Camp & Tell ~ campsite review
What a wonderful weekend of weather & what a wonderful place to stay!
If you’re looking for a campsite with a difference then this is the one for you! Camping at a vineyard in Devon, what’s not to love. We’ll try and capture it within our usual parameters but this one doesn’t fit inside a box so read between the lines…..
📍 location, it’s heaven in Devon & it was heaven on earth this weekend. Winkleigh is in the middle of nowhere and we’d planned on a walk Saturday. But, here’s the thing, there are literally no foot paths in this part of Devon. So, if you’re looking for a quiet spot to chill & quaff wine location is 5/5 if you’re looking for something off site then take a car or bike and head off further afield for the day.
🚻 facilities ~ compost loo with Leylandi clippings, shower with plentiful water, a bottle shop with wine and apple juice made by Toby & Esther the owners and fresh eggs from the chicks. You can have a fire & bbq as long as off the ground and you can buy or forage wood. Theres a washing up station & chemical loo disposal. There’s a field of dreams for kids (or big kids like us) with swing ball a sandpit & football pitch. The village of Winkleigh has 2 pubs, we tried the Kings Arms. There’s no electric hook up but with that sun it didn’t matter!! We loved every minute 5/5
💰 Value for money ~ Yes! They do a weekend package £60 for 2 nights camping and vineyard tour. Plus there’s glamping too! 5/5

Read moreWe stayed at Ten Acres for five nights on a camping pitch. The site was just fabulous, with only small number of pitches, giving it quite an intimate feel. The location is really quiet, but well-located for loads of great activities including cycling, surfing, walking and the myriad of great beaches in the area.||||It was lovely to have the vines in such close proximity to the camping area, and having sampled the wines in the onsite shop, we were then able to enjoy the wine whilst looking across to where the magic happened!||||The owners, Esther and Toby, were very welcoming indeed, and were always keen to hear about our daily adventures, and asking for recommendations to give to future guests.||||The facilities onsite were always very clean, and the only thing that could improve them would be hot water at the washing up area – but that is easily fixed with boiling some extra water at the tent when making a brew. There is a separate play field for the kids, which takes their play away from the main tent area whilst still being safe. There were also other outdoor games available, including table tennis and boules which our son really enjoyed using with other kids on the site.||||We very much enjoyed our stay at Ten Acres, and would strongly recommend it. We came away feeling very relaxed and wishing we could have stayed for longer - we will definitely...
Read moreBeautiful and quiet vineyard with space for a get away camp with friends, family or private getaway with a partner. The hosts are super friendly and attentive. Great facilities. Toilets, shower, shared fridge/freezer, use of plugs for charging. Off ground fires are allowed, theres an area for on ground fires and bbq. The hosts also have a Ooni pizza oven area and they supply dough kits to make fresh pizzas. The cabin on site is supplied with typical needs for camping; wood, small food items, pegs, drinks etc. Being a vineyard you can purchase various bottles of wines, recommend the "Greenfinch" white wine made on site. Been coming here annually for 4yrs+ and never let down. When the sun is out its great but even without its still a wonderful stay! As an avid camper having gone to multiple sites of various conditions this is definitely a hidden gem that's one to always come back to. Good location for trips in a car to Devon/Dorset and Cornwall as well as coastal spots. Short walk to a local pub too (The Kings Arms). If you like a quiet and beautiful camping spot,...
