I stayed for one night in the middle of October myself, prior to running in a race elsewhere in Cumbria and I received a warm welcome upon arrival.||I was shown to my room, which is one of three rooms next door to the pub. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, perfect for an overnight stay and I have to say that bed was one of the most comfortable Ive ever slept on anywhere.||I had an evening meal ( fish and chips ) from the small menu, which was really good and cracking value for money at a tenner. I had one of the local real ales, which was sublime and if I hadnt been running the following day, Id have certainly had a few more !||Ive a read a few reviews on here, where people are criticising the pub / rooms for not being up to scratch.||What I would say is this, the Jolly Anglers is a proper community village pub, in a non touristy area of Cumbria, so it hasnt had a brewery rip out and turned into a pub, that is really a restaurant. Its still proper pub and despite the rooms being " basic ", theyre incredible value for money. Ive stayed in similar rooms in the tourist areas of Cumbria and paid twice the money for a similar room.||In these days, where pubs are shutting at an alarming rate, it warms my heart that pubs like the Jolly Anglers are still open...
Read moreStayed as part of the Dales Way walk. The pub is on the trail and is in a great location. I stayed on a Saturday night in Sept 2023 and the premises was lively with a good atmosphere. The staff on duty were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and the complementary drinks tray was great, chocolate and mints as well. The evening meal was just what was needed after a good days walk and the landlord served us a great breakfast on the day we left. The staff even gave some free carrot cake. The regulars all got on with each other and it had a good community feel about the place. Some reviews I have read seem unkind, this is not the Ritz hotel and does not advertise itself as such. What is offered is a reasonably priced room, good affordable food, a warm welcome and a clean, warm room for the night. Perfect!
Thank you to all the staff at the...
Read moreLovely landlady and chef. Patient with a VERY late arrival and provided a delicicious vegetarian curry with chips - put in the oven to be ready just after I arrived. Augmented that with a delicious Stowford Press Cider.||Comfy single bed, good shower, radiator and heated towel rail I made good use of to dry sodden clothes.||I noticed a foot spa although I didn't use it. Very thoughtful touches for hikers who perhaps make up a large part of their customer base.||Seemed to have picked up good knowledge on the level of difficulty of the Dales Way down to them and also how much easier it would be to get to Bowness.||Nice comprehensive breakfast offering. I had cereals, tea, orange and poached egg on toast.||My lateness was mostly my fault having miscalculated the distance (16 miles is a lot...
