I’ve waited a few days before compiling this review as I wanted to think about what to say.||I booked 2 nights in the cider room for my wife’s 60th birthday. On arrival, every staff member was great. All very helpful, smiling and couldn’t do enough for you. As we were checking in, one of the guys went to our room and lit the fire in the log burner. We were shown to our room and it was everything I could have wished for. The furnishings were marvellous and the huge bed is probably one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. It was very bohemian and right up my wife’s street. The kitchen had made a small complimentary fruit cake as a birthday greeting which was a nice touch. The toiletries were amazing and the fragrances were sublime. Very refreshing.||We had a table booked for an evening meal and as we had our two large dogs with us, the staff had given us the table in the corner of the cart shed and we had loads of room for them both to spread out and relax. The meal was quite pleasant and well cooked and presented. There is only one choice of zero percent beer and that was a Peroni. I’m not a lager drinker at the best of times but this is not a great substitute and like the majority of zero lagers just tastes artificial. There is a 0.5% cider called Isaac that is produced on a cider orchard in Beominster only a few miles away. This I feel would complement the choice of drinks and further strengthens the local supplier ethos of The Outbuildings. They have a text to tipple service that was very useful. Basically, a room service you can just text to with your desires. We liked this. As we had both of our large dogs in tow, it was great to have somewhere to be able to have a good walk and exercise. It’s a field, just to the rear and side of the accommodation.||Now to the negatives. These are just our observations, but have been echoed in other good reviews. Bathrobes are provided and are of good quality and a decent size. You can actually wrap them round yourself without any embarrassing splits. What would have been nice to finish this off, would be a pair of complimentary slippers. A decent quality pair on Amazon price up at £2.40. Given the ambiance and the high end price bracket of this type of accommodation, I can’t believe this is going to ruin the bottom line of the company profits. Another niggle was the breakfast. We booked a package for two nights which with our evening meal was only just short of £1k. To then find out at checkout that you’ve been charged for coffee and other supplementary items because it’s an either/or system with an £18.00 allowance was extremely disappointing. This is the sort of hidden charge you’d expect to find in a Premier Inn, or Travelodge. Not a high end establishment that Outbuildings pertains to be. Personally I’d like any charges for such things to be built into the initial booking. I’m fairly sure that if you’re paying £960 for two nights, you’re not going to be too bothered by a few more quid for the items I’ve mentioned. You will also see the phrase “service charge” plastered all over your bill. Everything seems to have it attached, but in fairness, the staff are so great, if this genuinely goes to them, I have no issues with that. On checkout, it is worth giving your bill a good check prior to final payment. I’d booked a spa treatment for my wife at £115. I didn’t check the bill before leaving and only found out the following day that I’d been charged twice for this treatment. A not insignificant amount. When a called them, this was rectified immediately and a refund processed. I was on the verge of throwing the paperwork in the bin when I discovered this, so just worth a check.||To sum up, this was a stay that we both thoroughly enjoyed and I feel the only people letting the side down are the “bean counters” in the background. Apply the expectations of such a venue and don’t lower it to the £2.00 for an extra slice of...
Read moreTo all the team at Outbuildings – what can I say, and where do I even start?!| |I’m quite frankly still in mourning after leaving Outbuildings and already plotting my next excuse to return! Working in hospitality and events, I’ve been fortunate enough to stay and work in some truly lovely hotels and venues - but I can honestly say that Outbuildings has left a lasting impression and etched itself onto my heart.| |It’s the perfect blend of comfort, style, relaxation, delicious food, and undeniable charm. This luxury “farm’otel” is tucked away just five minutes from Bridport - a lovely town full of independent coffee shops and eateries, a buzzy market, and the peaceful River Asker.| |As a couple enjoying a rare weekend getaway, we couldn’t have asked for more. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the rustic farm feel - especially being greeted by the gorgeous Charlie (the farm’s Wire-Haired Pointer) wagging his tail as he strolled past, followed by a personal check-in with Dom. We stayed in The Pressing Room, a stone’s throw from the main courtyard and The Cart Shed (the bar and dining area). The room was stunning!! Thoughtfully designed, with a beautiful stone terrace and manicured garden. My favourite thing, you ask? The enormous copper rolltop bathtub situated at the foot of the bed. HEAVEN! We especially appreciated the little touches: bespoke toiletries (available to buy - I'm obsessed with the lavender and eucalyptus body scrub!), homemade cake, and a relaxed but attentive setup. While we had a number to text if we needed anything, everything was so well thought out, we never had to use it.| |Our first afternoon included Aperol Spritz on their sun-drenched terrace - a perfect spot to sip, read, and listen to the gentle trickle of the water feature. Lunch was delicious, made with seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, with some of their produce from their own kitchen garden, which adds to the charm.| |Dinner in The Cart Shed was another highlight. We dined from the Chef’s Selection Menu, which started with a glass of English Sparkling from Furleigh Estate, an amuse bouche, and three sumptuous courses that did not disappoint.| |The next morning, after a local run (the views are stunning!), we explored Bridport. The Saturday market is a must - bustling and full of character. Be sure to stop at Bayside Bakery stand for their epic brownies (we made the mistake of only buying four - rookie error!). Bridport is lovely to wander through, with boutique shops, great coffee spots, and a peaceful walk along the river.| |Back at Outbuildings, we spent a relaxing afternoon on the terrace with a deck of cards and drinks in the sunshine. Sadly, we didn’t have time to try the Haybarn Cinema or Bubbles in the Woods hot tub, but both looked amazing. The cinema’s pick-and-mix sweet selection alone had us tempted!| |Our final evening was spent enjoying the garden terrace with in-room dining - bliss. The next morning, we enjoyed one last delicious breakfast (yes, we indulged a lot - and rightly so!) before checking out and saying our goodbyes.| |A huge highlight for us was the team. Every single person we encountered was warm, personable, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the farm, the brand, and giving guests a memorable and meaningful experience - in a wonderfully relaxed and unassuming way.| |To Ed, Dom, and the entire team: thank you. Thank you for creating this glorious gem that is Outbuildings. We hope to return soon! xx| |(P.S. Thanks for the recommendation to stop at Symondsbury Estate on our way home - we didn’t have time to climb Colmers Hill, one for next time! But we loved exploring the shops...
Read moreOh where do I start... Outbuilding is not just somewhere to sleep, it's not just accommodation, this is a 5 star experience. Myself and my partner were blown away, instagram & their website do not do this place justice (which I love)
During our stay we were looked after by Karen, who was honestly the best. Karen, Oscar, Rebecca (& the cat who's name has escaped me) were highlights of our trip!
The service provided by this group is outstanding.
We stayed in The Farrows, which was beautiful. Bed & sofa was comfy. Full kitchen, for everything you could possible need (short or long stay) and gorgeous patio area. (we lucked out and got breakfast in the sun) The room was fitted with a wood burner, so was lovely and toasty! For the breakfast, we got the veggie hamper which was delicious.
We used the Hot Tub in the woods. What an experience, to be out there just surrounded by trees and fairy lights. Truly incredible! Would highly recommend booking it as an add on to your trip. We had robes waiting for us in our room & a speaker at the hot tub so we could listen to our music
