Why only 3 stars? We stayed here for 5 nights at beginning of July, as a base to explore Hadrian's Wall, which it is ideal for. However, if you are going to stay here there a number of things that you need to be aware of. 1) When you book, by phone, you get nothing in the way of confirmation or instructions and the owner insists on you paying cash. 2) The grass is all overgrown. The grass next to each pitch was about 30cm high and could not be used for an awning or chairs. The grass at the front of the site was over meter high. which obscured the view and behind the pitch was the same. 3) The chemical waste and bin area is dirty and unkempt. It has not been swept for months and you are not quite sure what you are treading in. The elsan point is desperately in need of a clean and there is a blockage, because the waste takes ages to drain. Also when someone uses it, there is a strong smell of sewage at the back of the pitches. So I think the chemical waste uses the same pipe as the water waste. 4) The dog walk which is advertised, does not exist, because the field is all overgrown. When I raised this with the owner, he said we could use the next field, but this had sheep poo everywhere. 5) Owners attitude was very disappointing. All he seemed interested in was collecting our money and offered no local information etc. In summary, the owner does not seem interested in the site or the customers...
Read moreI emailed to book and Richard confirmed with no problem. On arrival we were pleased to find there’s two large gates so our 8ft wide caravan wasn’t a problem. Each pitch has electric as stated and own tap (very useful!), the pitches are all hard standing and the grass around was cut. The bin area was pretty clean and tidy and the wheelie bins were emptied daily. This is not an immaculately kept site but a CL on a farm and we couldn’t fault it and were more than happy with it. There was an adjacent field next to the site that we were told we welcome to walk the dogs around (kept on leads of course). The site is very easy to find, directly off a B road but was quiet and very peaceful. According to our neighbour it’s a great place for star gazing too. We were more impressed with the 5G of I’m honest. We would...
