We stayed in the Buxton Suite (mum, dad, 5 year old and 15 month old). ||Firstly location..... A stones throw from Bewilderwood and Wroxham Barns both of which are great family days out. All local towns and villages are in very easy reach for meals etc. Then the best part.... walk down the beautiful spiral stair case from your room, open the large front door and get exploring ..... the main path from the front door is a 10-15 minute scoot for a 5 year old to the beautiful garden kitchen cafe (which is a great place with owners creating a lovely vibe, also super good value when balancing the amazing quality of the food). The woods and garden on your doorstep are large enough for a morning run, a few hours of kids climbing trees and hiding in the maze type paths (not to mention the layout of the beautiful Trees, plants and streams for those who like to take a few pictures) |||Self cater vs B&B? - we typically book self catering in Isle of Wight, Norfolk or other parts of Dorset for 3-5 night half terms/Easter etc......whilst we enjoy the young family tick boxes (kitchenette etc) all the questions you ask prior..... do you have cot(what type of cot, stair gates blah blah) then if your doing 5 nights does the room get cleaned also if you are self catering you are forever tidying..... then mum and dad quickly realise this will not be relaxing.... so why not pop an email to Rachel the owner and learn that all the faff can be removed for a very comparable cost. ||Room cleaned daily, access to a Fridge and microwave downstairs (for baby milk and store some alcohol etc), cot with proper mattress, a nice high chair, the list goes on.....||The stay.....||A lovely suite with open fire, chesterfield sofa etc for breakfast and relaxing. Harry fronts the breakfast, lovely ingredients and well cooked, Also if your interested Harry will share some snippets about the sites history if you ask him, Rachel and Harry (and family), are great, they get the balance perfect of leaving you get on with it, whilst showing they are there if you need. We didn’t need to but if you give a heads up other items could be offered for breakfast. ||The Buxton suite is large, very large, the two rooms , hall and family bathroom, with huge bath and luxurious walk in shower, such a lovely shower!!!! Beds, mattresses, bedding, towels all luxurious. WiFi fine for leisure and business , the tv is not smart, but neither the WiFi or Tv was part of our holiday. The decor and furnishings are all very in keeping, if you have little ones the layout is such you are not scared of ruining things, so kids could move around. the buxton without constant supervision. ||Parking etc.- ample and right outside, if you have gear (bikes etc, there is room to keep them somewhere safe) . Also if you are keen on cycling Norfolk this is one of the best bases. ||I have stayed in some great places both in the Uk and around the world, this ranks very highly, mostly as you feel relaxed from the time you book to the time you leave. Thank you to all|at Hoveton Hall. (Also very pandemic safe with all precautions in...
Read moreI love this place! We have been staying in various b&b’s around Norfolk for a number of years and whilst they have all been fantastic, there is undoubtedly something special about Hoveton Hall. ||First off the owners are so friendly and welcoming. We arrived with a toddler and a baby and they made us feel at home straight away. The immediate private gardens are perfect for children and my daughter enjoyed playing on the swings/ slides/ ride on tractors etc as well as kicking balls into the football net and trying out a bit of tennis. ||However then you venture into the gardens that are open to the public and wow! They are beautiful. We spent two whole mornings going on walks exploring these gardens and did not get fed up - I’m sure we still didn’t see everything! We were lucky that we were there on a warm and sunny Easter weekend and my daughter was even more delighted by the Easter egg hunt that was happening. ||The hall itself is lovely too - a real mix of a stately home and a family home. The children of the house were equally as welcoming and friendly and I loved how they were all dressed as Easter Bunnies and helping out in the gardens with the visitors over the weekend. |We were invited to share an evening drink with the family and their friends on the Saturday evening which was lovely and made us feel that we had found new friends! ||The room (the Buxton Suite) was spacious and comfortable and had everything you need. |The Super king bed was so comfortable that even when we were joined by a 3 year old and a baby it still felt like we had plenty of room! My partner said he had the best nights sleep in ages! There was a travel cot set up for the baby inclusive of sheets and blankets (not many places provide these). There was a selection of goodies (including gluten free biscuits for me!) |And wonderful warm fluffy and incredibly soft towels. Oh and I have to mention the shower. High pressured - just how I like! ||The breakfast was also wonderful- so much choice and my gluten free diet catered for perfectly. ||In summary this was just perfect. I cannot wait...
Read moreWe visited Hoveton Hall in early December for one night bed and breakfast and evening meal, as graciously agreed by Rachel Buxton on booking by telephone. ||The West Wing bedroom was spacious and very well appointed, as was the en-suite bathroom, with splendid views of the lake and thatched wet-boathouse etc...||Harry Buxton was happy to give us a potted history of the hall and his family predecessors , along with a tour of some of the major rooms. ||The Hall is a splendid Country House , but is also a family home for the Buxtons, and we were fortunate to meet their four charming children. ||A very fine dinner and an extensive choice of breakfast were taken in the open-fired heated library. ||After breakfast we took a leisurely stroll around the grounds, including the Spider- Gated garden, with unusually high espaliered walls; . It would have been more splendid in summer. ||For myself it was a wonderful memorable nostalgic return visit, made special by outstanding host and hostess . ||The cost was exceptionally low and we would recommend Hoveton Hall to all, particularly those who appreciate Grand Country-House bed and breakfast. ||Gordon and...
