We booked Roscoe which is the 3 bedroom cabin for our family of 5. Riverside Cabin seems great and has good reviews. I don't normaly post negative reviews to put a business down but our stay here is the worst and traumatic I have been so far.
Great contactless check in, a man came to us and explained the hot tub and introduced himself as the owner. He sounds bossy and smells of alcohol so my partner does not want to interact, so I did. At first it was great! This place is amazing and seems like they invested a lot. There is a feeling of privacy as cabins are not next to each other. Since i came from night shift, after a soaked in the hot tub i went straight to bed. I woke up few times as there is a foul smell in the master's bedroom. We opened windows, sprayed etc and assumed the cleaning is just poor as we can see confetti everywhere. Next day we are out for a walk and when night comes, we can still smell the odour next to the bedside drawer that smells like a dead animal. So we started to investigate, and we found holes outside the cabin and saw a mouse like animal entering the hole. And now we can hear scratches from inside the wall. I went out to call their attention at 8 pm and i know its late but,I would appreciate if they offer an extra bed or move us to the empty cabin.
A woman came she said she is a nurse and she did smell worst than this. While i understand this statement is used to reassure a patient, it does not sound right to a guest complaining about a foul smell in hospitality setting. She offered for an air freshener which is nice and explained we are in the woods so animals are here. We are not scared of the animals but we cannot sleep with the smell. So i asked for a blow up bed which they dont have but luckily the sofa is a pull out.
Next morning, lights do not work and no hot water but anyway we are leaving at 10am. My partner went for a walk with the kids outside and i stayed in thr cabin. The owner came around 8.30 with a cup of tea in hand. Again he explained we are in the woods and animals are around. I felt that they do not understand the problem. It is not the animals being present but the foul smell you cannot sleep. He apologised and promised a 10% refund which i am grateful but havent received yet. Here is when things get crazy. When i inform him that lights and hot water does not work that morning , he immediately said they do without even checking anything. So we both check the tap, he also put his hand in the running water and claimed that the water is warm eventhough its freezing. He said they will issue 10% refund and he went outside, again telling me he is the owner, leaving his cup of tea and asked me to pass it to him. I was trying to be polite and dont care about refund. It seems like they do not want to hear that this amazing place has faulty issues.
My partner asked me if i informed them abt the issues and if he checked the fuse, pest control, etc which they didnt. So he went to speak with him. The owner was insisting that hot water is on but now refusing to put his hand in the tap. It is very sad that they do not want to admit the problem and not even trying to solve it. It is absolutely fine to recognise this as it happens and its normal. What is nasty is that he is making us stupid and pretend there is no issue.
To be fair, this is an amazing place for nature, facilities are top notch and so is the arrogance.. all day you can hear and see them speeding back and forth. Having 6 years of experience in hospitality industry in the Middle East, I would not recommend this to family and friends. I am glad we only booked 2 nights and did not spend Valentines Day...
Read moreSuch a beautiful location and a lovely place to get away with a partner - the hot tub is great! Unfortunately there was a few little things that weren’t as great - I sent an email enquiring about the welcome hamper that’s mentioned in the initial email after booking to enquire about its contents and whether I could arrange it but never heard back which was a shame.
We arrived 40 minutes after our check in time (7pm) due to traffic (and called ahead at 5:30pm to make the staff aware) and were told by the gentleman on the phone to try and be quicker as staff have commitments as it’s their Saturday night too and to get there before 7. Of course I’d never want to take away from someone else’s weekend but as a paying guest it made me feel very guilty about traffic I couldn’t control and we’d left in good time to arrive when we were supposed to.
The next day when my partner and I were sat in the hot tub the same gentleman from the phone approached the cabin we were staying in and seemed as though he was about to walk straight in before spotting us and saying he had to check something with the heating - this concerned me a little bit as just 5 minutes before I’d been getting changed.
Later that evening I text the number asking politely where we could find the materials for the fire pit package we had paid for and received a very kind message that was meant for another guest followed up by confirming it was sent to the wrong person and then quite a sharp reply back. I’ve seen some really lovely comments about this gentleman so maybe our lateness had a lasting impact and we were unfortunately treated a little differently to other guests it would seem.
Overall it really is a beautiful place and there was the added bonus of an air fryer being in the lodge which was great! Don’t forget to pack your own body wash/shampoo/conditioner as this one caught us out. The lady who came to show us how to work our hot tub was lovely as was a different gentleman who said goodbye and asked us how our stay was on the...
Read moreWe have just returned from a short break at Riverside cabins where we stayed in Doris, and wow! What an amazing place this is! We felt relaxed as soon as we entered the gates, there was a lovely calming atmosphere about this place where you can’t help but switch off and relax! The accommodation was lovely and cosy, well equipped with air fryer, microwave, toaster, hob, coffee machine and kettle with complimentary tea coffee sugar milk and nespresso pods, as well as lots of utensils, crockery, washing up liquid and added extras such as tinfoil, clingfilm and dishwasher tablets! We thought this was a nice touch, and we approve of the size of the mugs in the cabins! So many times we have gone away and the cups are just not big enough for a decent cup of tea, so well done riverside my husband was very happy! The view from our cabin was just to die for, it was so peaceful and relaxing sitting on the balcony listening to the river and we loved the added bonus of our own private hot tub and fire pit outside also. Our two-year-old daughter loved the ducks on site, and we loved the look of the new communal areas too! Everything has been done to a high standard and has been well thought out. We also loved the added benefits of the free kayak and paddleboard hire, something we didn’t try this time but definitely will on our next visit! The area was gorgeous, surrounded by woodland with the river Perry flowing through the site with some good pubs nearby for meals and plenty to see and do in the area! Anthony and his team were lovely and friendly and we felt very welcomed. This is our first trip but it certainly won’t be our last, next time we are looking to book a larger lodge and bring our two dogs with us as well! Thank you Riverside cabins for such a lovely stay, we...
