I was treated to a fantastic meal for my birthday. My Aunty, Uncle and Cousin eat here often and have fallen in love with the place. This was my first visit, but it will hopefully be far from my last! The beautiful building is large, but very welcoming. We weren't lucky enough to be staying but after our resteraunt visit I'm already thinking of a dinner and room treat! The finish is a lovely balance of a traditional victorian country house, tastfully finished to a high standard, light and airy, while keeping in style with the building, but also giving off an atmosphere of a home, relaxed and friendly. The owners show an obvious passion and love, for not only what they do, but the building and grounds. I can understand why this is a very popular wedding venue. The staff were very professional but friendly, and all were neat and tidy, which for me is important. We sat in a spacious area with large comfortable sofas and tables to wait, have a drink, and try to choose our meals from a lovely menu, which, I believe had something for all tastes. There is separated bar area, this we did not use, but it looked to be of the same high standard. I never felt rushed to choose from the menu and the young man to take our orders was knowledgeable, friendly and patient. The resteraunt is the same high standard but to me the most impressive thing was that the space was used for diners comfort and not for the till drawer! There was lots of room between tables and table sizes were very comfortable, much nicer than tables being squashed in and reduced in size to fit as many diners in as possible. I cannot comment on prices as I was very lucky and had mine paid for, (my boyfriend read the menu to me so I didn't get to see) but I can honestly say it was the best meal I have had. Not over portioned but definitly not left hungry, in fact, I would say perfect, everyone said how lovely everything was, I normally hear at least one person with at least one niggle but nothing. There is possibly one thing that could make me even happier....... bigger desserts, they were gorgeous, I would make room for bigger desserts, lol. Well done and thank you to all at the Heather Glen, I had a fantastic birthday family dinner, hope you enjoyed the birthday cake I left for you, we'll...
Read moreWe first discovered this gem three ago, and it’s been our go-to retreat ever since. Nestled in the peaceful countryside of Ainstable near Penrith, it feels like a secret slice of paradise every time we visit.||We always opt for the dinner, bed, and breakfast rate — and honestly, the food is five-star plus. The standard is so exceptional, it could easily hold its own in the very heart of London. Every dish, from breakfast to dinner, is cooked with care, flair, and fresh, homemade quality. Breakfast in particular is a dream: plush, generous, and absolutely delicious.||The rooms are equally impressive. Whether you choose a standard double or one of the more luxurious options, every detail is carefully thought out, making your stay both comfortable and memorable.||It’s a true family-run business, and Damon, his parents, and Dave and the entire team are just heaven. Nothing is too much trouble, and their warmth and genuine care make us feel incredibly welcome — and, frankly, very humble each time we leave.||They’re not open early in the week (usually Thursday to Sunday), and they host many weddings — and for good reason! The venue, scenery, and gardens are simply stunning. I can imagine no better backdrop for a special day.||To Damon, his family, and all the staff: thank you for making every stay unforgettable. You’ve created something truly special here, and we’re so grateful...
Read moreWe stayed here for a single night on route to Scotland as it seemed like a great halfway point. It is ! The hotel is just as in the pictures, a beautiful sandstone building. The interior was very stylish and tastefully done. Having driven for a while and needing a stretch of the legs the staff were very friendly in our welcome and suggested a pleasant walk around the lanes before dinner. The hotel is in a lovely quiet country setting and overlooks it's well kept garden and adjacent fields. The room was tastefully decorated with a nice spacious ensuite. The bed was very comfortable and with decent pillows. We had pre booked an evening meal at the hotels restaurant and was really very pleasantly surprised. There was a wide selection of choices for starter, main and pudding and for a great price at that. The food was well cooked and delicious. Our starter arriving on the table pretty much as we did. The restaurant was actually pretty busy with lots of visitors out for a great meal. We know this because it turned out that surprisingly we were the only guests for the hotel overnight. A great...
