Ate at the pub.
We were the first to arrive for the evening service. The interior is very dated, with old carpeting on the floor which is never great in a pub /restaurant. There were strips of silver gaffer tape and loose cables across the floor. There was an old yellow plastic bucket in the grate.
We were very surprised to hear the hostess complaining loudly about guests who had just arrived to stay in the pub accommodation. She was mimicking them to another member of staff and then came over to share her annoyance with us. All because the guests had the temerity to ask for a double bed when they could easily push two singles together. Shame on them!
The lack of professionalism continued with a waitress walking around, serving behind the bar and at tables wearing an anorak.
My partner ordered the black pudding, chorizo and cheese sauce starter. What arrived was appalling. Two pieces of black pudding, a thin slice of chorizo cut in half and placed on each piece of black pudding with the whole lot drowned in white glutinous gloop which was masquerading as the cheese sauce. It was served on a vegetable side plate. No garnish, no effort at presentation, simply dolloped on the plate.
I ordered the 'Bryn Bara' something the hostess was particularly proud to recommend. It was a beef stew served in a bread basket. I have eaten something similar in restaurants before and it is usually a 'show stopper' . Bryn Bara was most definitely a "show stopper", it certainly stopped me in my tracks when it arrived. Half a loaf of bread with stew "plonked" on top. No finesse at all.
The monk fish linguine although equally unattractive was passable.
The chef is trying to produce gourmet food but fails to deliver. I think the establishment should stick to basic pub fayre such as plougmans lunches or similar.
This place needs a complete make over......... over to you...
Read moreShame we have to leave a low rating. We we're looking forward to eating there and trying the beers/wine they have. we travelled an hour and a half to The Bryntirion Inn, only to be turned away because we were in a motorhome. They advertise on a number of on line platforms that they accommodate for motorhomes, but when we arrived and asked if we could book a table for dinner and where would be the best place to park, we were told that they no longer accept motorhomes. And they were aware that they still are on platforms that say they welcome motorhomes. They also asked us if we knew how to remove them from the advertised platforms, it's up to them it's there business and we obviously wouldn't be allowed to control any advertising they do ? We obviously were extremely disappointed to be turned away, first time in over 25 years of travelling Europe as well as the uk that we had been turned away. I find it hard to understand turning away around £100's worth of business in this current climate with the amount of pubs closing down due to lack of trade. We chose this pub because it looked wonderful when we came across it advertised. The last two pubs we stayed at on our travels that week we had already spent over £167 on eating and drinking out, we always have a bottle of wine food and try local beers, to us that's what a holiday is for. The ideal thing with a motorhome is that you can spend money on food and drink especially as you dont have to drive when allowed to stay at pubs. Most get this but some just don't think about whats best for the income of the business.. They were quite nice about turning us away but we still felt extremely low and had to then sit in the carpark to find somewhere else to wine and dine. Please sort your advertising out to save other people the disappointment of travelling miles to not...
Read moreI wish I could say it was everything I hoped it would be.
Sadly disappointed, first impression in the bar was that it seemed like it was lacking something, selection of spirits looked depleted with mainly empty bottles, bar man had little knowledge of wine choices.
Once seated in the restaurant right between the gents and ladies toilets, I get that someone has to have that table, but when there were many other vacant options, it would have been thoughtful to have been seated at one of those. I chose the steak (£35) and my wife went for the pork belly (£26), no accompaniments or sides offered, no selection of potatoes or vegetables offered, there is a small selection of sides on the menu, but no interaction from staff, no suggestions and definitely no “smiles”. My steak was literally just that, steak on a plate, no garnish/dressing. My wife's pork was dry and overcooked. I don’t mind paying the prices and yes, it is on the expensive side, that said it has to come with the service.
I have recommended to family and friends who have visited the area and now feel a little embarrassed as I had expected so much more, both from the service and standard of the food.
Hoping we just caught them on a bad night, the kitchen and the staff.
Also the ladies toilet really needs a blind at the...
