Fabulous long weekend in Willow at Kidlandlee. Whilst I did not love the drive up the hill, the views from the top made it so worth it. The lodge was spotless, beautifully furnished and the welcome gifts for humans and dogs were really thoughtful. The fully enclosed garden to the front meant our dog could potter safely as he wished and we were certain he could not escape. The kitchen had all the bits and bobs you need ( salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid, bin bags etc) meaning you didn't need to schlep them there. The main reason we booked Willow was for the outdoor copper bath and what a treat that was! A highlight had to be night bath stargazing with just a few twinkly lights and a million stars, unforgettable. The underfloor heating meant that the lodge was always toasty, the beds were super comfy, the kitchen was well equipped and the rainfall shower was powerful and hot. It's windy, but it's on the top of a hill so it's gonna be - it didn't stop us from enjoying the garden and we were able to sit out most of the time enjoying the scenery with a cuppa or a beer. I would definitely go back and if you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing break in a beautiful, safe, quiet setting with some good walks with or without a dog I'd definitely...
Read moreThe cottages and lodges at Kidlandlee offer possible the best country side views in Northumberland, simply stunning. All the photos you will see just don't do it justice. Kidlandlee is approached by a gravel forestry commission track which winds it's way up through the valley, over streams and woods. It's a fabulous drive and quite easy. We stayed in one of the wooden lodges, there are 4 of these, all pretty much the same. The views from the bedroom and lounge through the large sliding glazed doors is fantastic. Kidlandlee is all off grid, the power coming from solar panels, wind turbines and occasionally a generator is needed. There are some charging points for electric cars. The reason we have not given 5 stars is that the lodges are a bit stark. Everything you need is supplied but they miss that homely feel. There are old renovated cottages on the estate which probably do feel more homely and have character. We will have to try one of these. There is nothing to compare with the location, views and peace and quiet offered by the Kidlandlee location. Go for one of the older cottages. The only thing they don't have is an outside copper bath, which is an amazing experience. We...
Read moreHigh end cottages - very well finished, well insulated so warm at night and is well kitted out.
The location is a double edged sword, you’re out in the middle of nowhere so amazing views, walks and privacy; but you are in the middle of no where, so expect to do a lot of driving if you want days out.
All the staff we have interacted with from the owner to the cleaning staff have been professional, friendly and helpful.
Very welcoming to our dog, and bowls and dog towels are provided which is helpful.
A great place...
