Very average! The room was basic with 2 single beds, no air con and as it’s on the road, could t sleep with the window open due to the noise. The pub/restaurant was dead was 4 other people eating. The service at first was non existent, she was too busy talking to the kitchen lad. Then too busy shouting ‘stop looking at my arse’ but I eventually was served after I’d got fed up waiting at the bar and sat back down. The food was ok at best, it was very garlic and stodgy. As I was here with work, needless to say I won’t be rushing back.

Afternoon tea was lovely. The scones were a bit too crumbly for us... But a lovely treat on Groupon - not worth the full price. Staff were lovely and very accommodating - well done guys

Me and some friends stay here once per year, every year for a friends annual memorial. Normally it's OK, nothing spectacular but it's where we held my friends wake and so coming back here is fitting.

However, this year we arrived, checked it and sat for some food and drinks.

I ordered a medium steak, two of my friends had some type of noodles and another fish and chips.

My steak arrived and was like hsoe leather. I'm not one to complain, it was well overcooked but I was hungry and so started eating it. I had three small pieces and then the smell of it hit me. It was clearly off and it stank. I ate some of the mushrooms and they had obviously been cooked with the steak because they smelt awful too. I just ate some of the chips and just wanted the smell taken away from me.

The noodles had arrived and just looked like a huge plate of brown stodge. Honestly, it looked like a giant stool sample. Visually held zero appeal. The two do them picked through them looking for bits of chicken but it quickly became clear it was inedable.

My third friend said his chops were fine but the fish was just a mush and was clearly microwaves. How can you microwave fish!

I complained about the food and was asked what was wrong with it. Not wanting to make a fuss I requested the waitress smell my steak. As soon as she held the plate in front of her nose and could see her recoil.

She took it into the kitchen and came back saying she would give us desert free of charge. Really poor given the fact that mine was certainly inedable. We had already paid for the food and again, I just didn't want to cause a fuss.

By the time desert arrived I had stomach cramps and I knew that the small mouthfuls of steak had not sat well with me. I wasn't particularly ill in fairness, I had stomach cramps and several trips to the loo during the night but fortunately I had only eaten a small amount.

We were the only people in the restaurant and at last orders we ordered a couple of drinks each. The look of disgust on the bar staffs face was surprising given that all in told we had spent approx £600 between the hotel rooms, food and drinks - and not forgetting the rotten steak - we were likely keeping them in a job during a quiet January!

The following morning, we had prepaid for breakfast and I was hopefull it wouldn't be the same "chef". We went down for breakfast and I ordered an Egg & Bacon on toast. It was fine but the toast was just a single slice without any butter and the bacon was again, just a single piece.

My friends ordered small full English and what arrived looked like anemic muxrowaved vegetable sausages and a dried up single piece of bacon. The beans were hard lumps of barely warm dried mush half dried into the side of the plate. Just awful.

And so despite coming here year after year for many years, this will be my final visit. There are Premier Inns not too far away which we will goto in future.

Sat here now still with stomach cramps, and if the "chef" cannot even smell the difference between rotten meat and good meat then I don't want to eat there.

I would encourage anyway to avoid at all costs and save yourself an expensive trip to...

Do not come if any allergies. Before starting, the bar staff and manager were very pleasant and did their best; this review is a reflection of a negative experience entirely due to the chef. We had a large booking for a birthday, one of whom was gluten free, this was repeatedly made known to the restaurant and checked with. We initially were required to pre-order due to a large booking but the number was reduced hence we were told this was no longer required. We began to order food and there was no issue until being told that the gluten free option, being a jacket potato in place of chips, had sold out. We then went to discuss what could be ordered with the chef. The chef proceeded to tell the person who was gluten intolerant that chips were in fact gluten free (after we had been told they were not) by claiming that the gluten in the wheat could be "cooked out" by using high temperatures. A chef should have a basic grasp that this is not possible. He then proceeded to lecture the gluten free person in an extremely demeaning manner. He concluded he was "not going to argue", after repeatedly saying we should have pre-ordered after being told we no longer needed and saying that the issue was not his fault. The way in which he spoke to the person resulted in her crying hence we left and will not be returning. That being said the manager did apologise repeatedly and was very kind, the chef's behavior however was...

Went for Sunday lunch with friends, the food was ok but was tepid not even warm. This though is not my complaint. The waitress served our meals instead of serving to the side she stood behind me and passed the plates over me, she did say ohh I’ve had a little spillage but we thought that she meant the spillage of gravy on the table. We soon realised the gravy was on the arm of my shirt, on my shoulder down the back of my shirt and all over my jacket which was on back of the chair. We asked to speak to the restaurant manager, she arrived the rudest individual I have ever met. She just said what do you want me to do accidents happen and she just walked off. We decided to forgo a dessert we went to the bar to pay. The barmaid asked if we were ok my said we did think that you would have at least offered a cloth or wipe to clean my clothes. At that point the very rude restaurant manager came around the corner she just grunted and stormed of yet again, we left without comment. I tried to contact the general manager on Monday then again on Tuesday eventually spoke to him on the Wednesday, he told me he would investigate and get back to me in a few day, this is now Monday evening still no contact or apology. We would definitely not return and would advise anyone looking for a restaurant that offers excellent service this place is not for you. We have had better service in our local...
