Disappointing nights sleep 😕 Turned up to site checked in at the pub, staff seem friendly and polite. Facilities looked clean. Went for a shower, shower block was clean... unfortunately ripped my shirt on a rusty staple on the gents door on the way out 😑. Unfortunately as the evening progressed two large groups of young adults started drinking and got very inconsiderate . Toilet and floor in the gents had been urinated on and around. The group one side of us carried on playing music past 2300hrs and the group the other side continued to talk and laugh loudly into the night progressively getting louder and continuing to drink. A vehicle entered site after 2300hrs well after 9pm cut off time disturbing us also. Called the number for the site 4 times untill it rang out sent an email also to ask for some marshaling of the site to ask people to be respectful. No answer/no response.
No ability to move away as pitches are designated. Would have been happy to foxtrot Oscar several fields away at this point to get a better nights sleep.
Site could do with some marshaling/checking in the evenings by staff feel like most of the issues could have been prevented by a check on site conditions in the eve? I only saw staff in the pub, felt like the site is left to fend for itself after hours. Ringing the number on the website raises no help at night.
Your basically on your own after the pub closes should anything happen, this was the impression we had.
If you are heading up snowdon for the ranger trail (i think this campsite is close to it?) This is not the site to get some rest after a long drive and head up in the morning. I could not solidly vouch you would get enough sleep if you are using a tent, bring earplugs i guess, i wish i had.
Feel like this is not 100% the owners fault - but if you dont make efforts to enforce your own rules and check on your customers its not good service.
Other than that, stunning views around, food from the pub smelled good. And right next to the steam train line.
(a little update to this review i managed to contact the management via their Facebook chat and they set people down at 2am to deal with the people disturbing the campsite. i believe they were asked to leave. The second group had finally quietened down also and stopped the music. The staff member i spoke to was very polite and apologized for the...
Read moreSo we arrived to pitch 8 which was churned up by something that had got stuck so pitching the tent was a challenge. However this is my honest review:
Good stuff The showers and toilets are super clean. The staff in the pub are lovely Access to the snowdonia slate trail is brilliant and amazing walks to Llanberis. Hot showers Co- op just up the road Quiet site and steam train running adjacent is interesting Nice little walk along the river Our lab loved it!!
Less than good!
The electrics trip if you boil a kettle ( maybe unique to plot 8) The pitches are not level and pitch 8 is a mess of deep tire marks and think mud. Only 4 toilets and 3 showers ( I would not want to be here in summer The pub food is hot or miss. My steak pie was amazing, my son’s bolognaise was awful. Our fellow campers were in bed for 11, but it can be loud and everyone had log fires so the tent stank of smoke. No welcome or check in so you are not quite sure to pitch or go to the pub. The pub is like an old beefeater roadside cafe. But it’s also clearly a big local community centre point. Don’t be put off but a touch of paint would not go amiss.
Overall, it’s ok, great location to escape the big crowds and loads and I mean loads of amazing walks. 4 stars for location. Just avoid the summer as 4 loos could be an issue. Shame we were pitched on what was ploughed field. No one had checked it before our arrival. We left 1 night early due to the mud. Shame we were allocated there S other dryer and higher pitches were free.
The staff behind the bar were always friendly, but the site was just a little underwhelming. I think it’s better for camper vans...
Read moreWe are returning campers, so like the site and what it offers. Overall it's definitely 5🌟. Location is 5🌟, it's on the pretty road through Rhyd du and Bedgellert so perfect for exploring. You are literally between two mountains on the campsite. Cost is 5🌟, amazing value in this region for an affordable holiday. So what you get is perfectly ok for the price. Facilities are 3🌟 or 4🌟, it's about adequate and frequently cleaned. The showers are good, but it needs one or two more showers and bigger cubicles that you can move in. They need more wash basins and more privacy. The two toilets in the top field are a nice addition, but people disable the locks so it's public to the station and pub carpark. Attractions are 5🌟, lovely local pub attached to the site, steam railway station, river with secret path, bus stops, loads of walks around Wynfawr and close by.
We were occasionally disturbed in the evenings, most people are quiet by 10:30pm as is the rule. But you won't see a site warden like in some places, so nobody is policing that or checking up on you. That means people ignoring the quiet time and partying in groups are not checked. To be fair the site owners responded quickly to reports of noise and dealt with it the next day. The pitch locations seem to work ok and they are relaxed about gazebos and shelters, so it's a laid back stay so long as other...
