Managed to get a table for two here at short notice on father's day. Lovely old style country pub within a 30 minute drive from home. Why have I not come here sooner?! The Sunday carvery was outstanding value at £11.95 Choice of three types of meat (Beef, Turkey or Pork) or some of each and all well cooked. Help yourself to about 6 different types of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Had a drink each with the food (gin & tonic plus a pint if OJ and lemonade) followed by a generous and tasty desert of blackberry and apple crumble & custard for me and a large slice of chocolate fudge cake for my sister. Decided a coffee was in order to finish and had this in the garden after a short wait. All this before a tip was comfortably under £50! I have paid considerably more for a lesser meal in so called high end establishments. Sheila and her staff did an amazing job today. Very busy day with one large party showing up late and throwing all the timings out by over an hour, yet they still coped remarkably well! They also have a huge garden where children can let off some energy after thier meal. Just 5 minutes off junction 6 of the M40 in Oxfordshire on the A40 at Postcombe. The England's Rose deserves a lot more custom than it gets and I recommend you give it a try if you are in the area. If not, make a detour!!! Came back this Wednesday for an afternoon tea, oh my was it good! Everything about it was superb from the 'starter' of jelly & fruit right down to the miniature cakes and of course the tea and scones. I am already planning a return! The England's Rose deserves to be a lot busier than it is so go and try it soon! Thanks to Sheila and the staff for running a realy great Pub! See...
Read moreOh dear what a shambles of a place! Popped in for dinner with the family which included 3 grandchildren. We were the o lay customers to request food and it took over an hour. There was only one person covering the bar and the kitchen and that person was definitely pass retirement. My daughter went to help him with our food and noticed he didnt wash his hands, he used the same utensils for cooked and uncooked food and the kitchen was a mess. The owner was upstairs having a day off! We asked to speak to the owners and voiced our concerns about the service, only one person on shift, uncooked sausages, fish and Fish fingers that looked awful but the children were so hungry by then they would eat anything. The only saving grace was the very tasty ham but even that had an awful lot of fat. We refused to pay for the food but we did pay for our drinks. It's a shame because the very large pub garden is great for children . The gardener needs to pay more attention to nettles around the childrens play equipment and the slide needs to be stabilised Would we go back? Unlikely, but if the hygiene rating was improved we might. We were told the hygiene rating was 4 but we didnt see any obvious signs indicating this. Google wouldn't let me post this without a star rating so the 1 star is giving...
Read moreThree of us nipped in for a Friday lunch/ work planning session. The greeting was really friendly. You immediately drop into a conversation that makes you feel like you’ve known these people most of your life. A bar that is as comfortable as your front room with a wonderful dining area next door. We were given a quick tour to see the carvery in response to our conversation about their Sunday roasts. Definitely coming back for that after the quality of the lunch. We ate and drank in the rear garden which is exceedingly child friendly, with play equipment and a massive area to run around in. We had another long chat after lunch about the premises, about movies and books and about the Royal wedding. I’d recommend this place to anyone, what’s not to love? They offer everything you could possibly want and more, and all at a reasonable price. I’m probably going to become quite a...
