Decided to stop in here for a bite to eat on route home from a trip to donegal,on arrival to the restaurant,we were told it wasnt a problem,to take a seat, even tho we wernt residents to the hotel...it was a steady service, not overly busy.as we took our seats we were handed menus...waiter came and took our order, tried ordering the pie of the day,but " there was none,( needless to say the menu was pretty limited enough)!..not a great choice..so after our order was finally taken,we,waited..& waited..& waited..to the point it was an hour..no communication given from the few staff that were running around...getting no were fast!..finally a waiter approached our table,to inform us there wud be a delay...and our food would be 20 to 25 mins more...i gave off, told them it was awful service.. eventually i had to get up & approach staff to complain again, and told them if there was no food in next 10 mins we would leave, assuring me it was in the oven,i gave them benefit of the doubt...well finally it arrived...nothing to write home about, very basic food for the lengthy wait we had....so wasnt worth it,disappointed in all aspects of this place..i eventually spoke to the manager, who did listen to me and took everything on board that i addressed with him...clearly this hotel has major staffing issues...and as for the standard of food...not great...their staff clearly lack communication skills in the job at hand!!..so in the end i demanded a discount in billing, for the terrible service, and not great food,my mother in law ordered a childs portion of goujons and chips,(10 chips and 3 burnt goujons came out on her plate)!if a chef in a hotel cant cook goujons there are major problems here! Let alone the rest! I did emphasize i am a qualified chef and work in the industry, have done all my life,i understand this industry is on its knees, but there were many things that could have been done,to smooth out the flaws at hand and maybe salvage some customer frustrations! But it wasnt the case! The manager in the end discounted 33% off the bill, but all in all we will not be back, service was alot to be desired as was the food! If we hadnt of shouted we would of ended up paying a full price of billing for awful...

Read moreWe spent 2 nights here. With 2 little ones age 2 & 4.
On entry the hotel was very nice and welcoming, the fireplace/seated area was a nice addition.
Check in was very efficient and straightforward.
We went for a swim just after arriving, unfortunately the pool was quite cold! Definitely not suited to smaller children for more than 20 mins or so. The pool area in general needs work, alot of damaged vents, poor silicone, light in the sauna was hanging down. Changing rooms were poor, absolutely no need for a tv in there either. Overall the pool area I'd give a 2/5 .
After our swim we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. Upon entering the room everything seemed the way it was earlier. Until we had discovered mouse poop on one of the beds! I brought it down to the reception ina tissue, they chucked it in the bin and moved us 2 doors up. Reaction from staff seemed unsurprised. Overall room sizes were great, bathrooms were lovely. Unfortunately the second room didn't have a bath. But we can manage without that.
Restaurant/bar was stunning. For breakfast the first morning it was a self service on hot an cold, the hot food was very poor and very greasy. We were down early enough so no need for it. The second morning we had self serve cereals, all hot food was made to order which was of better quality.
Dinner was great, portions of starters were very small, I had the boneless wings with hot sauce which was the equivalent to 4 small chicken balls with a scraping of sauce, very disappointing. I had the burger for the mains which was excellent however the accompanying chuncky fries were literally scraps from the bottom of a frozen bag of chips. Shame.
The madra curry, cajun chicken escalope were also very good. Desserts were not very average.
Restaurant score 4/5
Overall it was a good hotel, needs work to be a 4 star in a few areas.
