If you were to imagine the perfect farmhouse B&B then you would be hard pushed to come up with better than Mallard Grange. A long weekend there and it was one of the very best B&B experiences I have had over many years of travelling. Maggie is simply a perfect host- friendly, considerate and engaging. If you want genuine Yorkshire warmth and welcome, this is absolutely the place to stay!

The care and attention to detail extends through the accommodation. I was given the 'Fox' room which is in a beautiful outbuilding directly opposite the main farmhouse. Original stonework buildings beautifully kept, the rooms are a very generous size with really smart furnishings and decor that compliment the countryside colours outdoors. The bed was tremendous too, huge and extremely comfortable. Ensuite bathroom was also very smart with a superb shower. Fresh milk, handmade shortbread and anything you could need all on hand.

It would be impossible to review Mallard Grange and not specifically mention breakfast. Served in a beautiful dining room in the farmhouse, the main event of the farmers breakfast is freshly cooked and all local produce where Maggie knows the farmers and sometimes even the actual cows! There are plenty of hot options but I do really recommend the main breakfast as a perfect example of a proper, superbly done affair. On top of the cooked offerings there are lots of cereal and fruit choices and a wonderful array of local jams and condiments in the centre of the table for with some toast.

The area is great too. Fountains Abbey on the doorstep (literally) is an obvious must-see in the area, but there are numerous gardens, stately homes and wonderful market towns to visit, the fells and forests to walk through, along with Ripon, Harrogate and York all very close by. So many wonderful restaurants nearby too - the spectacular Grantley Hall has several (just a mile away) but all over this part of the county you are spoilt for choice. A hot tip from me - Hansom in Beadale (another beautiful marker town) is superb and surely heading for the upper reaches of the Michelin list.

So if you want to visit this beautiful part of Yorkshire, and you really should, then please do stay here to get the embodiment of what rural northern England is about. Great hospitality, warmth and care along with a pride in what you do. Maggie and all those involved have created something very special at...

What can I say? What an amazing place! It feels welcoming as soon as you arrive, and when you leave, it's like you are part of the family. Maggie is a warm host who's attention to detail is fantastic. Maggie showed us to the garden room which had a beautiful garden view along with a view of Doris the Maggie horse. The rooms huge with a wardrobe with about 10 hangers and a long mirror on the inside door. The bathroom is a big bathroom with views of the farm. Maggie has a file with information on the farm, recommended restaurants and things to see and do. I really enjoyed reading the history on the ownership of the farm dating back to 1600. The bed is very comfortable and is huge. The breakfast was fantastic. We stayed for 3 nights so tried 3 different breakfasts. The full English is all locally sourced, the pancakes are freshly made which I had with lemon curry and finished with dippy egg and soldiers. There is also a choice of cereals, yohurt and fruit. Maggie sat with us after breakfast was served which was lovely. The farm has a beautiful field of Tulips which you can purchase along with homemade lemon curd, honey and jam. It is a 30 minute walk to the deer park and from there around 30 minutes to fountain Abbey. York is 50 minutes drive from the farm. Whitby and Robin hoods Bay are 1hr 30 min drive. Harrogate has some lovely restaurants which is a 30 minute drive, we had an Indian and a Greek here. We drove to Ripon for an Italian. We cannot wait to come back as there is still so much to see and do. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in...

We have just stayed 2 nights in the nestbox at mallard grange. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t super kind to us however it didn’t spoil our time, our trip was still a perfect home from home, cosy and comfortable stay. Maggie is a wonderful, bubbly funny natural hostess and greeted us on arrival explaining all we needed to know for our short but sweet stay. It was really nice to meet her after exchanging emails. Every little detail has been thought about, loads of dvds, games, hot water bottles/blankets and all things needed for the kitchen area. The bed/bedding was extremely comfortable. And with Maggies warm welcome and kindness nothing would have been too much trouble if we had needed her during our stay. The shortbread on arrival was delicious too and a really lovely touch was the personalised note with information and contact details to welcome us. The Location of Mallard Grange is perfect, fountains abbey on the doorstep (definitely recommend even with children, great play park and extensive grounds to walk around and explore) and Brimham Rocks, cold stones cut, stump cross caverns, Ripon, Harrogate and Pately Bridge all within 20 minutes or so driving. Loads to explore. It’s a really great part of Yorkshire. Thank you so much for a busy but restful few days! X Ps. Thank you for the...

The imperfections are quite simply, perfect! We stayed 3 wonderful nights at Mallard Grange. This is an authentic working farm and it was a joy for us to learn about the farm from our host, Maggie during our post-breakfast chats. Maggie is an exceptional host and everyone we met was very welcoming. Our room was lovely. Beautiful linen, a very comfortable bed and a very quiet setting, resulted in a great night's sleep. We tried out different items on the breakfast menu and everything was delicious. We loved the communal table and chatting with other guests in the morning. The location is perfect for travelling around, Fountain Abbey is across the field and Ripon is just down the road, with a great choice of restaurants. Genuine, warm Yorkshire hospitality.
