As a family group of 7, we really enjoyed our stay because this is rural Devon at its best. The farm is a stone’s throw from the more atmospheric parts of Dartmoor and from some achingly pretty villages which nestle on its flanks. The other factor was the accommodation which was superb. There was every attention to detail and our hosts had thought through the needs of guests very carefully. For example, the beds are very comfortable, each cottage had an en suite bathroom and a second toilet. We could wash and dry our clothes and the dishwasher did the business. The extra sparkle for us was the indoor pool and a games room with billiards table, air hockey and jukebox and the 39 acres of farmland with two bluebell woods and their own private Tor for nighttime stargazing. This place really leads amongst some other excellent holiday cottages we’ve rented over the years. Oh, I forgot to mention that our hosts Paul and Jan and their adorable doggie made us so welcome and provided a starter kit of Devon foods such as a clotted cream tea and fresh eggs from...
Read moreMy family and I returned to Lower Elsford Farm for the second time earlier this month (having stayed in Garden Cottage and most recently Torfield). The farm has excellent facilities such as the recently refurbished heated indoor swimming pool, play park, games room and plenty of walks from the door. The cottages are equipped and furnished to a very high standard and having a cot available (and stair gates) is just perfect when you're travelling with a young family. You can really tell the owners care about their cottages and the quality of everything from decor to kitchen equipment is really very high.
We've yet to find a better self catering holiday cottage, you won't be disappointed if you stay here!
Big thank you to Paul and Jan (and Lola of course) for sharing their wonderful farm! And thank you to the friendly chickens for laying some eggs for us!
One side note: follow the arrival instructions provided and not your satnav, otherwise you may end up down a lot of rather small single...
Read moreThis was our 3rd visit back to the farm and each year it just gets better and better. Paul and Jan are the most incredible hosts, welcoming, generous and nothing is too much trouble if you need anything. The accommodation is to a very high standard and the pool has been refurbished this year. What we love about lower elsford farm is there is something for every age...games room, playground, table tennis, firepit and of course the pool. Our children are 6 and 8 and it feels so safe for them to have a little freedom to roam. The children loved looking for fresh eggs each day too. The farm is about 15mins from Bovey Tracey itself so whilst this means driving up some pretty narrow roads, the rural setting and walks from the farm are breathtaking. Already booked...
