We have just got back from staying at Oak Lodge and can hand on heart say it was one of our best camping experiences. Nathan and Maeve were absolutely lovely and couldn't have done more for us. The bell tents themselves are beautifully done out, lovely touches such as flowers and fairylights all added to the relaxing atmosphere. There are electric points too for charging phones etc. We loved having a fire pit and a BBQ and everyday Nathan would pop by to see if we were okay and needed more logs/charcoal. The toilet/shower facilities were absolutely spotless (cleaned on numerous occasions throughout the day) and really nicely done out too with Moroccan style wash basins and tiles...the powerful rain shower was a blessing too. We went with my husband and I plus our three young children (my 6yr old son and twin girls who turned 4 yesterday). Nathan and Maeve turned up in the morning with a unicorn balloon, a card each for the girls and a Llama birthday cake. Such a generous and kind gesture. The campsite itself is set amongst lots of mature oak trees, with a plane up a tree for the kids to play in (very quirky) and a pirate boat with ropes and rigging. My little gang particularly liked all the rope swings dotted about the site. The added bonus was the cafe which creates delicious coffee and beverages (all products bought ethically which I particularly liked). All in all...it is a fabulous camp site. We had a wonderful time (even in all the stormy weather). The kindness and friendliness of Nathan and Maeve gave a very warm vibe to the campsite and definitely made our camping experience for the whole family very memorable. Thank you so much. We will be recommending you to all our friends and hope to come back and stay again...
Read moreBest camping holiday we've ever had! Every detail of the campsite made our trip so magical - from the aeroplane in the tree and pirate ship to the marshmallows and decorations in the tent. It's hard to pick a highlight, but we all absolutely adored Animal Hour at 10am every day - it was extremely special to meet all the animals, and the hosts' family was so patient and kind with all of us and the other guests. It was a real testament to the friendliness of the family and business, and wonderful to see everyone in their element with the animals! The tent was fantastic - very well kitted out, excellent bbq and camp fire. The little cafe was lovely too, as we forgot to bring our own coffee. We cycled to the campsite from Brandon station, which was a 30 minute cycle along a main road - fine in daylight, be careful at night. Lots to do locally if you don't mind a 30+ min cycle - Brandon cafes and river walks, Lynford arboretum, Weeting car boot sale! When we expressed an interest in kayaking, Nathan (one of the hosts) immediately offered to take us down to the river with some kayaks. It was above and beyond any generosity we could have expected, and added such a huge amount of joy to our trip. Thank...
Read moreLiked: - Very spacious and open with plenty of space between tents which was very welcomed given that some campsites you're pitched very close to others. Plenty of space for our dog to roam and enjoy the outdoors. Super spacious bathrooms with endless hot water. Nice touch to have water, wine & marshmallows on arrival. Wood and kindling available for fire pit was also a nice touch. Fresh, clean bedding.
Disliked: - No signage on the road so difficult to find as Sat Nav not 100% accurate Entrance to site down a gravel road with MASSIVE potholes, which then leads to a very unsightly maintenance yard. Very surprising and unexpected. Makes you wonder if you've come to the wrong place, or indeed if you've been duped in to making a dodgy booking! But once through the yard and to the tents it's fine and perfectly acceptable, just not the nicest of entrances. Could be a bit more presentable and welcoming...
