First of all I have to start with the owners Mick and Gillian.
They are both some of the best hosts I have ever come across. From the moment we arrived they went out of their way to welcome us and help us settle into their wonderful accomodation.
Their warmth and attention to detail would almost be enough of a reason on its own to visit even if the accomodation had been average. However the accomodation is FAR from average, our part of the amazing barn conversion was absolutely fantastic. Again, the attention to detail and style made each room homely and inviting.
Even more amazing was the fact that the accomodation we stayed in was designed to be accessable for the disabled, something which Gillian was obviously proud about (as she should be!).
The views across the fields were beautiful and it was funny to be greeted by the chickens every other morning (who knew they were such characters!?).
The location, though seemingly out of the way, turned out to be a great base for visiting the surrounding area. I would probably advise having a satnav handy to make journeys back to the farm easier. I saved my location when I got to the farm so it was a peice of cake to get back each day.
Overall, a thouroughly enjoyable and relaxing holiday was had and I honestly couldn't recomend Thorneyhaugh...

The cottage is very spacious, modern decor and well laid out. The main access is through a fire door, which is really awkward to lock. We also had no hot water, which we had to sort ourselves as we felt it was late to contact the owner. And flies! We opened the velux window in the bedroom for literally seconds and the room filled with about 20-30 bluebottle flies. I realise it's a farm but no warning was given that this may happen and no swatter/spray or fly papers are supplied. Spent the next few days jumping up when we heard that horrid buzzing sound and trying to swat them.
The only other gripe we had was that two men pulled up outside the children's bedroom and began getting dressed for a days fishing. This was a bit unnerving for our girls in the room because it has a huge glass door and surround and the only way to shield from this was closing the curtains, this is a real shame because the view...
Read moreMy oh my! A gem of a place. Beautiful views. My children loved running around after the hens and watching the cows and sheep. They liked the dogs and cats and walks in the fields. Oak Cottage was clean, bright and beautiful. This is a great, peaceful place to relax after a day of sightseeing. Close to many places. Would recommend this place and will go back. Thanks again to...
