Loved my stay! We were half an hour early and they still got us to our room staught away. They checked our temperatures and then we didn't have to wear our face masks indoors which was a lot more relaxing. Our room wasnt far from the restaurant and bar. The staff were all so lovely and friendly!!! Our room was very big and spacious as a family of 1 adult and 2 children. There was a big kitchen with a stove and oven, a microwave, cooking oil incase u wanted to cook, glasses and mugs. We had two bathrooms and we also could go sit outside since there was a nice grass and concrete bit right outside our room. The beds were very comfy, i had an amazing night sleep. We were also on the bottom floor and heard no noise from upstairs whatsoever! The shower had constant hot water. The bath was massive and had a shower head attached. There were 2 tvs- one in the lounge and one in the master bedroom. We finished our tea bags so we asked for more and they got they for us staight away, with no problems. The car park was not busy, so there were lots of places to park. From the outside it looked very smart and modern but had an old building. The whole design of the place was smart and elegant. The bar closed at 10pm. The breakfast started at 8.30am to 10am. The rooms came with free soap and cans of diet coke! They had freshly cleaned towels. This place is definitely a place for business workers or old people. Not so much for young children. But teenagers it is good for with adults. They are still serving food and it was high quality! We had lunch first which was delicious and served very quickly. We then had dinner later on which was AMAZING! It did take longer this time but the staff were great about it. They offered us drinks and ketchup or anything we needed which was lovely. Overall i was extremely impressed. I have visited so many hotels before and none have been up to this level! Thank you for a great stay and i will definitely be coming...
Read moreThis is our favourite bar and restaurant and my wife and I come here about once every six weeks or so. We always eat out at least twice a week and always compare wherever we are to Lanes - and Lanes always comes out as superior! The ambience is superb - contemporary style melded within an Edwardian Rectory and the welcome is always warm and friendly. The bar only has one beer but, much to my wife's delight, sells champagne by the glass (£6 a time).
This is probably the only place within miles that offers fine dining and the food, cooked to order, is absolutely superb (although trenchermen may find the portions on the small side - order extras) and nothing is too much trouble for the chefs or waiting staff. The only downside is that the menu could be a shade more extensive and the range of extras a little more varied and exciting.
This is the only place locally that you are able to dress for dinner and not feel out of place. Unfortunately, in this day and age, dressing for dinner for most people seems to imply denim jeans - we even saw one diner wear a stetson throughout his meal without the excuse of being American - this place really should have a dress code!
As far as value goes, I consider it excellent value for money - typically our evening comprises a pint of ale, 2 glasses of champagne, a shared bottle of wine, two three-course meals with extras and coffees for about ÂŁ80.
Lanes would have scored 10/10 but for only having one ale and a menu that could be a shade more extensive. Having said that, it remains the only place I've ever rated as high as 9/10.
As far as the hotel is concerned, we have stayed here several times (and we only live about four miles away) and are able to thoroughly recommend the accomodation, the gym and spa - all...
Read moreI had my wedding at a venue in the area and chose Lanes hotel as the accommodation for ourselves and all our guests (our wedding venue, Brympton House, actually had rooms but we chose to stay at Lanes as their rooms and service seemed to be far superior). This was the best decision we could have made for our wedding.
Our wedding was in the summer of 2021 in the period where lockdown was scheduled to be lifted but wasn't. Half the guests for our wedding were meant to be travelling from abroad but couldn't make it due to UK restrictions. It was an incredibly hard time for us but Shaun was incredible flexible and understanding and we managed to fill all our rooms and create a weekend that our guests have raved about since.
Our guests checked in on Saturday and Lanes did the most phenomenal afternoon tea for us at a very reasonable price and then allowed us to use their beautiful gardens to play lawn boules and croquet and socialise. They also provided delicious pizzas for our evening meal. The bride's parents were also very impressed about how good the breakfast was (which is included as part of your stay).
Despite some chopping and changing of guest list and events and some difficult guests Shaun took everything in his stride and nothing was too much work for the team. They all really pulled through for us and were one of the highlights of our wedding.
I cannot recommend Lanes enough, from the service, amenities, cleanliness and how beautiful the hotel is. If we were to do it all over again we would have chosen to have our wedding here rather than Brympton House.
We look forward to visiting Lanes again for...
