ÂŁ2000 for a weekend and Extreme disappointment at a Lakeside House and Gulliver. GOOD THINGS: Location is fantastic. House decoration is great and it looks like an old castle and I love it. Hot tubs were great! Silence and relax. NEGATIVE THINGS: 1. Hosts clearly do not like job in a hospitality bussiness as their attitude clearly shows that they don't like to co-op with their guests. They don't even accept that something is not working. I arrived 35min earlier and I drove across a half of England and they refused to provide a toilet untill 1600. HEATING ISSUES... 2. Bathrooms were freezing cold. When I asked to switch the heating on in a bathroom hosts replyed that heating works twice a day for an 1 hour!! I had to override manually controller and it took over 30hrs to worm up a bathroom so I could take shower without freezing up! 3. Heating in bedrooms is a joke! They fitted a timers so I had to get up a multiple times during a night to start it again and again and again. Host refused to come down and fix it or provide any additional heater at all. In fact I came back home with a sore throat! When contacted they told me to open all doors so the heat from downstairs will warm up our bedrooms. 4. Lighting in some bedrooms are just a joke. My moblile phone was providing more light than their bulb. 5. GAMMING ROOM. This was one of the reasons why our group choose this site above others. Unfortunatly hosts don't care about anything over there. Pool cues were damaged and only 1 was useable. Strikeworth table is broken and playing on it was impossible. Ping pong and footbal table was ok. 6. Disgracefull attitude of hosts! Friends of mine were staying in a Gulliver House. Main oven was broken so they've called for a host to fix it. When lady came she shouted that she is very unhappy to be here and that WE are causing a problems as we don't know how to use it! As it turned out a fuse was broken, so she had to changed it and then she gone away without any appologies for her behaviour. I'll be honest. Hosts should NEVER work in a hospitality bussiness. There was no introduction or wellcoming HELLO from hosts. No H&S instruction. Their attitude, ignorance to customers DID destroy our holliday! I understand that they only want to take our money and not to see us at all! In my private opinion hosts would be happy if we just give them our 2k and get lost. This was one of the poorest holliday expirience I ever had and I rather go to TRAVELODGE next time. Also if hosts will have any issue with my opinion they can contact me. Bye.

We had a lovely week's stay in Lilliput May 2024 - Frances and Neville are unimposing yet attentive hosts. The cottage, gardens and facilities are really well maintained, quiet and relaxing - lots of eating out options with lovely locations views - handily in the welcome info. Our 5th holiday in Cornwall and a brilliant location with 'less visited gems to explore' on the Cornwall/Devon border. All our trips were within 30-50mins drive... Tregantle beach - from car park it's a 5-10min walk down well marked path and worth it - unspoilt sand, clear water and lovely rockpools, its a huge beach and was not busy even on a hot Sunday; Porky Hill / Feather Tors walk in Dartmoor a gentle walk across streams and lovely views; the Rame Head Peninsula; and Cawsand / Kingsand Bays quiet and delightful with lovely narrow streets connecting the two and both have bars and eateries overlooking the bays. Plenty more outings v. nearby we'd love to explore another time - Cotehele, Kit Hill, Tamar Valley. For lazy days at the cottage onsite cottage facilities handy inc. games room, hot tub (optional and worth it) garden, lake etc - we spotted woodpecker and a rabbit came to the back door one morning!

Absolutely lovely setting, great place for families with children. Accommodation as described with idyllic view of the fishing pond. Owls Roost is close to the other cottage but there is a dividing wall that gives privacy. The upside of having neighbours is that the children found friends to play with. Swimming pool is easy to book, it is not very deep and can be great for teaching a child to swim. Games room, childrens playground, hot tub - lots of things to do and enjoy without even going anywhere. There are a few nice places to visit nearby as well.

Wonderful place. Beautiful location. Shame about owners. The whole site is very well designed and thought out. The fishing lake is literally meters from your cottage. The gardens are beautiful and kept tidy and clean.

The down sides: the rules and regulations that are posted over the cottage. A bit strict.

No music outside. Hot tub can only be used between 9.30am and 10pm No children allowed in hot tub. Teenagers to be supervised. Must clean cottage to a high standard before you leave. The list was all very condescending.

And here we move on to the owners. On day 3 The hot tub had lost enough water for the water to not be reaching the filter... Nothing major.

Another note... The owners home is close. Ours was one of the closest with them being withing eye shot and about 10 feet away i could see a hose which could reach our hot tub. So I went to say hello and ask if we could or if they could kindly top up the hot tub please. They was eating their tea. The guy said yes ok.

