Simply The Nest!! Our group of 15 hired all three of these fabulous African Safari inspired tents and have had just the most fabulous weekend. As soon as we parked up we could tell that this place was going to be something special - the sun was glistening on the lake and the wind was gently swaying the meadow grasses in front of the tents, bliss! As we all decanted to our own homes for holiday, the OMG's, wows and squeals from the children echoed around the field as the views and facilities sunk in, even more so as the canvas sides were rolled up and the vistas from the main bedroom and the uber luxurious glamping bathroom were revealed. Waking up to those sights and being able to wander down to the lake for an early morning wild swim, watch the boys fish (a trout and a huge rainbow trout were caught and subsequently barbecued for tea!) or launch our own kayaks and sups was the cherry on top of an already beautifully iced cake!! We were even close enough to the Nene to enable a group paddle on our craft from Wansford up the river. Evenings at The Nest couldn't have been any better either after full and busy days (check out the tent building field!!) - lazing lakeside in the sunshine before returning to camp for a blissfully relaxing bubbly bath and then a film and fire pit evening under the stars or a barbecue to cook freshly caught fish. The Nest provides absolutely everything and more that you could wish for in relaxing weekend away and finding somewhere else with the facilities on offer here will be a very difficult task - I'm quite sure we will be back very soon but in the meantime we return home relaxed, revived and full up on fresh air and fun times. Thank you Archie and Emma for all of your help, hospitality and for allowing us to share a little piece of...
Read moreWe don't typically leave reviews, however what we witnessed at the Nest is something that we are totally against and consider unethical, and that we were completely saddened and disappointed to have seen.
The reason for the 1 star is due to the Fox hunt (supposedly drag hunt) that we were woken up to and had to witness just a couple of metres outside of our 'private' tent. We were woken up at 7am to a loud pack of barking dogs - the hunt then went right past our tent with all the hounds loose, and 20 people on horses/quad-bikes (holding a bird of prey) looking in and waving at us within our tent - see attached pictures. We found this entirely ironic, as the Nest rules state to avoid making noises before 8am and not to walk in front of the other tents. We felt that this was not only an invasion of our privacy but we completely lost the feeling of a tranquil, peaceful and private experience we initially got when arriving.
If our 8 month old puppy had been outside off lead (as neighbouring tents were doing) who knows what dangers this would have caused, let alone if there would have been a young child!
We emailed the owner our concerns and disappointment and based on their reply, we would not recommend the Nest due to on the fact that the owner 'accepts this tradition'.
We are followers of the group Keep The Ban, so we are updated on the casualties of this 'tradition'; Beaufort Hunt hounds shot dead at kennels & out of control hounds kill pet cat in...
Read moreThe Nest is a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing lodge on a private wild swimming lake not far from Stamford. We had an incredible stay there - Emma and her husband were so helpful and accommodating. The lodge has so many little personal touches from hot water bottles in the beds to homemade breakfast supplies which made the whole experience feel really special and luxurious. The space is very liveable with a great indoor/ outdoor feel, and a wonderful huge bathtub that looks over the lake while the sun sets. There is also a kitted out kitchen with all the essentials for cooking or the hosts can prepare pre-made meals which is a lovely treat. The hosts also gave some suggestions of local pubs and restaurants in the welcome booklet which we booked and were great. There are lots of nearby areas to discover.
I would highly recommend the Nest to anyone looking for a relaxing break away. We will definitely be planning a second trip soon! You are also able to book all 3 lodges if there is a larger group and have the whole place to yourselves. The lodges are however spread out enough for each to feel very private and secluded.
The Nest is much more than a glamping experience, it feels like a little cosy home and we would recommend to anyone! Thanks for an...
