I greatly appreciated the lodge's location, which was truly its standout feature. The beautiful, tranquil forest setting provided a wonderful sense of privacy and brought a sence of calmness when watching the fog wash over the fields.
However, there were several aspects of the experience that fell short of expectations, particularly considering the premium price point.
One notable disturbance was the fireworks set off by nearby lodges between 3-5 AM, which created a jarring experience in the middle of the night.
While the hot tub was a welcome amenity, inconsistent chemical balance made it uncomfortable to use on some nights. The first night was just unusable, it caused the eyes to water. Second night was much better after removing the cover for an hour prior but the third revered back to the strong, over powering chlorine bath.
The sauna, though present, had some maintenance issues that affected its functionality, including a door that could not close completely. Meaning the temperature couldn't reach past 50°, a reading from the only nonsmashed glass thermometer in the sauna. Something I'm glad I spotted before sitting down.
Additionally, the provided robes showed signs of wear that impacted their comfort and fit.
The complimentary amenities, while thoughtful, seemed somewhat limited given the overall cost of the stay. The complimentry four free coffee pods and two 10ml body wash bottles felt a little. Cheap. Especially for a price of over £1000.
Furthermore, the rules and procedures regarding amenity usage, especially the "no use of the Hot Tub between 6am and 11pm", while understandable from a management perspective, occasionally felt restrictive and contributed to a somewhat anxious atmosphere.
Given the price point, I found myself comparing this experience to other similarly priced accommodations I've enjoyed, such as Lodore Cabins, Chewton Glen, or Ramsden Treehouses.
These alternatives offered the exact same amenities along with additional features like on-site restaurants, A spa ect, which provided better overall...
Read moreAfter seeing the great reviews we had high hopes for our stay. We found ourselves a little disappointed; the furniture was stained and couch cushions were damaged, walls marked all over (including a large dead insect squashed on to the ceiling in the master bedroom), and skirting boards had lots of spill stains on them.
The overall cleanliness was below expectation (we found hairs in the linens and the bathroom), and we didn't find the facilities particularly well equipped. One of our group had to shower in cold water every day, as the hot water would run out (and even when there was hot water, the pressure is very low so the showers were not enjoyable); the kitchen wasn't well stocked with what you'd expect; i.e. there were less than 8 of some items of crockery (despite being an 8-bed house), the fridge was cracked inside, which caused water to gather, the toaster only worked on one side, and there were not champagne flutes.
At the end of the stay, you have to strip the beds yourself and gather the linens, which is surprising on such a high price point accomodation.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay, but it fell short on our expectations of luxury, and felt very overpriced for what it was. We would recommend to management to deep clean the properties, and update the inventory of the homes to ensure guests have a great experience, as the surrounding area is so beautiful and architecturally the properties have...
Read moreAesthetically beautiful, practically poorly designed! Not worth it for £300 a night! ||I had been looking for something special online for months. Although Northumberland was a 6 hour journey for us from London, when I came across Newlands Lodges, I thought I had found the perfect place for a romantic celebration. ||We had sleepless nights all 3 nights! It's one thing to have natural light streaming in during the day and another to not have black-out blinds for the night. With full length uncovered glass panels everywhere, we were wide awake from 4.00am onwards! We put up blankets on both sides of the 4-poster bed but unfortunately that did very little to keep light out. Also, there was no door between the bedroom and living area, light streamed into the bedroom from that side too. ||We had many plans to get out during the day and enjoy visiting Durham castle and the beach. However, as we were shattered from the lack of sleep, we ended up cancelling all those plans. We also went to the shops to buy eye masks to help sleep better. But because neither of us have ever worn them before, we found them uncomfortable and resorted to what little sleep we could get without them. ||And to top it all, management doesn't seem bothered by my email to them with this feedback (in fact, an email with a much kinder tone). Hence the harsher tone in the review here! ||DO NOT BOOK THIS and...
