we went to check out having eaten at the hotel restaurant the night before and having them charge it our room. When we gave the keys back we asked how much we needed to pay and the lady stated nothing. I asked her to check again and she advised nothing to pay. We left the property and about 2 hours later received a call from the manager who stated we had a bill to pay. I advised we were out and advised them to call me back later on that evening so we could make payment as we hadn’t got our cards to hand.

The hotel never called back and then proceeded the next day to hound me whilst I was at work. Earlier this morning I received a vile phone call from the hotel manager stating we were thieves and that it was our error. I stated to him that we asked the lady twice what we had to pay and she stated nothing on both occasions. He started sniggering down the phone saying so you can’t afford to pay a £30 bill. I advised him I never once said we wasn’t going to pay as we had every intention but seen as it was the hotels error I did not wish to be spoke To in the vile manor he had with me over the phone. He then stated he was going to the police and advised it was our word against the ladies at reception. I asked if he had cctv and he stated yes , I asked him if he had look over it to see us asking the lady what we had to pay and he shrugged the question off. I was then threatened on two occasions by the hotel manager and his colleague that they were going to come down to my house and get the payment. I asked him again where I had stated to them that I wasn’t going to make the payment but I was in work and had to leave the office to take the call and politely asked them to call me at 5pm when I finished so I could give them my details to charge my card.

I was told that it wasn’t the hotels error. That we were thieves, threatened and WE should of chased them. I stated that I work from 9-5 pm and actually asked for a call back Sunday evening to make payment which the didn’t do. When they called me Monday it was whilst I was at work as I work in a call centre and cannot leave my desk until my designated breaks. He started sniggering again and threatened me again. The customer service is absolutely disgusting and they way in which we were spoken to is disgusting. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody I would stay well clear.

We had every intention to pay the hotel as we believe it was only right to settle the bill but after asking the lady twice what was to pay and her stating nothing on both occasions we do not think at any point was that our error. But to then be threatened by the manager and his staff like we were low life scum was absolutely...

On arrival at Irton hall. We were in awe of the beautiful building that it was. |We arrived at 12.30 to an empty reception the lights were on, computers on just looked like someone was coming back to the desk,The lights were all off in the bar and restaurant. |We dinged the bell on and off for 1/4 of an hour. Then we rang the telephone number, answering machine. |After waiting for 1 hour we decided to put case in car and go out. We arrived back, were given a room and told the receptionist was only on after 2.30 which is not stipulated in our check in paperwork. 5 pm we went to our room to find hair on the bed ,dead spider under the pillow, coffee all over the sideboard where the tea making facilities were. There was hair in the bath ,Hair on the toilet ,mould on the tiles in the bathroom and the bath mat was so orange with body fat it was a disgrace. Carpet was dirty. We had to wear flip-flops rather than walk on the carpet, we then pulled the toilet seat up and there was dried blood on the back of the toilet seat.|We decided to go out around about an hour later to eat in a different pub up the road as it didn’t feel appropriate to eat there on the way out we spoke to the receptionist we told them about how bad the room was and the reply was we will let the cleaning team know in the morning.|Got back to the room about 10.30 went to bed as we were going early in the morning |Went down for breakfast and I have to say that the breakfast was very nice Everything was laid out very nicely good choice but they were consistent. The teapot was all stains down the front. We certainly would not stay there again we have in the meantime complained to the management but have so far heard...

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as we were climbing Scafell Pike. On the surface the hotel looks amazing, what with its lovely grounds and peacocks that roam around freely. However, delve deeper and it’s actually really grimy and dirty. The foyer area had bugs and cobwebs galore and part of the roof was missing. We entered our room to find that the carpet definitely hadn’t been hoovered recently. There were bits all over the floor which meant you couldn’t walk barefoot (ironic really as they have a tray to say ‘leave your muddy shoes here’). The cupboards and wardrobe weren’t clean and there was a mould problem (we stayed in room 2 with the paint coming off the walls). The bathroom had lots of dead bugs on the floor and windowsill. It really looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. My husband’s side of the bed (clearly a different single bed that had been put together) was very uncomfortable. During the whole stay we only ever saw 2 members of staff, which gives a rather eery feel to the place. The WiFi is shocking…couldn’t even check my emails it was so rubbish, forget streaming!||Breakfast was fantastic and the lady that served us each morning was very friendly and hospitable. Massive shame about the dinner menu. Out of about 15 main meals, their only vegetarian option was a Margherita pizza. It’s the 21st century and in my opinion this simply isn’t good enough. We ended up going to the Strands Inn at Nether Wasdale and it was brilliant!||All in all, a very average stay but it needs more than some TLC. I appreciate it’s an old building but basic cleaning and hygiene was missing, which isn’t good enough..||Unfortunately we wouldn’t...

Where do I start......when you get to Irton hall your greeted by the wildlife, like peacocks,chickens..... extremely friendly cats......one of them escorted me around the grounds.....I have to give a mention to the three ply tissue...takes me back to the days, I was maitre de hotel in Scotts restaurant, when the general manager wanted to cut corners ,and downgrade the toilet tissue...I had to put my foot down, and said that sets a standard above the rest need I say more... Now for the staff, for me the one who stood out amongst all three members was Jamie....the man couldn't do enough...Their I was thinking vegan, might be a bad word here, unlike the previous place,he was able to present a menu, with a vegan option( to be honest it wasn't that special). I had my mushroom rice risotto on hold ,but thought it might be worth it.i have lost count how many times he said ,we hope this won't be your first ,and last visit..I had to give this man full marks.......TO THE MANAGEMENT....TAKE A Page OUT OF THIS MANS BOOKS.....START DOING COCKTAILS....... ESPECIALLY AT WEDDINGS....GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT.... If I was to be super critical the only thing this place is missing is a well being centre ,whereby you can get massages, sauna,yoga...etc etc...other than that very reasonable priced... excellent location...very clean

From helicopters landing on the lawns to the peacocks who greet you, to the resident cat to the welcome and the food, this is a magnificent place that really needs to be experienced and stayed in. As a birthday gift, this was located perfectly near to the so called "fairy pools" and swimming spots, so often seen on social media, and glorious local walks including the local parish church that deserves a mention and visit. The room was luxurious and my partner loved the jacuzzi bath where as I preffered the shower which itself was lush. The bed was so comfy it was hard to get up and start the day with us both having the best sleep ever. As big, BIG coffee drinkers im sure the staff got fed up of us asking for more sachets for in the room, however they were so gracious friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was sumptious and so tasty, and they offered other in house meals too worth a look out. So historic, so elegant, just beautiful. Was sad to leave but glad we had the chance to experience it.

Recently returned from Irton Hall yesterday grounds were lovely and fantastic staff. Restaurant food was hot and fresh we had both dinner and breakfast. We had room 15 which had a beautiful view over the front lawn with a Kingsize bed and a sofa bed. Sofa bed was for our two children. The mattress was so thin you could feel the springs through it, so an uncomfortable night unfortunately. A mattress topper or new mattress would be a great addition as this has also been mentioned in previous reviews. Fire alarm was going off at 10.30pm apparently it’s a faulty sensor. We were then awoken at 7am with loud bass music from below from another guest or perhaps staff quarters. However we had an early start so was not too much of an issue. That said I would definetly return to Irton Hall but would probably stay in one of the other accommodations as we still had a wonderful stay. The pig and peacocks were a lovely addition to this beautiful hall and the staff were very welcoming.
