We arrived and I had high hopes for the hotel. The member of staff on the desk was very friendly abd helpful. She asked us what time we wanted breakfast and said service finished at 10.45. Sadly everything went downhill from there. Firstly my mums radiator fell off the wall, this was not able to be fixed. The radiator in my room made a terrible noise when it was turned on, so we had to be cold as sleeping with the noise was not going to work. In the morning we went to breakfast at 9.30, over an hour before service finished to find there was no pastries left. This did not leave much choice for the continental breakfast. We asked if more would be brought out, but we're told that they could not make more. My mum said we'll I feel sorry for anyone who is only having the continental breakfast. I then over heard a member of staff reiterate this to another colleague who said to them that if anybody was having just continental to let her know as she could sort something for them. So basically because we were down for a cooked breakfast we couldn't be helped? But we paid for it. Then another member if staff came and blamed it on the night staff not putting out enough pastries. By this point I was just ready to my cooked breakfast. But when it came my order was wrong so I left hungry. When we checked out my mum asked if someone could help her check out and a very rude young lady with long blonde hair said you just put your cards in tbe box, in a tone that was very condescending. She was not polite and I don't think she was right to work in...
Read moreThe staff were very friendly, the bed was very comfy and the location was ideal (only a 10 min bus journey to the centre of York which was excellent), however these were the only good things unfortunately.
Our room smelled very strongly of paint (there were wet paint warnings all around our floor when we arrived) for the duration of the stay, there was no air conditioning or any type of fan which was horrible in this summer heat, the main light in our room didn't work (I didn't report this to the staff as all the other lights worked so we could deal with it), the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work, the room overall was very small, the TV screen was tiny, and the walls were paper thin so could hear every conversation from the room opposite ours, word for word.
Essentially the place is in need of a massive revamp. And all these things stand out more than they would otherwise as we had just arrived from another Premier Inn in the New Forest before arriving at this one and the difference was night and day.
If you're only staying for 1 night and need easy access to the city centre and don't want to pay for parking, I would recommend this place. Though if you want to stay for another other length of time, I would suggest somewhere else until a time that they can get this hotel up to par with others...
Read moreRooms clean bedding too but dated Bathrooms have been upgraded and the staff kept it spotless. On arrival met by Alex a friendly and efficient lady receptionist who told us our allocated room was on ground floor in a quiet part of the Hotel which indeed it was . We had breakfast in the hotel £9-99 and it was cooked to order and was excellent . Can't abide the snobby people who pay under £10 then mumps and moan . For the money paid it was excellent and very good food overseen by a more mature man and the chef too who cooked everything as you specified. We did not travel by car but used the number 2 Park and ride which is situated great for going into York for bus stop is not handy coming out as bus stop before and after are a good walk away and you have to go into the hotel via the grass which is OK on dry days but on wet ones it's not good . To Manager perhaps a tarmac or slab path is needed. Did not use the pub next door as it was pricy with the cheapest course £15 upwards .can't comment on the standard of food Did not seem busy anytime we walked by so perhaps other guests too voted with their feet . Would definitely stay there again as the bus stop is only 50 metres away from...
