We just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Trenannick Cottage in Cornwall, and I can’t emphasize enough how much of a hidden gem it is. Nestled deep in the serene countryside, it’s just a short drive from Crooklets Beach, which is also well worth a visit. Coming from Bristol, our journey took just under three hours, and we were greeted with absolutely glorious weather that felt more like summer than early April.
We arrived at Trenannick Cottage around 4 PM on Monday and were pleasantly surprised to find that it’s part of a charming countryside complex rather than a standalone cottage. The small driveway leading to the cottages features ample parking just a short walk away, with stunning views of the countryside and lush plants and flowers all around—truly a nature lover's paradise. The property offers stone barbecues, a small park for children, mini golf, bowling, and even a section for darts and other games.
The owners, Nick and Jules, warmly welcomed us upon our arrival, promptly showing us to our cottage and allowing us to park next to it while we unloaded our car. To our delight, we were greeted with a delicious Victoria sponge cake, a lovely touch that made us feel right at home. Nick even offered us milk and sugar for our tea, making our stay feel even more comfortable.
The site is home to three friendly alpacas, and our 8-year-old daughter was thrilled to learn that Nick generously took the time to let her feed them. A few days later, she even got to take them for little walks around the grounds—a definite bucket-list experience for her! Nick was also a fantastic local tour guide, providing great recommendations for exploring the surrounding areas. We discovered Wadebridge, a delightful town filled with quaint shops, cafés, and charity boutiques.
On Wednesday evening, we enjoyed some local Morris dancing on the grounds, and Nick even let us use the barbecue equipment for our outdoor cooking. I could go on and on about what a fantastic experience we had at Trenannick Cottage. Nothing was too much trouble for Nick and Jules; they trust their guests to treat their home with respect while still being nearby to offer assistance if needed.
I likened the place to a retreat—a perfect spot to recharge and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Without a doubt, it’s a 5 out of 5 experience, and we would absolutely love to return.

Read moreWe spent two wonderful weeks at Pond Meadow Cottage in July 2023. The cottage, which has enough room for up to six people, is very comfortable and cosy. It combines the charm of an old, timbered farm cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom amenities. We very much enjoyed using the fireplace in the living room on one rainy evening during our stay. The good wifi at the same time always ensured our family peace (we have got two teenage kids).
The farm premises are spacious and with numerous flowers, trees, seeting areas, outside fireplaces and playground equipment contributed considerably to our sense of well-being during our stay. So did the numerous animals on Trenannick farm. We loved our regular encounters with the cats, chickens and alpacas that were all quite curious to find out who we were.
Our biggest thanks, however, go to Jules and Nick who welcomed us so warmly and in a very discreet and unobtrusive way somehow managed always to be at hand when we either needed help or some inspiration for our daily trips through beautiful Cornwall. We will therefore always remember this family holiday as something very special and look forward to staying at one of the Trenanninck farm cottages...
Read moreHad the most wonderful stay at Trenannick Farm Cottages, our only regret would be not having more time to lounge around in the gardens and take in more of the views.
A very peaceful self-enclosed setup with something for everyone. There's all sorts of activities to enjoy outdoors - from admiring the Alpacas to having a BBQ. And in case of a rainy day, indoors, there's puzzles and games and a wonderful fireplace to enjoy with a very well-stocked kitchen.
The location is also ideal for day trips around Cornwall, we were easily able to cover all our bookmarked activities from there.
The highlight of our stay was definitely our incredible hosts Jules and Nick, they had great advice to share about local places to see, easily approachable for a chat or any help when needed. Their guide book was so clear and thorough we didn't really have any issues. They were also incredibly kind and got in touch when one of our party members forgot a wallet back at the farm and shipped it back to us so swiftly.
All in all an amazing place for a family getaway and we will definitely be...
