Read this before booking. Don't let the photos fool you, nor the posts that say this is a great Premier Inn. I suspect they are false, as anyone with a degree of standards would not feel this P/I was acceptable, let along good. It is located as part of but behind a closed down abandoned looking pub. We drove past it 3 times before seeing the small sign pointing to the rear. It only has 20 rooms, so imagine what the place feels like! We tried checking in 45 mins early but were told by the less than hospitable manageress we would have to pay an extra fee, even though we only wanted to drop our bags off. Seriously, the room was either ready or it wasn’t. The breakfast (which we did not have as frankly we had concerns about what the kitchen would be like) is served in a small area of the closed down pub with the bar area closed and empty, apart from stacked chairs dumped on one side. You have to walk through the abandoned areas to get to the dirty toilets. The bedrooms are old and Very tired, as is the outside. The mattress was not the usual comfortable P/I one we have come to expect in every other P/I we have stayed at, which is quite a few. It was old and saggy and I resisted the urge to look under the sheet for fear of what I would see. The room smelled of damp. The TV constantly lost signal, and had to be turned off then on, to get it back. The hot water was anything but…. The WC would not flush, and the tap constantly dripped. This P/I needs to close immediately and be comprehensively refurbished. It was also clear the staff were demoralised as they said they had been told a year ago there was going to be a refurb, but had not heard anything further. Their attitude was poor, except one young man who was very pleasant. The other one was sarcastic when I asked for head office details to complain, and when I left saying I would find them myself as he walked off whilst I was still waiting for him to find them, he shouted out, have a nice day. His manner and appearance said it all, although it did match the overall appearance of the place. In summary, location great, everything else, abysmal and not worth £25 per night, let alone the ridiculous fee charged, which I will be seeking a refund of.Thankfully we are now at another Premier Inn in Devon for a further 5 nights and it is of the usual standard, with staff who clearly...

Room was clean but cold, left the heating on and went for dinner.
We were sat at the smallest table for two I have ever seen. Dinner deal was main meal and with a starter or dessert and a drink. Limited drink choice so upgraded to our choice of drink. Service was quick and staff were all good. Food arrived and not sure if it was because it’s a deal but our meals were smaller than the other customers who had similar, (thought we had been given the child’s option) it was over cooked and had been reheated in a microwave, warm round the edges and steaming hot in the middle. We both had a starter which wasn’t great, seriously lacking in ingredients. At no time were we offered the dessert menu although everyone around us was, we had said we were happy to upgrade but our plates were left stacked up on the tiny table and we were ignored. We wouldn’t have had the deal if we had known it was so limited and small. We had one more drink at the bar before going back to our room.
The room had now reached Antarctic conditions, the heating didn’t work, so we switched it off and went to bed. Laying in bed listening to the bathroom fan that we ended up switching off manually, because it didn’t turn off alone only to discover it had a matching sound from an industrial fan in the car park - how lovely! After a restless night, listening to the whirring we decided we, couldn’t face breakfast, even though we had paid and got ready. Really don’t know what our room was above but the floor was randomly vibrating? Almost as if a train was passing although there isn’t a train line as far as we knew. Such a shame as we always use premier inn for our nights away but this has to have been the worst one we have stayed at. We didn’t complain to staff as it was late, only for one night and we really don’t think another room would have been different as they all faced the noisy industrial fan unless you paid for...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night as it is ideally situated for us to catch the Isle of Wight ferry the next morning. Our experience was tale of two halves. Reception staff (Ollie) welcoming friendly and helpful. Evening meal, Matthew worked really hard to make our experience a pleasurable one. He was attentive, friendly and very hard working. We had the Fish & Chips and the Bolognese with Cheesecake for dessert. Everything was delicious.
Then breakfast. When we arrived there were tables that had not been cleared of dirty dishes. There were no plates available for pastries/toast though fresh plates were eventually brought out. There was no milk for teas & cereals I had to ask and it was refilled immediately. The Cornflakes were empty as they had not been and were not refilled. Other cereal containers had cling film left on them showing how they are kept from day to day. When we arrived we had the last Cranberry juice and it was not refilled during the time we were there. The coffee machine had warnings that the filter needed emptying and the milk was empty. The milk was refilled but the filter was not sorted out while we were there. The cooked breakfast was delicious and cooked well. The chap serving was nice & friendly however it is clear that the evening staff need to show the daytime staff how service should be done. The hotel itself is a little rundown but not so much as to detract from the comfort of our stay; but it could do with a lick of paint and a bit of love. The shower bracket in Room 9 is broken so the shower head would not...
