This is our second stay for one week within two years. We opted for a Traditional (Pet Friendly) Lodge as this time brought the dogs. The lodge was clean throughout and had comfy beds. Although we paid for an early check-in, on arrival the lodge was still being cleaned and the cleaner stated she was not informed of our early arrival. (Lack of communication between the site office and cleaning staff). The lodge has all cooking equipment although there was only 3 forks in the cutlery draw. The hot tub is a great addition to wind down and is lovely and warm. Unfortunately there is no access to the Forrest for walks and restricted to a small walk around the old camp grounds that remain on site. (See pictures). We didn’t receive the welcome pack that states you do on the website that consisted of a bottle of wine, chocolates, dog treats and a dog towel. Although only a minor addition we did question this with the office and were informed this stopped over a year ago. Hopefully they’ll update their website and remove the information leaflets in the lodges stating they do. During our stay we had a couple of takeaways that deliver straight to your lodge which was great not having to travel out and collect. There are two supermarkets (ASDA and Tesco) within a 5 minute drive of the park which was perfect. Free WiFi is available and had no issues streaming TV. We didn’t have a mobile signal (Vodafone) but luckily could use the WiFi to make calls when needed. Finally, due to the Hot weather there are a large amount of wasps which are pretty angry whilst you sit outside. We managed to make a trap with a water bottle and some sugar water which we placed in a corner of the decking which kept them interested and away from us majority of the time.

Stayed here in February over the half term. The lodge was decent heating made the lodge warm and the water is hot and has all the appliances etc to have a good break. Check in was easy and as we had the dog they provided a bag of treats which was lovely. The location is a hideaway there is nothing on-site but the local area has loads to do so this is a place to explore, there is a big Tesco, Pub, McDonald's, parks etc minutes away too. I was disappointed there were no walks on-site I just walked the dog on the roads and the site isn't as big as you expect, the roads need repairing not great for the car... So staying here means being willing to explore and driving is a must. But there are loads of things to do and explore pretty close by so don't be put off. The lodges do need a little TLC but all in all ours was decent. The Hot Tub was really warm and we enjoyed it, again a little TLC wouldn't hurt but we loved it. There wasn't much seating in the lounge and the sofa is as hard as a rock not comfortable at all but I imagine as we had a pet friendly lodge these may be here more for durability than comfort. The beds are very firm but we don't mind that. The views are lovely and we even saw some deer bouncing around. All in all if you are happy to explore you will do fine here, but if you want all the on-site amenities then this will not be the place for you.

Was looking forward to this trip but it left me with mixed feelings: +nice quiet location, backing into the woods, lots of animals: owls, bats, rabbits +cosy and small but neat looking and well equipped lodges +every lodge has a hot tub +close to local attractions +great on-site service, really friendly and helpful -very hard to navigate around if you don’t have a car: the forest surrounding the Hideaway is gated and barbed wired (the hotel changed owners recently and lost access to all surrounding forests), there are little to no pavements around the hotel. We often had to walk on the road. -abhorrent Wi-Fi, which the staff thankfully fixed -no aircon in a cottage that heats up really quickly under the sun and has windows that only open by a tiny bit -no response at all to my emails from the staff prior to arrival Overall, a bit disappointed by the experience and if I’m back in the area, will choose a different, more pedestrian friendly place to stay.

