I usually wild camp with my cat and dog further along in Wasdale away from the busy village green area. However, I wanted to visit this immaculate old vicarage with period features which is now a wonderful B and B welcoming weary walkers. I had walked past this place on my many walks around the area and was very curious about this place. It is located opposite the pub down a dirt track. There is plenty of free parking along the green with easy access. The rooms are very nicely presented and maintained. The communal shower/ bathroom was ideal after a long walk. ||||I enjoyed the simplicity of booking the accommodation via the Wasdale Head pub. I simply called up and paid a deposit of £30 to be deducted off the final bill. (£39 per night including breakfast). This is the only B and B in the area that I would recommend. It was very welcoming to solo travellers, serving an unrushed breakfast and overall very clean. ||||There is a residents’ lounge to relax in with large comfy sofas. Tea and coffee making facilities can be found there along with a wide range of walking magazines and books to borrow whilst staying there. It was great having the use of a drying room under the stairs ideal for wet soggy boots and jackets. ||||There was no internet/ WiFi available. My phone is on 02 network and there was no coverage in the village which is odd as I have stayed in more remote countries with better access. There is a payhone in the hall wall accepting coins with a minimum charge of 20p. There is also a pay phone inside the pub at the bar or one outside in a booth. ||||Overall, it was a very relaxing weekend. The weather was heavy rain but we stayed dry in the pub sitting opposite the open fire. We were recommended to visit the local church St Olaf’s. I visited the local shop for supplies. I enjoyed my three day stay here and would return for the wonderful yummy...
Read moreThe location is second-to-none. The breakfast was lovely without being fussy. Lovely coffee. During my 5 day stay, the owner (Tim) was always helpful with any random request (i.e. duct tape to mend map cover, or rubber end to my walking stick etc.)||The breakfast was laid around a big table so there was a real camaraderie as guests sat around the table and talked about what they had done the day before and what they were going to do that day. My room was large and airy - good for spreading out stuff! The bathrooms are shared but there are 2 bathrooms (loo, shower, bath) and 1 separate toilet room between 4 guest rooms, so more than enough. Lovely pictures throughout, and a great collection of books in the lounge. No wifi or mobile reception but you can visit the pub for wifi, and if nec, you can get a mobile signal on some of the neighbouring hills, The lack of wifi & mobile coverage might put some people off, but it was lovely to be free of all that stuff and just walk and read! Read moreWe were welcomed with a magnificent views of the mountains. Tim was a super host. Everything was in order, the inn was very clean and tidy. Even the bathrooms and toilets are nice and tidied. He made us full English breakfast everyday and he made sure our tummies are full before our activities. The rooms are big enough to accommodate 2-3 people, all with the view of the mountains. He even booked us a taxi going home. The place doesn’t have a WiFi nor data coverage but the restaurant in Wasdale Inn a WiFi. But we don’t care, we just enjoyed the scenic views of Lake District. I highly recommend Lingmell B&B in Wasdale if you’re going to visit Lake District...
