portions were out of this world.
We are already planning our next trip back and would not hesitate to recommend Hallagenna Cottages to everyone. If you're looking for a quiet, private place to stay, you won't find better...

Nice & friendly great pub menu & awesome Sunday lunch. Booking is a must. On the edge of the moors, I booked so l could use my 60th birthday treat. Went flying at the local airport on Saturday over the coast. Place is central to other attractions, either 30 minutes to 1 hour. Booked a riding lesson while there. Which is on site. Jenny, the owner, was a lovely instructor & her team was brilliant. Definitely recommend staying here. I will go back as so much to see & do. The only downside was the single bed. I'm used to a...