Stayed here for the weekend very recently upon arrival the lodge didn’t look much from the outside but when you get inside the wow factor does hit, modern, spacious and clean (to the eye) we paid for a ‘birthday package’ which was £15 and we weren’t expecting the world but 1 balloon and 3 little banners (which were originally 1 banner cut into 3) was a little underwhelming, we expected a little more for £15! Very excited to have a hot tub for the weekend as a nice treat, however it said in the welcome booklet that it got to 38 degrees, not once over the weekend was it above 35 in fact we had to add some hot water out the tap to warm it up. The lid was very tired looking and the frame to hold it just fell on the floor due to the gas struts no longer working so it’s a good job we’re strong! In general the cabin was very clean however a ‘deep clean’ we don’t think it had, we found 3 children’s felt tip pens between the sofa cushions, there were hand prints all over the windows (on the inside) and there was a grease stain all over the hob in the kitchen. In one of the bedroom en-suites there was a real bad smell, it smelt like off vegetables, this could well have been the sewage system who knows and something that probably can’t be helped but it was pleasant. There was also stains all over the dining room chairs and the sofas, aware nothing is going to stay pristine forever but white chairs maybe weren’t the best option.Very aware it is a self catering lodge but would have thought there would be some complimentary hand soap at least! We stayed for 3 nights and only got 2 dishwasher tablets and the tiniest amount of washing up liquid. If you were staying longer than 4 days you would literally need to bring the kitchen sink. It’s a real shame the access to Thoresby has been closed off too as there’s no where to go for a walk. Lastly, there are blinds and curtains at every window and door apart from the door you enter the lodge, very strange and a little exposing when this is the side of the lodge that all the other lodges are visible to, would have been nice for the privacy. On the whole we enjoyed the weekend and would return just needs the few little ‘added touches’ and attention to detail for the...

Really nice time away. Lets start with the location, needs more signage, there's one little sign which is dangerously close to the sharp turning into the park. By the time you've seen it you need to carry on miles up the road to be able to turn around. Remember, there's no amenities on site, that's not a negative as it's a 'hideaway' anything you need you will need to make a trip out for. The site looks well maintained grass cut, deep holes on the road are filled.

In terms of the lodge(s) I feel they could all use a lick of paint or oil they are starting to look a bit poorly. Insides are decorated lovely and is a really nice home feeling inside. I feel some attention needs to be brought to some of it, in our lodge some of the floor planks that have been used on the wall were peeling off, the down lights (spot lights) on the pitched part of the ceiling were all hanging out of the cut holes, various spot lights in the decking did not work. Just little bits like this sorted and this place could be a 5*. In terms of safety, everything is fairly safe, fire extinguishers around the site, inside the cabins, fire blankets provided all tested and within date. I would ask the site to remember that children come away on the holidays with family and the dishwashers fitted to the lodges (or at least the one we had) did not have the safety feature where the door needs to be closed for the dishwasher to activate. Half way through a hot wash our child pulled on the door it opened and it carried on spraying hot water everywhere. This may need looking into.

Maintenance is great, you see the guys early every morning treating the hot tubs cleaning the site helping keep it tidy. Again with maintenance, the hot tubs could use some attention, although very clean and enjoyable some of the jets did not work in the tub, not a major issue but maybe something that can be looked at.

We will definatley visit here again in the near future and would highly recommend it. Lots of local...

Our family's stay at Sherwood Hideaway was a complete and utter disaster, a stark contrast to the relaxing break we desperately needed with our 12-week-old baby. This experience was a masterclass in how to ruin a family holiday.

From the outset, we were misled. We specifically confirmed a travel cot would fit in the master bedroom, yet arrived to a lodge that was not only different from the advertised images but also completely unsuitable for our needs. The initial lodge was cramped and nothing like the photos, and the promised cot space simply didn't exist.

The "solution" was equally appalling. We were moved to a replacement lodge that was a catalogue of errors: a strong pet odor (despite not booking pet-friendly), a blocked dishwasher, a leaking shower, and a dangerously leaking ceiling. The state of the accommodation was unacceptable, clearly demonstrating run-down and poorly maintained lodges.

However, the accommodation issues were overshadowed by the utterly appalling customer service. Alison, a receptionist, was exceptionally rude and dismissive. She verbally attacked me, making false accusations and dismissing my concerns with a level of aggression that left me in tears. Her behavior was deeply unprofessional and incredibly upsetting. Promises of callbacks from management were consistently ignored, leaving us feeling completely disregarded.

This is not a family-friendly environment. The misleading information, the substandard accommodation, and the dismissive, abusive staff made our first family holiday a nightmare. We were made to feel like a burden, and the stress caused was immense.

Sherwood Hideaway is not worth the money. The lodges are not as advertised, the customer service is dreadful, and it is certainly not a place for families. If you are looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway, stay elsewhere. You will regret wasting your time and money on this...
