What a wonderful find! We were supposed to be travelling home by car from Mother Ivey's Bay, Cornwall to Wilmslow, Cheshire, but decided that we'd stay over in Cotswold country - so glad we did! From the moment we walked through the door (after booking online the night before and phoning ahead for a dinner reservation) Chloe couldn't do enough for us and my little Greek rescue dog. She set us up in the snug and brought doggy treats for Meli and drinks. Any reviews about the hotel being 'tired' and 'dated' are totally unfounded in our opinion... 🤨If you want boutique splendour you can pay twice as much down the road. The twin room was gorgeous, overlooking the tiny crossroads between the school and the Common. When we arrived at 19:00 there were cows 🐄🐄🐄just ambling across the roads and then eating in people's gardens 🏡😳😆 It really is a special place. The bathroom was a little dated but worked perfectly well, with a lovely strong shower🚿 and white, sumptuous towels on a warm towel rail. Very comfy beds and squishy pillows and duvet with crisp, white linen❤️ Dinner was delicious, steak cooked to perfection and, again, Chloe couldn't do enough for us - the hotel will miss her when she starts her Manchester apprenticeship... If you like puddings DO try the pannacotta (I think it was called) as it was truly delicious with rhubarb on the side and locally made ice cream. I was able to take Meli on the Common for a little walk and also able to use the little grassed beer garden for her last wee at night and first thing in the morning :-) Breakfast was a feast (for my husband) and I had scrambled eggs. Again, very tasty. After Covid restrictions I think it's more buffet service but everything was brought to us promptly and asking for extra butter wasn't a problem. We even got some local yoghurts which were lovely too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return to explore the area more. Thank you Amberley Inn. A perfect end to our holiday in the UK Wendy,...
Read moreWe stayed at The Amberley last weekend for 3 nights with our Border Collie Puppy as part of my husband's 50th birthday celebrations. We had a room at the top of the cottage opposite the garden. (No. 25) The room was basic (a large bed, dressing table, hangers & hooks for clothes, tea/coffee making facilities and a telly) with plenty of space for the dog crate and other puppy paraphernalia! There was a 'hallway' as you entered the the room - great for leaving our damp clothing and shoes in with a large, clean, white bathroom off it to the right. The carpet had a few small stains but otherwise the room was clean & bright. 2 chairs in the room would have been nice but many places only ever provide one but it suited us just fine. We ate here each day. There's a great choice for breakfast and the meals on offer were very tasty and great value for money. The Sunday Lunch was sublime! We had family join us for Sunday lunch, so 7 in total, 5 adults and 2 children. We were allowed to move our booking and pre-order our meal. The children, not really roast fans, were able to pick anything from the menu which made for a relaxed dining experience. The staff were very friendly, extremely helpful and so accommodating. The location, especially if you are walkers or dog owners is fabulous. We had a super time and would thoroughly recommend. Thank you all at...
Read moreMyself and my wife stayed for one night whilst visiting a National Trust property. The Inn is a typical attractive Cotswold Pub with rooms and the reception, bars and restaurant looked attractive. We had booked a "classic" room (22). This was in the cottages at the back of the property and this unfortunately was where things started to go down hill. Firstly, the good points: the room was clean and warm and the bed comfortable but the room was in poor condition with moldy bath grouting and moldy window frames that were beginning to rot. The double-glazing was blown and the outside windows dirty. The carpet was stained and some furniture badly scratched. The ceiling paint was cracked and the skirting, scuffed and dusty. It looks as if the fixtures and fittings were probably several decades old and are showing their age.|We ate in the restaurant and the meal was pleasant but be aware, at the time of writing the menu displayed on the website was approximately 30% less than the actual prices. |I suspect that any investment has been made has been to the rooms in the main building. These are rooms marketed as...
