Novice camping trip with my 5 year old and the location was amazing! (Electric camping pitch no.22) Pros:- 1. Easy to find location, with signposted parking spaces and Reception for new arrivals to check in 2. Lots of communication from the campsite management beforehand with numerous recommendations of things to do. 3. Big map of the campsite by reception with a notice board of camping t&cs, wifi and local events 4. Water station, toilets, showers, washing up section within a short walk from most tent locations. 5. Parking for camping pitches mainly restricted to the reception car parking to avoid unnecessary car noise or travel through the site and more space around your pitch 6. Fire pits to rent for free with a refundable £5 deposit, kindling and wood sold in the shop 7. Electric bike hire with a list of approx 9 local paths to follow all around the campsite 8. 2x Showers and 3x toilets per gender block. Clean and basic 9. Very family friendly with under cover area for kids to play and eat picnics/dinner. 10. Pitches were spacious with plenty of spare open grass space for kids to play 11. Several washing machines, fridges and washing up stations to use for free 12. Guests incredibly respectful and didn’t hear a pin drop after 10.30pm 13. Small shop onsite with fresh pastries, bread and coffees on a morning and all necessities if needed inc fire pits, wood and kindling to rent/buy 14. Food truck onsite open on a Saturday for oven roasted pizzas, made to order, and breakfast sandwiches on a Sunday morning. The two guys that run it are incredibly friendly and accommodating 15. Cost was good value for money. 16. Would recommend going to South Lakes Safari Zoo, taking a boat trip on Windermere and wild swimming and kayaking in Windermere (Stoked water sports) Things to be aware of:- 1. Reception and camp shop only open 8-10am or 3-8pm during the day (does not sell alcohol) 2. No local pubs or restaurants within short walking distance that we came across but plenty a short drive away 3. Wifi is only strong in communal area (near reception) and the pitches close to it 4. No driving on the campsite between 8pm-7.30am (apart from two later arrivals on the Friday, people adhered to this) 5. Parking for camping pitches mainly restricted to the reception car parking which meant the car had to be fully unloaded or plenty of trips back and forth (for a small tent wasn’t ideal) 6. No seating or picnic benches allocated to a pitch 7. Toilets operated what seemed like a sewage disposal tank which you could smell when you flushed the toilet 8. Small sanitary bins were located on the walls about head height when sat down and the cubicles were small (not a pleasant smell) 9. Open block of toilets directly next to the open cubicled showers meaning you could hear people in the toilets whilst showering. 10. Water pressure dropped in showers when toilets, sinks or washing up stations outside were being used 11. No lights on during the evening so remember to take a flash light or head torch 12. Football table in the outside covered area for kids to play with, with no ball to use. Instead the table had lots of rocks thrown in it so wasn’t useable 14. Stoney path leading up to the campsite and pitches not ideal for low cars. Take a steady pace. All in all, a good trip and would recommend as somewhere standard to camp and stay for the weekend whilst in the Lakes

After a 17 nights' trip all around England and Wales I can conclude that Moss Howe is the best campsite we stayed in! The staff were attentive, happy to help, experienced. I always felt like I can get help if I need it and someone is in control of the place. The macro design of this place is so smart and convenient. Spacious pitches that are easily marked and at the same time all of the pitches were close to the amenities. We always had enough showers and toilets for the amount of visitors, and they were cleaned thoroughly everyday. The families with children were assigned one area of the campsite, and the more quiet couples were assigned a different area. So it is both children-friendly, and adults only friendly. I would have felt very safe to bring my dog there with me if I had one (my dog passed away recently 😔). Just make sure the dog doesn't go to eat some chickens or get into trouble with some wild animals without you knowing. They have a very helpful small grocery shop that has exactly the things you need in the campsite like washing machine capsules, eggs, alcohol drinks and more (the prices are fair although I wouldn't do the big buy of groceries there - this is not the idea). They have washing machine on-site. On some days they have a great pizza evening on-site. If it rains you can a rain sheltered area to prepare food or just sit and drink a beer. One important thing! They have a curfew to bring cars to the tent pitches meaning that you cannot drive late at night from and to your pitch because it can wake other visitors up. Make sure you park your car at your pitch for the night before the curfew. The view of the valley was amazing, and feeling like you sleep in nature is outstanding!

Beautiful and quiet place to stay. We had a 18-foot yurt (width not height as I sadly got wrong). Had everything you need to live. A bed, stove, oven (wood-fuelled) and solar-powered lights. We went at the end of September so it got a bit cold on some nights/mornings. To keep warm, wear layers, duvet and blanket they have is quite thick (11.5 tog) and a log-burner with an oven on top. It rained one night and hitting the see-through plastic on the ceiling was a bit disturbing for the light sleepers. However, on a clear night, stargazing was beautiful as it meant that we can keep warm in bed whilst looking out at the starry night. Showers, toilets and wash-up sink were always cleaned and well-maintained by staff. There's a pub just two miles down the road (10 minute cycle). We went there one night and apart from one or two steep hills, it was quite enjoyable especially after a couple of pints! This is self-catering. Nearest store is around 25 minutes drive south but the reception does have some items for sale that might be needed during your stay such as sugar, milk and eggs. Reception is open 8am until 7pm but the woman who runs the operation lives nextdoor, overlooking the yurts and campsite. Mu girlfriend loved the experience for her birthday week. 10 out of 10. Would stay here again.

Liked: Lovely location. We went for a great walk up whitbarrow scar and enjoyed a meal in The Derby Arms. The campsite itself felt spacious and pitches were a good size and we were able to park the car at our pitch. Cars are not allowed to move round site after 8pm, which was nice and it kept the site feeling peaceful. If you are returning to site after this time there is a car parking area by the entrance. The washing up facilities are under cover and the water is piping hot. The toilets and showers were nice, modern and clean, The shower heads are fixed and do tend to spray. There are two hooks in the shower so take a couple of large bags with you and hang all your belongings up, including shoes. Anything on the floor will get drenched. Not a lot of room to get dressed, especially when you are trying to avoid the wet walls and floor so you might want an extra towel to stand on, or just get one if those large towel robes and some flip flops or similar and then get dressed back at your tent. It is not a problem, it is just nice to know this, so you can be prepared. The showers are on a sensor switch and you may have to press it half way through so take note where it is before you have shampoo on your head. We did not need to use the laundry facilities. There was also a nice covered communal area with picnic benches and lighting. There is a little on site shop that opens for a couple of hours in the evening/ tea time I think. You can order fresh croissants ready for the next morning, which we did and they were lovely. We also got some lovely jam from the shop. We did find out the shop does not stock rock pegs. I have never pitched up on such hard ground before. The people we went with on the next pitch were the same. Luckily they had rock pegs and we managed to share them out between the two of us to get our tents up. The actual pitch was nice and it was not uncomfortable at all, just bring rock pegs and a mallet. I don’t know if it was just the side of the site we were on or if all pitches were like that. If the shop had rock pegs to sell or loan that would have been excellent. They have fire pits, just help your self. Being able to have a fire when camping really adds to the experience. The site was very peaceful at night . It also had free WiFi . We will definitely be back to this site, and recommend it.

Disliked: Excellent site, nothing we disliked, but the shop could stock a couple of camping essentials like rock pegs, as they were definitely needed for our pitch and our neighbours. Not really a negative though, as we should have come prepared for all...
