My partner and I stayed here for three days in November 2012, in one of their woodland cabins. I have family who have stayed here previously so I was familiar with the accommodation and knew it to be of a high standard. The cabins are beautiful, well decorated and have a fantastic wood fire in the center which was great to curl up next to in the evenings. The cabins themselves are 5 minutes walk from the shoreline of Loch Tay, and depending on which cabin you get they have good views towards the loch or towards Ben Lawers. The leather couches are very comfortable, and the kitchen is sufficient for two people but you will likely need more utensils and larger pots / pans for more than two. The electric shower is excellent.
I have two main complaints about the cabins, however. Firstly, the bedroom comes equipped with twin bed frames that have very uncomfortable mattresses. Pillows are provided, but duvets and linen is not. It seemed preferable to sleep on the couches to the beds, the mattresses were that bad. Secondly, electricity is not included with the rental of the cabin and the rates are extortionate, and policed by a highly irritating electricity metering system. In the three days we stayed in the cabin we left the electric heating off and used the shower sparingly (perhaps 30 minutes total over the three days). All the lights are energy saving bulbs, and yet we required £10 of electricity cards to get through the three days. When the meter drops to £1 of credit left, it beeps repeatedly until you feed it, even at 3am in the morning, we discovered.
We had been pre-warned that we would require additional wood for the fire and it would be cheaper to buy it off-site, which we did. You will also need to bring your own accessories for washing dishes, as we discovered none were provided.
The staff were not particularly friendly whenever we interacted with them. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but advise you to be wary of all the incidental expenses that were not drawn to our attention...
Read moreMy wife and I found ourselves in the Scottish Highlands with a few days to explore before the wedding of a family friend. We found Loch Tay Highland Lodges & Glamping Park via Google search and decided to give their reasonably priced and rustic accommodations a visit during the few days before the wedding. As promised, the site offered clean yet rustic cabins and fantastic views of the surrounding Munro's and Loch Tay. We travelled from America and were unable to pack many of the camping necessities, i.e. sleeping bags and towels, which the front office staff were happy to provide for a small fee. Common areas and shared bathroom spaces were acceptably clean for a space that caters to outdoorsy folk. Most notably, the shower water temperature was super hot and was welcome after a wet/cold hike up nearby Ben Lawes. Potable water was available from spigots across the site. Our cabin was up the hill, leaving a short walk down to the Loch-side for dinner and drinks at the Boathouse Kitchen and Bar. The dining was great, but requires a reservation on weekend nights as it's one of a few options near Killin that offers true waterfront dining. Staff was friendly and helpful and very apologetic when we were unable to seat us due to prior reservations. We also enjoyed the 2mi hiking loop owned by the park, accessible directly across the road from the camp entrance. After a long drive from Edinburgh, we were ready to stretch our legs, gain a little altitude, and take in late afternoon Loch views from the short loop. With lots of stops to check out local flora and fauna and to take in the views, we completed the loop in about 1h of slow walking. Overall, we had a fantastic time at the LTHLGP and will certainly stay again if we ever find ourselves on...
