Great location for a hostel at the foot of one of the beast hillwalking areas in Scotland. On arrival, it was clear that it is a popular place as the car park was full. Checked in at reception, very helpful lady on the desk telling us the key things we needed to know, including the likelihood of some reasonable weather! Able to purchase a range of drinks, snacks and grocery items al thought we had most of our provisions with us, a couple of extra drinks/snacks helped keep our energy levels up. Plenty of space in the lounge or dining room area. We had taken a Private Rm (No 6) which was well placed with nearby toilet/shower. Very comfortable sleep had by all. Large and well provisioned kitchen down to separate bins to help recycle packaging and tea bags. Lots of storage space. Although we didn't spend much time inside, good base for our weekend and will certainly use again as still have plenty hills to do nearby! (The weather was not great but got our main hillwalking...

We stayed here for a night this week with the kids whilst exploring Skye. Its a proper old school hiking hostel, but I think this is probably the most scenic YHA you could ever stay at. The views are stunning in every direction and it has a lovely outdoor space to sit and look out over the water (we were lucky enough with the weather to allow us to do this). The location is ideal as a base for exploring Skye.

The rooms were basic but the beds were really comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and the dining room was large enough for everyone. It has a nice lounge, although it was a bit on the quiet side for our kids as there was some very tired hikers chilling out and we didn't want to disturb the peace.

The best thing about this hostel (apart from the stunning location) was the staff. They were both incredibly welcoming, really knowledgeable about the area and gave us some great tips on what to do on Skye. They were great hosts and made us...

Three of us stayed there in a four bed dormitory this week. That’s £33 each per night ( would have been £25/person/ night if there had been four of us.) That is pretty good value for a private room with sink and hot and cold water. Showers and toilet just outside the room.||Very comfortable beds and pillows! ||Room was clean.||Clean well- equipped kitchen. Drying room.||What’s not to like at that price?||And John, the Warden, was an excellent host. Welcoming, helpful, good sense of humour.||All of us agreed we’d return there if we needed accommodation in that beautiful area...

I stayed two nights and had a wonderful time, the manager was super nice and helpful, the room was cosy and every bed had its own charger and night light, we even had a sink in the room which was great for brushing your teeth. The shower was great, good water pressure and really quick to get warm/hot. The kitchen was quite large, clean, organised and well equipped and the communal dining area very nice and comfy. All in all a fantastic hostel in an absolutely beautiful location, would definitely recommend! :)

Tucked out of the way a bit so not suitable if you do not have your own transport. Beautiful location just meters from the waters edge. Hostel was clean and tidy with helpful staff. Decent sized kitchen and large communal areas. Only complaint (and its a small one) would be that the drying room is too small- literally a cupboard - given the hostels location there are plenty of hikers looking to use this space - and it fills up fast. Overall great experience and would happily recommend

We’ve stayed at Ratagan hostel in April. The check in was super quick and easy and staff made us feel very welcomed. The hostel had all the necessary amenities, although showers can get busy. The kitchen was very spacious and well equipped and the dining area as well as the lounge were cosy. The views are spectacular, so make sure to enjoy your morning coffee or tea outside!
