My family (with my wife and our 3 kids) recently had a fantastic stay here. The most striking features are the incredible tranquillity, the stunning view of the lake with surrounding mountains and forests, the lovely view of the Conic Hill on the background, and absence of crowds. We stayed in Mellerstain lodge which is just right at the entrance of Loch Lomond Waterfront site. Although the house is not new, it is pretty clean and well-maintained, and filled with all the necessary stuff for a family of five, and it made us really feel at home. This area is not crowded compared with other attraction sites around the Loch Lomond such as Luss, Tarbet or Balloch where there are so much crowds that you can't enjoy the nature. But here are so many things about peace and quietness. The shore is right at the back of the site and there is like a private shore for this lodge, and so there is no one else apart from the people staying at the lodges. It was so quite, peaceful and tranquil. We had so peaceful walks at the shore every morning, listening all the birds' chirpings. The surrounding was so quite that we could even hear the birds from the islands. At night, we had fantastic star-gazing because there was no light pollution, it was the clearest sky I have ever seen for star-gazing. (We were lucky enough to have an unbelievably good weather though.) The view of Conic Hill was amazing on the background of the lodges. If we weren't with the kids, we would do hiking to the top of this Hill (it was so close to the lodges). The lodge is also close to Balloch where we went for water sports. Again it is quite close to the beautiful Balmaha village. The only thing is the phone reception is not great in this area, and the Wi-Fi is not very good. Although it is not the most important thing for a holiday, there are times when the kids want to play games and it was not great. This is one thing the owner can improve. All in all, it was one of the best family holidays we have ever had. We will come back again in the future. 100% recommended.

I had booked for a couple of nights, to get away from some work I was having done in the house. The website was easy to use and subsequent check in Process and instructions for access were easy to follow. The chalet was great, the living areas are nice and spacious, cleanliness was good. The bedrooms are a little small, but okay for a short break. The kitchen is well equipped, though only two tea bags were provided which feels a little mean. Most self catering lodges I have stayed in provide more provisions, often show casing local producers. I had called in advance to update my booking to have a double bed in each room, and to request late check out as my Mum I had a severe critical illness which makes it difficult for her to get going in the morning until her medication takes effect. I was told that late check outs are not possible, they could allow an extra 30 minutes until 10:30am. My message about the beds was not passed on and one room had twin beds, which I shoved together myself for the first night. The beds are pretty firm and I found the pillows very uncomfortable. The chalet had great high speed wifi, which allowed me to work one day while I was there. There is a lovely 5 minute walk to the loch, which is easy underfoot and dogs can get off lead at the waterfront. The dogs were well provided for, with bowls and biscuits and poo bags. The location is great, a very short walk along to the Oak Tree Inn, village shop etc. The location is super quiet, which I loved.

As other reviewers have said we also had a poor experience with the lodge we stayed in (mellerstain). The lodge is very dated and tired. All furnishing are old, outdated and mostly damaged. It is clear no money is being returned back into the lodges to update them. The lodge smelled strongly of bleach when we walked in and give them their due it did feel clean. However this is advertised as “luxury” “5 star” but it is anything but. For £400 per night for self catering you expect up to date appliances, luxury furnishings and a cosy lodge feel. It was our honeymoon and unfortunately was ruined. The walls were dirty/scuffed, paint was peeling off the radiators, mirrors were damaged, kitchen very outdated, air con control hanging off wall, door mats ripped in half, wooden skirtings all damaged, carpet very worn down. The alarm clock from the 90’s sent me over the edge…very “luxury”. Very dated bathrooms. The wood on the balcony’s is not treated or painted so it is rotting and looks unsafe. No chairs on balconies to sit out. I suspect this is a tourist trap due to location but nothing lives up to “luxury” with the interior. There was no management on when we arrived so we notified the handyman that we would be leaving (he was very kind but had no authority to help us). We got swiftly refunded which was great but very telling in that this isn’t the first time they’ve had to do this. Feel sorry for tourists expecting more.

When booking out trip we went through all the options to have a nice view of the Loch with a little private hottub and this was indicated on both the website and the conformation email that this is indeed what we had booked

However on arrival to the site we looked at the map to find that we had been assigned "Duck" hut, we thought must just be a little cabin then which would have been fine in on its own if we still got what was promised.

However, this was not the case; we followed the map down a little road in our car and found what we had assigned was a little tin hut.

We thought maybe it was a mistake and called the telephone number provided, to which the customer service person advised thats what you booked and that's all your getting, which thought very rude after explaining our situation and was looking for an explanation.

As we were on the telephone to the customer service person, someone chapped my car window and told me that I wasn't even allowed to park at the tin hut bit around 100-120 meters back up the path.

So after absolutely 0 customer service, we accepted our fate to our 2-night stay in the hut, extremely disappointed.

