We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Old Great Marlborough House Abergavenny. The house is warm and welcoming, full of character and each room is comfortably furnished with many lovely and interesting details. Set among beautiful countryside the gardens are well kept and there are many spots to sit and catch the sun as the day goes on. We felt close to nature and enjoyed visits from a pheasant and watching the rabbits. It is wonderful to hear so much bird song. There is a sports room and this was greatly enjoyed by the children, they had plenty of space and numerous activities to enjoy, we, felt that every detail of a stay with children had been considered. The children loved the house and grounds and called it ‘the mansion’. Outside there is a covered bar b que area with a chiminea which was very handy in the Welsh weather. We soon got the hang of the log fired hot tub which was great fun. The house is exceptionally well equipped, it was easy to cater for 19 in the farmhouse style kitchen and we made a lot of use of the kitchen equipment. The 4 oven Aga was a boon, some of our party were able to bake their own sour dough and it was easy for famillies to share the large fridges. We took advantage of the Wild by Nature high quality butcher service, which together with the welcome pack made things easy on our arrival. The house is also very dog friendly and our dog quickly found a nook in the kitchen for his den/bed.. The house has many comfortable sociable seating areas and it is possible for guests to get away from each other if they wish! A truly wonderful place to stay and we’d stay again in a heart beat Rebecca...
Read moreIncredibly superb holiday destination that we experienced with 21 family members. The cooking equipment was less than perfect but we got by. But that would be the most negative point as the bedrooms and plentiful ensuites were absolutely stunning (along with the welsh valley views). The dining room only sat 16 of us but we ate most of our midday and evening meals on the shielded outdoor seating area sometimes utilising the stone-built barbecue! Meanwhile the dining room would serve for boardgame entertainment and the livingroom's 4K 60Hz tv would provide excellent film/tv services and as I brought my gaming pc it was quite the centre of attention for the 9 kids and a few of the adults. The swimming pool worked seamlessly and some of us spent far too much time swimming without a worry in the world. An outdoor, heated hot-tub provided a challenge for those in the family who are scouts as most of the provided wood was too damp to start a fire, thankfully as the 10 days progressed the hot-tub became easier to initiate and was enjoyed by almost all 21 despite it only sitting maybe 4 comfortably. The tennis court and gardens were thoroughly traversed as the kids went on walks, played tennis or used the court for wiggle-bike racing! The basement games room was rather neglected but provided a space for individuals to escape from the madness of the family. The house is a stones throw from castles, a brewery, a distillery, a guided coal mine museum, laser tag, a butterfly house, a hedge maze and so much more. Really was one of the best destinations for an extended or large...
Read moreLocated away from the road up a gravelled Drive The house is set in its own self contained grounds with rural views which are well landscaped and well kept. There are lots of different areas to sit out each with its unique features and aspect. The outdoor dining area is covered and has 4 picnic benches seating 24. We took a group of 20 adults ages ranging from 24 to 82 years and two toddlers. There is sufficient bedroom capacity to sleep all the adults As long as 2 are happy with a bunk bedded room. But then there is also another room with a double sofa bed downstairs and a small double and a single in low loft area most suitable for teenagers. The covered pool area was superb and well used by us for small group water volley ball and toddler swimming lessons. The kitchen was large and well equipped and 10 could sit round the breakfast table. 2 dishwashers and two fridge freezers sufficed for our needs. The lounge has enough comfortable chairs for the whole group and is large enough to not feel cramped. We fitted 20 around the dining table in the dining room comfortably plus 2 high chairs. Toilet and showers were sufficient for our needs and clean and well maintained. tennis court well used by us with a man made surface and in good condition. Abundant fruit trees. Pool and table football in the cellar. To sum up a lovely house in a great location furnished tastefully and well equipped throughout. With friendly owners on the end of the phone and a cleaning team to see you in and out....
