To prove our stay from almost 4 years ago now, these are the photos......as I didn't want to review straight after incase it was written only with the emotion of anger - then life and creating a family took over my focus. We booked the honeymoon suite for our wedding night and the night after. We had to check in between our wedding ceremony and our reception as they refused to let us check in later than 8pm as the desk was only open for certain hours (it was a friday). When we returned late at night, my new husband and I used the loo which not only blocked due to old systems, but the bathroom did not have any soap or any other complimentary bathroom products as offered. We also tried to close the bay window (it was october), and the window would not close as it was broken. Also, my husband asked for something in the room (e.g. bottle of bubbly or rose petals, etc), but none were provided. When complaining the next morning about the window, blocked toilet and lack of soap and newlywed petals, bottle of bubbly or whatever, all staff seemed unaware we were newlyweds and did not seem to care. The gentleman at reception also didn't believe us that there was no soap and marched us upstairs to physically check before then wandering off to get some bathroom products. Our apology came as a complimentary cold soft drink - which didn't come close to the chilly first night as a married couple with no toilet, no soap, a window that wouldn't close and no celebratory additions to our room. As for the second night, they wedged the window shut with paper and told us not to touch it, fixed the loo and begrudgingly gave us bathroom products. Needless to say, we checked out as soon as we could and gladly went back to our construction site home with better facilities! Made a great story and memory about our wedding stay, but definitely encouraged us not to recommend this place to anyone!

My wife booked an overnight stay as an Easter treat (probably more for the dogs benefit than mine, I'm used to playing second best) On arrival, it was clear that Worplesdon Place is kept to a high standard. We were greeted by Eleanor who was extremely welcoming and showed us to where our room was. We had been given room 10 which had been recently refurbished. The room had a large bed, a writing table with built in fridge and snacks. Two window seats looking onto the grounds, a tv and bathroom with a bath and a separate shower. I joked with the wife "do we check for dust and hairs like on four in a bed" but it was not necessary as the room was spotless. Whilst our dogs chased each other around the grounds we met people staying at the hotel and those stopping off for a drink had nothing but good things to say about Worplesdon Hotel. We had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant in which the level of service was above most restaurants I have visited. As it was a Sunday after an excellent starter we decided to have the roast offering. The chef cooked an excellent roast that I unfortunately could not finish as it was a giant portion. Although we knew other dogs were staying with their owners in the hotel we did not hot hear any noise. In the morning after a walk, we had breakfast in the hotel where Stuart took our orders, again Stuart's level of service was commendable. The cooked breakfast was superb and I have never tasted black pudding as good. We met Eleanor again and she was just as helpful and friendly as the night before after working a long shift. We left Worplesdon Hotel thankful to Eleanor, Stuart and all the staff we interacted with, all the staff we did not see in the kitchen. We will be letting our friends and family know where to stay for a relaxing and friendly experience. We will definitely be back!

We spent a week at Worplesdon Place in January 2025, and hosted several dinners for other guests, an afternoon tea, and sundry drinks and breakfasts. From booking and pre-arrival, the staff were welcoming and accommodating. We arrived at 10:30 am after disembarking a transatlantic flight and driving from Heathrow; it was a Monday and fairly quiet so we were allowed to check in early. Worplesdon Place is centered around a large open plan bar area, furnished with plenty of seating and quiet nooks. In the morning this is laid for breakfast; at lunch time for lunch; afternoon tea is served here. At the rear there is a dining room where dinner is served, and a function room. The pub area is very dog friendly, and much of the local clientele during the day is accompanied by various canines. The grounds are extensive and include a pond complete with a rare pair of black swans. Parking is on-site and more than adequate for hotel guests; it can get busy if there is an event taking place and if there are a lot of visitors at the pub. The guest rooms are older and more traditional (It is an English country hotel, after all). This is where some of the drawbacks creep in - as an older building there is no elevator and all the feature rooms are on the upper floor. There's also no air conditioning, which is fine in January but may become material in the summer months. Apparently this is because the main house is a listed building, making it hard to seek permission to do major alterations. However - the rooms are comfortable, well equipped and well serviced. Just expect some quirks. Food and menus and excellent, and certainly exceeded my expectations. Overall, I thought it was excellent value, and the service and staff were flawless. I will certainly stay here again.

