My review is from the perspective of a self propelled wheelchair user. There are plenty of ramps in the complex but they're steep and difficult to use without someone pushing you. Also doors aren't automatic and can be difficult to keep open. Again you would need to be accompanied. I understand though that the building is an old and characterful one and replacing the doors would remove some of that character. These doors and ramps are unavoidable when either accessing the bar/restaurant/ visitors room or when you're leaving the complex or coming back to your room. It might be a lot easier for an electric wheelchair user although doors may still be a problem if alone. Also found the carpet in the room thick and hard work using a self propelled wheelchair. We moved various items of furniture to give me turning space for the wheelchair. The bathroom is a good size and the shower a wet room but there was no shower stool or chair. I also found the sink a little bit too high to use comfortably from the wheelchair and there was no shelving on which to place toothpaste, sponges etc. There was also a large bath in the room. We had 2 double beds in our room and our bed was very comfortable. For able bodied people the room is great. There is a good breakfast selection and we absolutely loved the eggs. So tasty! We were disappointed on Sunday evening not to be able to get a Sunday dinner. Apparently they sell out very early and when we arrived at the dining room we were shown the Sunday menu so we assumed everything was available. I also had lasagne on the first might of our stay which had obviously been microwaved and was extremely hot. The cheese had melted off the top but was still surrounding it in the dish but was quite difficult to chew through. The restaurant is lovely and all the fire places had real fires lit in them. Very cosy. Dogs are also welcome and there were a few there but all were well behaved. The grounds of the complex are lovely with the same space for dogs to be exercised. The hotel is close to the Antrim Coast, Dark Hedges etc. We had a fab time exploring the surrounding areas. There are also separate bungalows in the complex which cuts out some of those steep ramps although you would still need to use them if accessing the restaurant. The hotel is lovely and full of character, the staff are friendly and the rooms are great. If I was able bodied I would love to go back. And I fully recommend it However as a self propelled wheelchair user I found it difficult to navigate as did my husband who had to push me up the ramps with arthritis in his wrists. I wouldn't like to put a self propelled wheelchair user off - I'd say try it for yourself but be prepared for the difficulties I've mentioned. For our particular circumstances they were a...

My Christmas Day experience at The Brown Trout in Aghadowey was nothing short of magical. From the moment I stepped in, the festive ambience enveloped me in warmth and joy. The setting was simply brilliant, with crackling fires casting a cosy glow, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable celebration.

The culinary journey was a highlight in itself. The 3-course meal was a feast for the senses, starting with a delectable Duck, Turkey, and Ham dinner that showcased the chef's expertise in crafting a symphony of flavours Each bite was a celebration of Christmas on a plate. The finale, a pavlova for dessert, was a sweet crescendo to an already delightful meal.

What truly set The Brown Trout apart was the exceptional staff. Their warmth and attentiveness added a personal touch to the festivities, making every guest feel cherished. The family-friendly atmosphere, including a warm welcome for kids and even our furry friends, created a sense of inclusivity that elevated the entire experience.

In essence, The Brown Trout provided not just a meal but an enchanting Christmas Day celebration. It's a place where the spirit of the season comes alive, and every detail, from the menu to the ambience and staff, contributes to a holiday experience that will be cherished for...

As a young teen my Dad would of taken us here for family breaks often. So as a wife and mum I continued the tradition and from my son was 7 months to now we've stayed in the Brown Trout . We love staying here and our last visit was only a couple of weeks ago but I felt that even though the rooms had been modernised , the rest of the hotel was starting to feel neglected and dirty . Food in evening was lovely but breakfasts were no where near as they used to be . I feel the menu needs updated with dietary information and a bit more open mindedness on those choices . I'm lactose intolerant and struggled to get a meal due to lack of information on menu and then when it came to included meal 3 course I couldn't get a dessert as there was now choices for my requirements. It was disappointing to sit while everyone tucked into theirs . Plenty of people have intolerance and are vegan and when I asked was there alternative I was told I could have fresh fruit salad not very exciting or interesting after a veg curry . Sorry guys but it's 2022 I seriously think you need to...

Came here to stay for the night and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner under Chef Alex, whom I met during my adventures in Northern Ireland! Portions were flavourful and massive! Really popular amongst locals and has a golf course as well. • Brown Trout luxury fish pie (smoked cod, salmon, prawns in cream) with mashed potato, cheddar, chives • Ribeye steak with onion rings, grilled tomato, fried potatoes, roasted garlic and whiskey butter sauce • Smoked salmon with salad leaves, wheaten bread and butter • Prawn cocktail, salad leaves, paprika, lemon wedge with wheaten bread • Brown Trout sundae - Vanilla ice cream sundae with butterscotch sauce, marshmellows, chocolate log and wafer • Warm apple sponge with vanilla custard and half a strawberry
