I am writing to balance the view put forward by puma252017, one of our group who posted her individual review without any reference to others in the party. The very fact that this was our (and her) third visit would suggest to you that we have been happy to return and, like others, have found that the property suited our needs. I loved every bit of the stay here and would recommend Stanley House for a group stay. Plus points for me, and I am only speaking for myself (but I know others in the group agree with me), are as follows:- Great to be able to hire the whole place on a self-catering basis A large place to accommodate a large family party of mixed ages. So much room that at no point are people fighting for space or feeling crowded. All bedrooms are ensuite and of a good size with convenient adjoining rooms in some cases with shared bathroom for suitable family spaces. I have slept in 2 different rooms and found the beds to be very comfortable - all Sealy ones I think. Beds made up on arrival and linen and towels provided and were very clean. Whilst there were occasional glitches with hot water for the most part it was plentiful and very hot. Having log fires in the reception rooms was a lovely feature and much appreciated and there was no shortage of logs. The location is superb. You do not need to get in the car again until you leave. Lovely walks from the door and 3 pubs within walking distance is PDG! We sampled the ales in most. The Woolpack owners/staff were very helpful even giving some a lift back to Stanley House when weather was bad. Walks can be as long/short, hard/easy as you want to make them. The Ravenglass & Eskdale railway has a stop just across the road lovely to see the steam train passing. The kitchen and dining area is very spacious with lovely views over the garden and river. Whilst we did have some difficulty with the hob it was not a major issue and someone came immediately to help us with it. Yes, like others have said, the house is a bit dated and needs some tlc but for a family group this meant that we did not have to have eyes in the back of our head when the children were running around enjoying themselves. For the price of one nights B&B in a London hotel you can have a 5 night stay in Eskdale with all food included! There was no muddle with the booking either. Just a muddle with the day the cleaners were due in and that was soon sorted. TO SUM IT UP A GOOD WEEK WAS HAD BY ALL (NEARLY!!!!!!)

Read moreI too thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Stanley House. The house is in a beautiful position in the Eskdale valley, perfect for walking and biking, and most importantly has four nice pubs close by. The property itself is able to easily cater for our large party. It’s fantastic that the rooms are en suite, with showers that actually work, something which we’ve found difficult to find with other properties. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space, and the log burning fires provide a lovely ambience. Although the property would benefit from a bit of TLC, this is the third year we’ve been to the property and it seems like the owners are making an effort to make positive changes year upon year which they should be given credit for. I have found the staff perfectly pleasant and happy to help in any dealings I have had with them. During this stay they fixed a small problem with our bathroom door lock quickly and without fuss. I guess this type of review is subjective, but from my perspective, Stanley House is a lovely property in an excellent location for a family break. I can’t wait to...
Read moreLovely property beautifully maintained. Rent it by the room or as we did the entire house. It’s set is vast gardens adjacent a stream which is easily accessed from the rear gardens, outside BBQ and wooden hut which seats 12 or so and can by prior arrangement have heating. All this just outside the cinema room which easily accommodated 26 adults and children and allows games TV or media to be streamed. All rooms en-suite and very clean and equipped with all amenities including tea/ coffee etc as well as TV’s . Several large lounges and a massive kitchen and dining area over looking the garden area. Any problems just pick up the phone and it’s sorted . Owned by same people who own the nearby Woolpack Inn & Hardknott bar and cafe so highly recommend a visit just up the road . A place we left with fond memories having spent an enjoyable extended weekend break and can’t wait...
