I recently visited Lucknam Park Spa, and overall, it was a really lovely and relaxing experience, though there are a few areas where it could be improved.
Getting There & First Impressions
The directions were very straightforward and easy to follow, which made the journey stress-free. Parking was also simple and convenient, with plenty of spaces available. As you arrive, the grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and very well maintained, which sets a calming tone right from the start.
Reception & Changing Facilities
Finding my way into the spa was easy, and the bar area near the entrance is gorgeous — very welcoming and stylish. The staff were warm and friendly, and check-in was quick and simple. I was given a robe and headed straight to the changing rooms.
The changing rooms were lovely — clean, modern, and spacious. The automated lockers are a big plus since you don’t need a fob, key, or code; it’s all hassle-free.
Spa Facilities
The spa itself is contained within one main area. It isn’t huge, but it’s thoughtfully designed and quite relaxing. The highlight for me was definitely the hydrotherapy pool, which extends into the garden area — a perfect spot to unwind. I can imagine it’s even better on a warm, sunny day, but even on a cooler day, it was really enjoyable.
Inside, there are several thermal facilities:
Japanese steam room Herbal steam room Infrared steam room Traditional sauna Infrared sauna Ice shower/plunge (this wasn’t working during my visit)
While the facilities are clean and functional, the spa itself does feel a little outdated and not quite “luxury” level compared to other five-star spas. That said, there was someone regularly maintaining the space, clearing cups, and keeping everything tidy, which was appreciated.
Atmosphere & Vibe
One of the best things about my visit was how peaceful and calm it felt. The spa wasn’t busy at all — maybe around 10 people total — which made it perfect for a low-key, relaxing escape.
Massage & Treatments
I had a back massage during my visit, and it was excellent. My therapist was friendly, welcoming, and very skilled, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Overall Thoughts
Pros:
Easy to find, stress-free parking Beautiful, tranquil grounds Lovely bar area and welcoming reception Spacious, clean changing rooms with automated lockers Hydrotherapy pool and garden area are definite highlights Wide range of steam rooms and saunas Friendly staff and excellent massage
Cons:
Spa facilities are a little dated Doesn’t quite feel five-star luxury compared to others Ice plunge/shower wasn’t working
Final Verdict
I’d give Lucknam Park Spa a solid 7/10. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a calm, low-key spa day with nice facilities and a peaceful atmosphere. The hydrotherapy pool and garden area are the real stars here.
However, if you’re looking for the ultimate luxury spa experience, South Lodge Spa in Horsham still holds the top spot for me in terms of cleanliness, modern facilities, and overall ambience.
That said, Lucknam Park Spa is definitely worth checking out — especially if you enjoy a tranquil setting and want somewhere relaxing...
Read moreI had read many wonderful reviews on here, and had worked for a big Firm in London too, who used Lucknam Park for Senior Manager Conferences, so I was very excited for two nights away.||Good things about Lucknam Park are the staff (especially James for his endless enthusiasm & Charlotte who served us at dinner in Restaurant Hywel Jones, and knows her cheese trolley!) ||The Spa is lovely - very clean and well kept, with great range of facilities. |We went just after half term and so the pool, steam room and sauna were more or less empty. Bliss! As an aside they sell swimming trunks which is handy (though they mistakenly charged us for two pairs on check out, instead of one!)| |Some areas of the property need upgrading though - some some dirty carpet tiles on the stairs, and some rather worn down chairs in the lounges. To be really picky the Spa (although fab as mentioned above) needs fruit water / fresh water available in the ladies changing room and some toiletries wouldn't go amiss....even deoderant and hair spray.........like all top spas now offer their guests.||Though we had to wait for 35 minutes once checked in just to get coffee and a sandwich, James was very welcoming when he did arrive and again, he is an asset to the place. ||We ate at Hywel Jones on the second night - good food as expected, but the restaurant itself also looks tired and dated. ||Worryingly - I had specified on a couple of separate occasions (upon on check in, and to the waiting staff as we sat down) that I didn't eat shellfish. Lo and behold, my main course arrived looking very pretty with guess what.... yes, a dollop of shellfish mousse sat brazenly on the side of my plate. |No sooner had I taken my first forkful of fish, was the plate then was whisked away, followed by a handful of apologies throughout the evening. My friend finished his main course by the time my replacement mains arrived, which was awkward. ||Shame and actually unacceptable for such a grown up restaurant as I'm sure you will agree. Eateries really must be more careful with allergies. ||We mentioned upon check out, when asked how our stay was (the nice young man checking us out had no knowledge of this) but he then offered a 10% reduction off the final bill. It was a token gesture and although we did appreciate it, our evening was marred by the poor (and potentially dangerous) kitchen comms. ||On reflection, I wouldn't visit LP again. We felt the prices didn't really reflect the two night experience, and if you are thinking of going, do be mindful of any allergies you have, mindful of autumnal weather + cold bedrooms, and mindful that service...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here for three nights to celebrate their birthday, and it was a fantastic and luxurious experience in the countryside. This is probably as good as it gets when it comes to luxury countryside properties.
The green space is massive, open, and beautiful. We were lucky enough to catch the sunset, which was stunning. We watched the sunsets on the seats provided. We also enjoyed the tennis court, mini-golf, and outdoor gym. There are even bikes available at the property that we used to ride and wander around.
One thing that really stood out was that I never saw a single bill during our stay. Everything was charged to the room at both restaurants and the spa, or when ordering coffee, tea, or cake. It felt like a nice touch and I really appreciated not having to look at bills during my stay.
The afternoon tea was great, and their homemade scones were delicious! The hotel staff are top-notch, polite, and attentive everywhere—from the spa, check-in desk, to the restaurants. We didn't experience a single instance where service was not excellent. You could see that everyone was working hard.
Breakfast was particularly great, with generous portion sizes and an à la carte menu. I really appreciated not having a buffet, and it was fantastic that you could order anything from the menu. The Michelin-starred Hywel Jones restaurant masters the art of fine dining, and the tasting menu is a must-try.
The spa was amazing, with an indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool offering a tranquil space to relax with views of the arboretum. We tried a massage there, and it did not disappoint. It ended with a post-treatment relaxation room.
We stayed in the junior suite, which was massive. I'm usually not a fan of old interiors, but the room was very comfortable and looked renovated. We really appreciated the in-house champagne and fruits on arrival, which added a nice touch. The fan was also appreciated. The housekeeping was top-notch, and our room was serviced twice a day.
Before check-out, we topped off our experience with a horse ride visit. It was our first time riding horses, and it was a wonderful experience. We were given appropriate and adequate training, making it a lovely addition to our stay.
Overall, this property exceeded our expectations in every way, and we highly recommend it for an unforgettable countryside getaway.
