I booked a group booking of 4 pitches many months ago for our Annual Family Camping Weekend. We have done this now for over 8 years. On arriving at Reception a very pleasant man booked us in highlighting on the map as to where we had to pitch. We were on Chestnut field, pitches 131 132 133 & 134. My sister was arriving the following day taking pitch 134. I asked if I could pay in full when my Niece arrived and the man said that was fine. The female Warden then got involved asking why I couldnt pay in full there & then.. she was unpleasant and quite aggressive in her tone which I thought was very unprofessional. We proceeded to our pitch and started setting up. Within an hour of arrival, the female Warden had cycled round asking why we had pitched on 131 saying the caravan was to go there. The caravan was not arriving till the following day! Pitch 134 was already occupied. She was aggressive & obnoxious in her tone yet again which I really did not like. It upset me!!!! Second day we were there she cycled round to tell us that No music was allowed on the site, bearing in mind it was 8.30pm and the music was not loud but understood the site rules the music was switched off. Àgain her mannerism was unpleasant! It really did feel like we were all back at school.... Booking out the next day she caused a fuss with the key fobs saying we had not returned all 4, infact she had dropped one on the road so again, unpleasant. Not sure what her problem was but will not be returning in the immediate future!!
Showers were an issue too... Ice cold on the first day, far too hot on the...
Read morePositive: The park has everything you need. The price is reasonable. But that's about it. We were stuck in traffic on the M25 and called to ask if there was anything available. Check-in is until 7:30 p.m. (the office says 8:00 p.m.), and we said that we didn't know if we would make it because of the traffic. Any other campsite: No problem, book online and we'll send you a code. Or park somewhere and pay tomorrow. This one: Tough luck. We made it, and at the entrance there's a sign: Stop here, stay in your car, don't go to reception, someone will come. We stood there for a long time, but finally went to reception. There we were told that we should have driven one meter further so that the camera could see us! (The waiting area is right in front of the reception window...) The pitch was small. The showers are reasonably sized, but there is no bench. They look modern, but they are a complete failure. Instead of a push button, there is a motion sensor. The idea is that when you stand under it, the shower runs – which is actually good. But here you have to wave your hand directly in front of it, which makes it just as bad as a push button. Worse still, you can't stay in front of it because if you move again, the shower turns off. So you have to wait every time for it to turn off before you can restart it—every few seconds, including temperature fluctuations. Great for washing your hair. I wonder if the people who came up with this idea have ever taken a shower in their lives! Overall, not a...
Read moreWe booked this for 3 nights but had informed a member of staff in advance that we would be arriving a day later that our first day of booking. The website noted that customised vans were not allowed and to contact the campsite in advance to check. I did this and was told our van would be fine but that we would have to stay in our tent and could not have anyone sleeping in the van. We agreed this was fine with us. Upon arrival we were questioned about the van and we were spoken to in a very condescending way and told that staff would check regularly and if we slept in the van would be dragged out of the van. Absolutely ridiculous. The staff member was incredibly rude. We had been supporting our son during the 3 day Devizes to Westminster Kayak race and were tired and just wanted to put our tent up and get food then sleep. We did not appreciate how we were spoken to. Additionally, due to one of the kayak team suffering an injury, their college lecturer drove from Southampton to camp with us and to take the place of the injured kayaker for the next day. He arrived at the campsite intending to camp with us but was charged for an entire pitch for the night £39, there was no leeway to add him to our booking and just allow him to be an additional adult, he had to pay for a complete pitch. We have camped in many campsites, appreciate there are rules but were very shocked to be spoken to the way we were and treated like children. Would never want to stay...
