We stayed in Willow lodge. It was lovely and clean. Contemporary furnishings and lots of thought has gone into what facilitates and equipment people need on a luxury self catering holiday. The hot tub was a bonus and quite private in Willow lodge. The decking area is enclosed so great for our dog to wander around without worrying about him. |The tv was easy to log on to your own entertainment accounts we watched our now tv.|The location and setting of High Oaks Grange was fab. We walked a circular route into Pickering through woodland and fields, very pleasant. The dog exercise field was a bonus and plenty of poo bins strategically placed , get a thumbs up. All in all luxury and facilities.|Unfortunately there were a couple of ( significant) downsides to the stay. Parking by the cabin is limited and the cabin next door to us parked 4 cars at one point blocking us in nose to nose. Quite rude really. They did move when asked. However returned to their cabin at 10:45 pm(and blocked us in again) . The car park for additional parking is quite small and was full all the time.|The real deal breaker and why we won’t return to High Oaks Grange again was the bed. The mattress was soft and lumpy giving us back and hip aches. My husband has emailed feedback about the mattress and was told Hypnos mattresses are used in all cabins and are very comfortable. When I looked up Hypnos mattresses on google it gives problems with them as becoming lumpy and uncomfortable and causing aches and pains the same as we felt. In addition, the mattress had a plastic mattress cover on it which was like sleeping in a carrier bag. It caused you to get warm and then moisture condensed on you making you cold. We booked 3 nights we stayed 3 days but just 2 nights we couldn’t face another terrible nights sleep. |So a mixed bag really. Beautiful lodge, lovely grounds and location - awful nights sleep and not...
Read morewe stayed in the very tranquil and SUPER equipped Cropton cottage, what didn’t this place have? How many self catering holidays have a garlic press, a wine cooler or a PS4 ...not to mention the hot tub and log burners, with every need met by Anna, who was always easy to find no matter what the issue, more fire wood, you got it!! and with the cold nights coming in it was needed. The setting is beautiful, very peaceful, no traffic noise, the gated drive leading upto to the cottages, lodges and glamping pods, passing farm animals and local footpaths made you feel secure and like you were in Beverley Hills. Estate Manager Anna was very attentive, courtesy phone call on the morning before we set off from her making sure our arrival was smooth and if we had any questions, didn’t go unnoticed, very warm and welcoming and advised us that there was a welcome hamper in the cottage ready for our arrival (WOW what a hamper it was) and a welcome letter which was a lovely touch. Everyday you could see or hear someone busy keeping the site looking immaculate whether you was a new arrival or current guest. We had no problems or issues, except from my clumsy heavy handedness with the dish washer, but Anna was to hand and sorted the matter out straight away. Anna asked in our ‘welcome to our home away from home’ letter if there was anything we can improve on and i can faultlessly say nothing, except and its minor, except a lock on the inside of the gate to the garden of the cottage hot tub garden area, just because we woke up on afew mornings and the rear gate was open and we didn’t feel fully secure, as we’d left our clothing and bathing robes outside while we were asleep, other than than that a total faultless haven of a get-away in North Yorks and this is someone who insists of going abroard as a holiday, opinion well and truly reset, thank you Anna, see you...
Read moreWe stayed at Dalby cottage and it was absolutely lovely. Nice and clean with all the faculties that you need. The master bedroom was really lovely. The two single beds in the smaller bedroom were quite short which wasn’t ideal for two adults sharing, but otherwise the cottage itself was great. ||The hot tub was also good but it’s a pity that the temperature couldn’t be turned up slightly as we felt it was a bit chilly. ||The grounds were immaculate and there was of course the 20 acre dog field. One of the reasons we came here was because we have a dog who has limited recall and although we understood beforehand from the staff that the field wasn’t 100% secure we were told was about 99% secure which was good enough for us. ||Our dog did really well in the field in terms of recall training, apart from the occasions where the people in the far barn at the top left of the field constantly kept leaving a really wide gate open, wedged with a metal bar. We kept shutting it but they kept reopening it! Our dog escaped out of the field twice onto the exit and entrance road in High Oaks Grange which was clearly dangerous. We absolutely appreciate that they need access and that High Oaks Grange does not say it’s a 100% secure field, but by leaving this wide gate open constantly it’s 0% secure!! If it wasn’t for this, we would’ve given the holiday five stars out of five as it was otherwise absolutely brilliant. We don’t quite understand why they’ve made the effort to put sheep Fencing all the way round this fabulous 20 acre field, but then it’s completely undermined by leaving the wide gate open!! ||Otherwise it’s a great place to visit as it’s so close to dalby forest and Whitby and we...