The hut itself was decorated nicely and it had everything we needed (bar the hottub), however do not expect any sort of telephone signal or even WiFi in these huts as I had to literally hold my phone out of the window or go outside to even get connected.

During our stay we used the cooking facilities provided which was a hot plate, but unfortunately no instructions on how to use said hot plate, so on with the coat and shoes for a cold stand outside while I had to Google search for the instructions from the manufacturer.

Now that food has been cooked and ate time to clean up, it went well enough, a bit small but expected in such a small tin hut. Then, to take out the bin, open underneath the sink to find that the sink was leaking everywhere underneath!

I tried to contact the telephone number again to inform them of the leak but no answer this time, so I cleaned it the best I could and left a note on exit to advise of this.

And last point on exiting our hut, we noticed two cars parked right outside, not one person told them to move, so why us?

In short, the bad;

It's definitely not the accommodation I expected or wanted Long walk with bags to the hut Terrible customer service Leaking sink Absolutely no chance of WiFi Miss leading website and email Not the 5-star as advertised

The good; Beds were comfortable Hut was ok stocked...

We had an fantastic time in Balmaha for 3 nights four days, made even better by the lovely weather we had.|We stayed in the new studios for two. It did the job but there seemed to be so much lost opportunity with storage. We didn't take that much with us but there never seemed to be anywhere to put anything. Maybe it's just me but I can't see that many people who visit here will want to sit on a chair in the bedroom to put their make up on or dry their hair. They'd much rather have wardrobe space to hang/lay clothes out of the way. The bed and bedding was so comfortable and clean|The lounge area was adequate for two people but the sofa was hard and not very comfortable. Then as we sat down to try and relax and catch the final of bake off the professionals we couldn't get the TV to work. Only to be informed the next day that the TV is for streaming only, you can't get proper channels. Cheers (someone) for not logging out of Iplayer so we could watch sewing bee, as unfortunately I didn't bring any of my channel passwords with me.|The bathroom and the whole studio was nipping clean and the shower was amazing. However there was no hooks to hang wet towels or dressing gowns and I'm certainly not a lover of hanging damp towels on furniture or radiators. Thankfully the weather was fab while we were there, so out they went to dry in the sun.|The kitchen did the job and it was great to have a freezer section in the fridge with an ice cube tray. Again the kitchen area, utensils, fridge , oven were immaculately clean|Thankfully I took my own camping chairs and seat cushions otherwise the outdoor furniture provided would have been very hard and uncomfortable. We were lucky enough to eat both our breakfast and evening meals outside our studio. No midges , no bites.|We walked conic hill and it's so close I didn't have to take the car, so we were able to have a well earned pint at the Oak Inn and then it was an easy few minute walk back to the studio.|We visited Balloch, had lovely walks to the loch on site and around the loch in Balmaha. Went on a Haggis search, listened to live music at the pub. So despite the place being quite small there is loads to do.|We had a fabulous time and with a few small tweaks and my book of passwords it would have been absolute perfection. Thanks for a fabulous time, we have been singing your praises to friends...

Such a mixed bag review which is extremely disappointing as it has so much potential to be perfect!

Good-ish: The location- stunning!! The lodges were well equipped with good decor and incredibly comfy- just make sure you know you have to pay an extra £10 for a remote that allows you to access your own Netflix account!! Pet friendly (to an extent-read to the bottom) with washing facilities what more could you want for a quiet family/ friends getaway. But... Even if your friends/ family occupy the whole of the water front lodges don’t expect to be allowed to have any fun (esp in the hot tubs) past 11pm as that’s when the site manager wants to go to bed.!

Bad: My sister had her wedding at this venue all friends/family stayed on site and the event booking part is where it all goes wrong... I would not Recomend this venue to host a life changing event.!! The bar which you pay to open- has no draft beer. The first night they run out of practically everything. Second night- they bought cans and bottles of wine from the local shop and sold them to you at more than triple the price... my sister in law was sold a bottle of wine for £15 that had a £4.95 sticker still attached. As soon as they were confronted they took the stickers off the rest of the bottles... Absolute joke.!! Food- considering the prices it was completely average. Don’t buy the hog roast and expect to see the hog on the roast... it all comes from the kitchen served in hot plates where it’s warm not hot... if I order a hog roast I want to see the hog!! None of the food was hot. Some staff are completely rude, with very little regard for customer service but the odd one will go well out of their way to help you... luck of the draw. My sister arranged for surprise fireworks for her partner... they let them off directly outside my cabin... the ONLY cabin registered to have a dog staying in it... i had no warning!! I rushed back to my cabin (unable to enjoy the fireworks) to find my dog, a rescue dog who has already been through enough, completely distressed which is massively irresponsible of the staff involved...
