Rock Moor House Bed and Breakfast — Hotel in Great Britain

We were so disappointed with this B&B, but luckily the only bad experience we had in Northumberland. We think the room had been dressed with the nice bed for the booking photos as it certainly wasn’t the one we got. Rather we got the dirty rattan headboard (showed in another guest’s photo) and poor facilities. The plug point was nowhere near the mirror so I had to hunt down a reluctant man to ask for an extension head so I could dry my hair; and then the hairdryer didn’t work and had to hunt someone down again. The shower-room was damp - and smelled musty - to the point the fittings were rusting and the over-mirror light didn’t work, being just balanced on the mirror and not wired in. The toiletries were well-used jumbo economy sized and the grey towels suffered in the insufficiently aired shower-room. We feel this room may have been toshed-together to accommodate extra guests during the summer season. Carolyn was certainly not welcoming and on arriving at the house we felt more like interlopers than guests. The cooked breakfast was fine and the fresh fruit welcome; but the buffet part of the breakfast certainly needs attention eg. the cereal was inedibly stale. Absolutely wonderful place! We arrived late at night and the owner was kind enough to stay up and wait for us. There was cake and sherry we could have in the study. The building is absolutely beautiful, staying there I felt like I was a rich, middle class British person in the 20s. The breakfast was absolutely amazing! There was even freshly prepared fish (I don't remember what kind, but apparently it's a local delicacy and it was delicious!) and other types of warm breakfast to choose from and of course also a cold buffet and the most delicious fresh fruits. My self and husband stayed for 4 nights end of June . On arrival we could see that rock moor house is a very special place . Our room was very clean + comfortable with lots of space . There was always plenty of hot water for showers + replacement towels + the furnishings are very nice. We had a good night's sleep as it's surrounded in countryside. Our breakfast in the morning was superb plenty of cereals / yoghurts/ fruit. home made bread . Full English breakfast + other options. all of excellent quality. Carolyn did a fantastic job in making our stay excellent . Very friendly + nothing is too much trouble ....
