Wedding 17th August 2019 Review of Statham Lodge Hotel
When we visited Statham Lodge, in the process of looking for a wedding venue, we immediately realised it was exactly what we were looking for. A combination of beautiful grounds, an elegant interior and a large function room ticked every box. That was only the start of our journey with this venue, the owner and staff.
From day one nothing was too much trouble, we were supplied with contact names and numbers, prices, menus and advice on choices. Chris was our initial contact, he was fun, knowledgeable on the wines stocked by the hotel and very helpful. We were assigned Leah as a wedding co-ordinator, again she is very knowledgeable, highly experienced and could not be faulted. We had meetings and phone calls, nothing was ever too much trouble.
On the day of the wedding Mrs Walker was very helpful when we needed to adjust the floral decoration on the gazebo, she had an excellent eye and gave advice on what was needed. Then she ensured that all corsages were worn exactly as they should be. Having met her previously she exuded the same charm and calmness we had commented on following the last encounter.
We made use of the bridal preparation room which is perfectly located so that you can see over the gazebo and grounds where guests are gathering. We had a light lunch of sandwiches which was spot on and served with a smile.
Leah was on hand from the minute I arrived at the hotel, four hours before the wedding. She was calm, competent and able to answer every query I raised. She was also on hand for my future husband and arriving guests coping with anything that arose. When it came to the organisation of the ceremony and the wedding breakfast she could not be faulted. She conducted each aspect of the wedding with ease and aplomb, to the point that guests on the top table were commenting on her efficiency and professionalism both which were combined with a huge smile and warmth.
We had provided a pre order of the guests food choices, all of which was served without fault. The guests commented on the quality of the food and the fact that everything was piping hot when it arrived at the tables. We had 100 guests and heard nothing but compliments. The waiting on and bar staff were all friendly and efficient.
Many of our guests stayed overnight, they enjoyed the accommodation and breakfast the following day. Many of us had stayed up in the residents bar until it closed, again the staff were cheerful and professional despite the late hour.
All in all it was a perfect venue for a...
Read moreSo disappointed by the whole experience. After travelling for 26 hours I requested a room with a bath, which I had already done so via previous contact with the hotel. only to be told at reception this wasn't possible as the hotel was fully booked! There is no elevator so not user friendly with heavy cases. The room No:3 was barely bigger than a box room, with a double bed, not enough space to open your case and a shower with only a rainfall shower-head! Whilst sat in the room mortified at the poor standard I went online only to find that there were rooms available and with the bath I requested. My second attempt with the receptionist after stating I would not stay in the room provided and that I could book a room online there and then in the so called full hotel she found a room with a bath. I then moved myself. I questioned how cold the rooms and hotel was and that the radiator in my previous and new room was cold, she said that there had been no other reports but would check, suffice to say nothing changed on that front!|I decided to each in the restaurant it now being an hour since I checked in, and ordered steak and chips. The only time I have ever ordered a steak and not been asked how I would like it cooked. Surprisingly It arrived within minutes and on the plate was literally STEAK and CHIPS!!! not salad or veg nothing. My desert arrived again very quickly after eating my meal, I guess they were in a rush to end service. I finally retired to my room to have a hot bath, in a cold room as despite turning the radiator valve up no heat arrived, clearly the heating in the hotel had been turned off. The final straw was to find that the TV didn't work in fact it wouldn't even switch on. I left without breakfast the following day as I wasn't prepared to spend another penny at this hotel. I checked out with a different receptionist who thank god for her didn't ask how my stay was! |I have NEVER EVER, left a review on anything before, but this experience as so poor I feel compelled to do so, to manage anyone's experience when booking this hotel in the future. My advice give it a wide berth, look idyllic in the pictures but...
Read moreWe visited this venue for a family meal in the early afternoon, bringing together relatives we hadn’t seen for many years. The location holds great sentimental value for us — my grandmother worked there for many years, and my mother even held her wedding reception at this very place. Because of these connections, we booked the meal several months in advance and were looking forward to a memorable reunion.||We were offered a private room that could accommodate 25–30 people, which seemed ideal when booking. On the day, our numbers were slightly lower due to illness, but still close to the expected total. ||We had submitted our orders from the bar menu a week beforehand. However, there was some confusion around whether two guests who hadn’t pre-ordered would be accommodated. This felt odd, as we would expect a venue of this size to handle a small change without difficulty.||The room allocated to us was actually a wedding reception room. Unfortunately, it felt far too large for our group and lacked atmosphere. Amazingly, there was no music available, so we had to resort to playing music from someone’s phone to create some ambience. The bar itself, which we had anticipated would be lively and welcoming, was surprisingly quiet — adding to the sense of a subdued occasion.||The food itself was acceptable but unremarkable. Nothing was particularly wrong with it, but nothing stood out either. Cheese and crackers were not available when requested, which was disappointing given the size of the menu.||Another frustration arose over payment. Our plan had been for each family group to pay for their own meals, but we were informed on the day that splitting the bill would not be possible. This felt inconvenient and surprising, especially since the meal had been organised well in advance.||Overall, the experience felt underwhelming. There seemed to be a skeleton staff and the lack of atmosphere didn’t match the warm, nostalgic setting we...
