We are just checking out today of the Four Seasons Hampshire after 3 nights and 4 days at the property. We had a WONDERFUL time - it was eight of us total, 3 children (ages 5/9/13) and 5 adults.
We had a total of 4 rooms - all perfect and absolutely beautiful, classic FSH.
The property is just perfect, vast and beautiful and incredibly maintained.
Activity Review
Horseback riding - 9/10 - the facility and staff are wonderful and the ride for non experienced riders is 30 minutes around the equestrian facility. Only reason I wouldn’t give it a 10/10 is there is zero time to ride alone at all without an assessment.
Bird Experience/ Falcon Experience- 100/10 truly the best thing we’ve done all trip and we came from the FSH George V in Paris - Me. Wilson who runs the bird encounter is INCREDIBLE and so kind and knowledgeable and the birds are beyond fascinating. Even if you don’t like birds, or don’t care about this experience, do it anyways!
Carriage Ride - 8/10 - we did two carriage rides through the property and they were great and lovely but kind of just boring, they folks who do it are amazing but it would be a great experience if this could have been longer and paired with a picnic or something (of course for an extra charge)
Canal Boat Tour - 3/10 this one was a bust - the man who runs the boat is very nice but the boat just basically floats along the river at under 10mph with nothing to see. You then are dropped off in town for lunch at the Red Lion, or so we thought dropped off. You are taken to a drop off point and the restaurant is a 20 minute walk. The restaurant itself is fine but nothing worth the walk and with children or elderly this may not be for you.
Axe Throwing / Archery - 10/10 we loved this! The guy running it is wonderful and even though there is an age minimum, he had kids soft throwing axes for our 5 year old. Was wonderful!
Fly Fishing - 10/10 wonderful experience, we fly fish quite a bit so didn’t need the lesson but caught 3 trout - great time! Guide was so kind!
Clay Shooting - 10/10 another great activity, we shoot quite a bit so didn’t need the lesson but a wonderful time and the staff was great.
Amenity Review
Kid’s Playground - 10/10 fabulous little playground, other children were always there so always fun!
Kid’s Club - 9/10 wonderful kids club to drop kiddos off at during the day if you chose. Only downside is a 2 hour max time limit which makes it tough if you are doing multiple activities that small children cannot attend
Kid’s Pool - a great time, children loved it, always a lot of other kiddos around
Adult Pool - beautiful and well appointed
Spa - great services! Massages for 4 guests and everyone loved them
Wild Carrot Restaurant - great selections for a 3 meals of the day, wonderful staff
Pizza Pop Up - really delicious! Should keep this forever.
Afternoon Tea - a must! Delicious
Complaints
The hotel is in need of a refresh - not a remodel but a good refresh - the rooms do not need this at all as they are recently remodeled and spectacular. The spa desperately needs an upgrade - the services are wonderful and so on brand of a FSH but the facilities need life breathed into them, as does the kids pool. The restaurants looks great until you look up, ceilings etc need to be re done. None of these affect your stay in any way but for the price and the fact that it’s a Four Seasons Hotel, it needs to keep up with the FSH look and brand.
Only thing we all as a group wish the hotel offered was some sort of evening activity for families / everyone. Didn’t need to be some big thing, even a star gazing program, optional outdoor movie, night swimming with programming for children. We would have absolutely paid for this if it would have been offered.
In all, we WILL be back - it was a FABULOUS stay and the staff is...

The food served was basic at best and to serve a dish with Truffle in dish without it on the menu is a big mistake from the chef. Truffle is a very powerful taste and for me overwhelming and unpleasant so needs to be described on any dish. ||We had a reservation at La Terressa I walked down to see large volumes of children very loud in this restaurant so it was not for us.
