The Shippon — Hotel in South Hams

I would love to say we had a fantastic time here but that would be a lie. We were due to travel there the 1st weekend in March 2018, 5 families to celebrate a 70th birthday, but then the Met Office issued red weather warning for this area, so to avoid travel. We contacted the owner and informed them that due to the red weather warning we would not be able to make it, but could we please have an alternative date, we did not request a refund just a change of date. (bearing in mind that most UK holiday firms had done this due to the seriously adverse weather) and they point blank refused. There was no sympathy or understanding on their part, their reply was you should have taken out cancellation insurance.. Now as most of you would know cancellation only works if the venue cancels on you or a serious illness or death occurs. so the chances of claiming were slim to none. They were asked to think about the change of date as looking at their calendar there were still free weekends we did not demand an immediate answer. and they flat our refused. So my advice is think twice before booking here as if for any reason you cannot make it, they will keep your money and not think twice about it. Very very disappointed and disgusted with the...

I have just returned home after a wonderful week with all my family, my two daughters and son, plus their other halves and my 7 grandchildren. This house was the best property we have ever stayed in. It was perfect for a family holiday. Each room had its own private bathroom, which is a godsend for 14 people. Most of them had a bath as well as a shower which was lovely. Everything you could possibly need was provided and good quality crockery and glasses were plentiful. The views from the Shippon were fantastic and it was very peaceful. The hot tubs were brilliant and were used frequently. The games room was brilliant for the children to chill out and play board games and table tennis. There was also a TV in there too. A nice feature was the large square dining table which accommodated all the family. There were plenty of comfortable sofas in the lounge. Often there is not enough comfortable seating for everyone but this was ample for us all. Every bedroom was lovely and the beds very comfortable. This is by far and above the best house we have ever been too and would highly recommend it.

We stayed here for my sisters hen weekend a little while ago now and forgot to post a review back then (sorry) .. this was until I started to look for a venue for a family gathering & remembered this gem of a place!

Absolutely stunning location and great layout for a group gathering. The hot tubs and games room (plus the kitchen) were fabulous and had plenty of space for all of us. All the guests in the party ranging from 60plus to teenagers had such a lovely time here. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us either and were very pleasant. I can’t quite believe this place hasn’t got glowing 5 star reviews as this is honestly one of the better property’s I’ve stayed in.

The whole accommodation was spotlessly clean, the beds were comfy, plenty of bathrooms, kitchen was very well equipped definitely worth a visit!
