Stayed at Two Pines for a misty, occasionally drizzly two night stay and already wanting to revisit in the spring or summer to get a different vibe from the place.
The Two Pines treehouse is a gorgeous space, decorated with Scandinavian and mid-century adjacent touches. For me the most special detail inside the tree house was the use of refillable products in the bathroom and kitchen from companies such as Faith in Nature. I am passionate about reducing waste, especially plastic waste so this was great to see. There was also a very good vegan breakfast provided on request which complemented a few bits and pieces we brought along.
Outside, we were able to cook pizzas in the Ooni oven both nights - I had pre-proofed my dough (which was quite frankly getting out of hand with it's gorgeous rise), made tomato sauce and brought I'm Nut OK vegan mozzarella. All that was left was to fire up the oven and all the instructions and bits needed were easy to hand so even novice operators were able to achieve pizza perfection.
And how can I forget - the copper bath. For those of us who live in 70s/80s semi detacheds who have baths that quickly 'run out of steam' - it is hard to imagine that an outdoor bath in November would be anything other than a short lived novelty. 10 minutes before the shivers start and then back into the warm, surely? Well, this bath stayed beautifully hot for most of the England vs Wales match without any top up - my only indication that the football was still on was the occasional cheering from inside the tree house. Other than that, it was me, my bubbly (drink and bath) and my book, with inky black surroundings and almost silence.
Talking of almost silence - apart from where the airfield borders the road, much of the site is in total silence when the animals are not letting you know they are there. It is very peaceful and we walked around most of it using the map provided. The squirrels were very keen on the berry laden trees outside the tree house and we were visited by birds and deers too.
A big thank you to Fin and family for the stay but also the support when there was a bit of a wildlife emergency that needed solving. I wasn't sure how to proceed with the situation and the family were quick to respond and so helpful, we're...
Read moreWhere do we start! Our first Canopy & Stars break - and it did not disappoint. Birch View was one of a kind! Sitting at the end of an old WW2 runway, you get lost in the woods, lit only by some spaced out spot lights leading from the car park. And when that comes to an end, you see the cabin, lit by fairy lights - and that's when we fell silent. It was definitely a 'wow' moment! Everything about our break was fantastic. The breakfast hamper was fresh, well thought out and the amount of food catered for was faultless. The cabin was clean, neat and tidy. The log burner was lovely in the evenings, coupled with the hot tub and hammocks outside was heaven! Literally cannot fault this place at all - we will definitely be returning at some point...
Read moreWe had an amazing three nights in the Two Pines treehouse. The treehouse itself is modern, warm and really private. The nature reserve is an amazing surrounding to wake up in every morning. The pizza oven and log burner were a treat, as well the outdoor bath! Everything worked as it should (after some experimentation!) and the owners had obviously thought about everything to make our stay special. They supplied breakfast food for the first night included in the price which was delicious. It was certainly fun turning up in the pitch dark, which added to the adventure. The cabin was super warm and cosy. Perfect for winter getaways and to just turn off, no screens, no stress, just log fires...
