Stayed here many times, loved it, and always worthy of a 5* review. However, this visit was to be on arrival time rather than our usual mid-afternoon arrival. Usual CAMC arrival time is midday. I was in the area at 11am, so pulled over to try and check earliest arrival time for this site. My booking confirmation email had no mention of arrival times, so I checked my booking on the CAMC booking app. No details, but a link to the booking terms and conditions. This stated all arrival times at midday, apart from a small number of sites with varying times due to access issues.

At midday we drove up to the site only to find three units already in the new arrivals area, and no sign of any wardens. The office was closed, and a sign stated it did not open until 1pm. As we waited, more and more units arrived, completely blocking access into and out of the site. Motorhomes and caravans were trying to leave the site, but could not pass the new arrivals blocking the access.

Eventually at 12.30 the staff opened reception and started trying to sort this complete mess out. A short time later, units had backed up out of the site, onto the public single track road, blocking access for the local hotel and static caravan site, and local residents. It wasn’t long before many disgruntled residents started beeping car horns. Between midday and 1pm we counted over 40 units coming on to the site.

Upon complaining to the wardens about this chaotic situation we were told we should have checked the website for the new arrival times. Maybe, but we did try. And the answers were simply midday unless told otherwise. Nothing upon booking or confirmation.

This whole problem is caused because the last few hundred metres of approach are on a narrow, steep road, with limited visibility. It makes absolute sense to try and ensure all leavers have left, before arrivals come the other way. Most sites ask leavers to leave before midday, and new arrivals to arrive after midday. If an hour or so is needed to assist with traffic management then that’s fine, and I’m sure most club members would be understanding.

But why change the arrival time??? Over 40 units arrived before 1pm, probably unaware of the unusual arrival time, like ourselves. Simply advise all new arrivals that departure time is 11am. The problem can be so...

Been to this site the exact same time last year when it snowed as a stop over heading up to Scotland for the new Year. Should have arrived at Methopfell between 1pm & 3pm, however there was a accident & long delay on the M6 which pushed us back one & half hours.....therefore we did not arrive until 4.45pm and been travelling for 5 hours and were tired. We walked into the reception to be met by a lady warden to check in...the lady with short hair & glasses behind the counter.

She was somewhat not very welcoming and appeared to look annoyed with everyone. We found her a trifle rude and not the warm welcome we experienced the year before. She advised that we needed to return back to the office before 5pm with the pitch number for a toulet block key because she was shutting down....the time checking in was 4.46pm so it did not leave us long. My wife was a bit annoyed back and advised if that's the case we will use our own facilities.....warden replyed.." that's great you will not need to come back" around 10 minutes later all the yellow blinds were rolled down and the office was shut. Our motorhome is 8.75 meters long and we had called the site three/ four weeks prior to book in which normally is the club rules...

Most Wardens will try to reserve a larger or longer pitch for a larger motorhome only due to the size. After paying £30.70 for the night...we asked if we were allocated a pitch as normal....she replyed no not really I have only just noticed the size.......but you can follow the map and there is only a few left over pitches down the bottom. Unfortunately we arrived in pitch darkness and was towing a car on an A frame with a total lenght of 46 feet long......to anyone staying at Methop will realise it is a wonderful site but very hilly with diffent levels and tight turns and can be difficult to manuver such a long outfit.

Would I stay again.....definitely yes " Wonderful peaceful site"....only next time we hope to be welcomed by a different more friendly and nicer warden when we arrive.

Date of arrival 27th...

Mixed reviews and posting as we sit here on our final night of three.

The site is well kept and have to say the washing facilities are some of the best I have experienced.

It is a fell site and therefore there are very few flat pitches. This is not advertised prior to arrival that you need levelling chocks. The wash facilities, although great, you have to carry a key everywhere which is quite antiquated.

Biggest issue though (and I think we were unlucky) is the noise of young teenagers at the park area. We are a family with two young children so therefore adult only sites are not an option. We were only given the option of pitches near the park upon arrival and not sure if this is because we have children. There is no warden presence in the evening and it seems as though some parents are happy to have their children run around behind caravans shouting and screaming until 9.30pm. Not the sites fault directly, it is the parents, but the site could do things such as the park area shuts at 8pm.

Disappointing and therefore unlikely to return after this...

Feels like a tranquil park when you first get here, great reception from staff when we booked in, and it even gets better, excellent facilities, spacious pitches, large toilet 🚻 block and an information room with everything you would need to know. Also you have views looking out over the bay to Arnside, lovely 😍. Five months on and it's the first run out of the season can't beat it. Friday morning we had six inches of snow covering the car the campsite said there was no snow up there so off we go and twenty minutes down the road to the lockup and no snow 🌨 on the caravan, how strange is this weather and the Met Office saying that you should not travel, don't think they know what day it is. So obviously we had a lovely stay at our favourite campsite and the best thing it's only an hour away so good.

Despite it being August and in the middle of the school holidays there were plenty of vacant spaces when we visited. Site staff were really friendly and welcoming. The site looked wonderful. They suggested that we look at two vacant pitches in an area for smaller vans which was perfect for us, quiet, private and convenient to the toilet block and office. There is a nice dog walk on site and plenty of walks off site including nearby Grange-over-Sands. It’s about 3 miles away and took us just over an hour in very hot weather. It’s an ideal location for touring the South Lakes and Morecambe Bay. Update after a return visit November is that there is a food van on site selling pasties and chips etc and pizzas depending on the evening. We tried it and it was very nice.

Very quiet site, very clean, beautiful scenery and some great walks, kids playground if needed. Wardens are excellent, couldn't help enough, when our Thule wind out awning decided to explode on the elbow bracket, at 4.30 in the morning, thought a branch had fallen on the roof, no wind or rain caused it, could not get an engineer to come out and take it off, i had the tools but no ladder, Warden who was an ex Asda Manager had the ladder and used my tools to take it down, even though i interupted the jobs he was doing. Thank you.