Only accidentally ended up here due to my mum clicking to buy a voucher on Groupon, which she didn't realise she brought. We phoned up on Tuesday at 2pm to book for the next day at 4pm. The man on the other end demanded we have to do it with 24h notice, 2pm till the next day at 4pm is over 24h. When he realised that he booked us in. We drove over a hour to get there. When we pulled in the outside of the building and landscape was lovely, couldn't fault the look of the place. We decied to get a cold drink before our afternoon tea as we was 15 minutes early. The lady at bar was poliet enough and we was looking forward to our afternoon. Then it went down hill, we went to the room were we were having the afternoon tea in. We was put in the corner, there was no one else in the room only myself and my mum. So god knows why we had to book 24 hours in advance and such a fuss was made of it. We had a chiped plate, only a knife each; I think guilford have a cutlery shortage as the pub we went into on the way back (because we was hungery due to the poor afternoon tea) only had forks. The girl brought the afternoon tea out, the sandwiches were stale, we only got one small scone with one pot of small jam to share; the ones we have in London and Patisserie Valerie have one plain and one fruit scones each and a range of jams. The cakes at the top looked as tho a 6 year old made them. There was one with lemmon curd in the middle and the pastery was rock hard. Not meaning to sound sarcastic but the clue is in the name afternoon tea, we had tea cups on the table but no tea. When we finaly got the girls attention we asked for the tea she replyed "Oh i didn't think you wanted it as you had drinks" she didn't even ask before so could have asked. When we got it she never brought any sugar and back to the cutlery shortage we didn't get no spoons. So had to use the end of the knife to stir the tea. We was also ment to get two glasses of Prosecco with the deal we never got them. We would have told a staff member but as we was in the corned with no staff comming near us to ask if everything was ok we didn't bother. After we finished the tea we then went. Sadley the experience was a disappointing one. Next time my mum acidently orders something like this were leave it, not worth the time or...

Terrible customer service

I attempted to book this venue for an upcoming event for 20 people. I called and spoke to woman who said she would provisionally book me in but someone would call me to discuss the food options as I was interested in booking a buffet. She also explained that she would send me the events menu. I received an email with no attachment. I waited for a few days and got no phonecall. I called again and left a voicemail with my name and number and no one called back. A few days later, I called a third time and spoke with the manager Tom. He said he would send me the menu. I explained that I would come by on Sunday to discuss the details for the event. I received his email, again with no attachment. I called back and left a voicemail with my name and number and explained that I had not received the attachment. Again no call back and no follow up email.

On Sunday, I drove 40 minutes to the venue and asked for Tom. The staff said he would be in soon but in the meantime I could speak with the female manager on duty at the time. I told her I would wait outside on the decking for her. I had come with my baby and it was quiet a hot day. Despite 3 reminders that we were waiting, she didn't come out to talk to us. Despite every member of the team knowing we were waiting, Tom arrived on shift but did not bother to come to talk to us. If I knew someone was waiting for me, I would go to speak to them before I did anything else. After waiting for 1 hour 15 minutes, I spoke with the female manager for the final time. She made excuses as to why they could not speak to me for 10 minutes and stated that Tom would call me that evening.

I received an email from Tom that afternoon explaining they had the incorrect number for me (despite me having left it several times on their voicemail). I emailed back with my phone number and my availability as he had requested. Again I received no phonecall and when I called to speak with Tom myself, I was told he wasn't working despite me knowing that he was. The staff member then told me he would let Tom know to call but (surprise surprise) no phonecall!

It shouldn't be this difficult to book a venue for an event. Terrible customer service. I will be booking with...

I was really looking for visiting this place as I heard so much about it and was recommended through friends. I’ve booked a table in one of the garden huts with a bottle of rose waiting for us on arrival. I received a call an hour before my arrival that they are not serving food in the garden huts and that I still can eat outside but on the decking, which was fine not a problem, and was asked whether I would still like the bottle on arrival. I said yes. When we arrived there was nobody to great us really , felt a bit lost whether we should just sit anywhere or just wait. I walked up to the bar to say I have a reservation, which was checked and was pointed towards the outside and told I can sit anywhere. Not a huge problem, but when you are advertising a packed with a bottle of wine waiting for you at you at your table I would have thought someone would take a little time and take us to the table. Looking around not being very busy this wasn’t the case. I went to order drinks at the bar, so I mentioned not to worry about the bottle included in the booking we will have something else, but it seemed like nobody had a clue what I was talking about. The most disappointing was the food. Ordered 3 Sunday roasts and a fish dish . I mean, I usually don’t complain I just don’t come back, but the pork was dry as paper and potato’s were hard like they were reheated from 2 days ago. When I did voice my opinion about the food I was told and reassured that it was prepared and freshly cooked today. I cook a lot and worked in hospitality for 7 years , but that was nothing resembling a freshly cooked meal. When you can hardly cut a roast potato in half I need a bit more convincing that is fresh food. £18 for a plate like that ? Never mind the fact that the whole dish was hardly warm. Have been offered A drink on the house or a dessert. I left £100+ lighter,no table service none of the advertised packages actually presented .. I don’t think I will be back. I’ve tried to make this a conservative criticism rather then a complaint, but it’s hard not to feel very very disappointed after hearing so many...