I walked back to our cottage. Then heard A lot of The f word. The C word. Many other swear words... A torrent of cursing and screaming. I mean you would think the guy just hit his hand with a hammer... The air was blue! I felt terrible I thought o god I must have really upset him asking for some water while he is eating his tea. so when he popped his head over our gate hose in hand.. I said I'm awfully sorry please go finish your tea and do this later on. He did not really acknowledge me And threw the hose in the hot tub and went to turn the tap on. He went back in house and Well he started again. He was even worse this time. I mean screaming the whole house down, again I can only imagine his wife had to deal with all this.

Me and my wife just stopped in our tracks, not knowing what to do. Feeling guilty and terrible and really embarrassed by the whole situation, about 5 minutes went past and the hot tub had a few gallons of water, and was now filtering.

At this point his wife comes round to our garden. She has not got the happiest of looks on her face. Infact one would say she looked grumpy and as if someone had been screaming at her and swearing the air blue. So I think by ways of passive aggressiveness she said to me..."you must be better at not splashing all the water out of the hot tub... And be more careful" To which I looked sheepish and felt terrible and like a naughty child being told off. So let's not beat around the bush cause if you are still reading this.I clearly am. anway I'm a big guy, "fat" some call me(shocker), so I said.. "I'm a big fella... And science says when I get in hot tubs... with my wife.. the water is gonna just spill over the sides... It's just science... im not jumping around in there, terribly sorry" ...something along those lines. (Slight paraphrasing) If looks could kill.. you wouldn't be reading this review right now. The lady shot me a look, and just rolled up the hose and walked off.

They was rude, if they walked past you in the afternoon they wouldn't say hello or say ",nice day" ya know small talk etc. They would just walk past and not make eye contact.

They also would come around at midnight in to our garden to top the hot tub up with chlorine tablets. Waking us up.

So yeah sum it up... TLDNR

Beautiful place. Peaceful. Stunning. Needs new mattresses. Could put firealarm in slighty different place. Unfriendly and rude owners to the point that it has put me off going back. Too many rules and threats of losing the hot tub. And no music outside?

Have read a few reviewes where others have mentioned the poor beds and the terrible attitudes of the owners..and the owners reply with it was an off day... Off days are fine.. but customer service is very important and you can't keep saying you are having off days... at some point you need to curb that attitude and be polite and make an effort to...

Positives.

Location – Local to shops, takeaways, pubs and other attractions, brilliant location. The views – Breath-taking in some areas, lovely land, very attractive. The pond – Big fish, bigger than expected. Parking – Ample safe parking for multiple cars. Cottage – Old farmhouse style, basic but very nice. Child-Friendly – Loads of room for them to be kids and explore.

Negatives

So these views are my own, I didn’t book the place I simply stayed there for a week with my family.

1 ) – Hosts.

I personally found the hosts to be a little rude and aggressive, 11 of us travelled over 300 miles for a weeklong stay, we made a mistake and arrived very early, 9.00 in the morning to be exact, we were told we couldn't check in until 4.30 so we pottered around the local city centre until about 3.30 where we had no choice but to make our way to the cottage, we needed to free up one of the cars so we could pick up our food shop, (had to be collected before 4.00)

upon arrival we were greeted by a very hostile lady who very quickly reminded us we couldn’t check-in before 4.30, we explained and said we just need to free up a car, this was a massive inconvenience and she further protested, anyway we continued as we had no choice. To add to the hostile mood my 5-year-old nephew needed the toilet, we asked if there was anywhere he could go, she refused and said “I told you not to come before 4.30”following on from this, around 10 minutes later she approached a few people in the group and said we need to leave and come back in 30 minutes as we are upsetting the other guests, we politely declined and waited, around 5 minutes later a man appeared and simply said “it’s ready“ turned his back and left. We had other episodes of this sort of behaviour throughout the week but we were in such good company we let it go, (apart from turning the hot tub off, we did complain about that as we had paid extra for it)

2 ) – WIFI

I had some work to do during our stay, I was unable to do so as the wifi signal was that weak, any form of internet connection was a no go, shouldn’t really be advertising wifi when a connection is near on impossible. Could be wrong but all we had was 1 boaster for a 6-bed cottage, not even a modem. Defiantly needs its own connection.

3 ) – Pond

Strange one as I really enjoyed the fishing however some minor tweaks could make it so much better, the front pound needs either clearing of weeds or the introduction of a fair few Grass Carp, between us we went through around 30 separate rigs. (Slightly frustrating)

4 ) – Snowey (The Donkey)

It was a comment made by everybody that saw the poor soul, she had a gash under her right eye that was swarming with fly’s, she also looked in poor health riddled with ticks and fleas, constantly twitching, often seen eating the rotted fence that surrounds her. I’m still toying with putting a call into the RSPCA, her condition wasn’t great and she seems very lonely, we fished the pond next to her for days on end and never once saw anybody check on her (we fished between 9 and 8, could have been done before or after this time, we just saw no evidence)

Even with the above, we had such a great time, I just feel that all of the above is avoidable with more care, attention and appreciation. Would go back to the location probably wouldn’t...
