We stayed at Tinto for a couple of nights as we were guests for a wedding at Cornhill Castle not too far away. The hotel definitely has some charm and character, and we learned that it was used as a hospital for both the First and Second World Wars. Apparently some of the graves for the Polish servicemen can be found at the Shepherds Cemetery just outside of Symington.
Our room was very spacious, the bathroom looked as though it was recently updated, and the downstairs restaurant and bar was giving Grandparent vibes: carpeted plaid floors, forest green leather sofas, and comfortable upholstered dining chairs - We certainly loved it!
The food was okay! I enjoyed my fish and chips, but my husband wasn't crazy over his steak dinner. I also found the wine to be a little too warm, and perhaps was opened a while as it had a little funk to it. I stuck with the beer pints after that.
A lot of us guests were sort of reuniting as we all once lived in the Cayman Islands, so I feel the poor bartenders couldn't keep up with our drink orders. If you're reading this, apologies :)
To the Asian lady that was tending to us at the front desk - thank you so much, you were incredibly hospitable, and it was really nice to chat with you,...

Read moreWe stayed at the Tinto Hotel again last night, and had another excellent experience.|The receptionist (I think called Jade) was friendly, helpful and happy with people. She sorted a challenge on how to fit a couple plus our daughter plus two dogs in a standard room - she very kindly gave us an extra room with not extra charge - our daughter was thrilled (especially as our retriever snores, and stayed with us!). The room was very comfortable, with an excellent shower plus tv plus super-king bed plus several double power sockets plus nice biscuits - it was great. We had a great value evening meal (£29 for three including wine), and Pam the breakfast chef went above and beyond by making pancakes for our daughter the next morning - her favourite, with strawberries and nutella. Pam and the waitress were both very friendly and helpful, and kind to our small whippet. We were in the process of driving seven hundred miles from the Northern Highlands, and once again the Tinto was a great...
