We recently stayed here for a night. We had an Executive room which was £140 for the night. IMO it is overpriced but we were attending a wedding and it was easier to spend the night. The hotel grounds and the surroundings/views are fantastic. Our room and the bed was large and comfortable, although the shower was lacking in pressure. The blackout curtains were great and blocked the light perfectly, we had a great night's sleep. I was impressed with the room although for £140 a night, you'd expect to be impressed.
There is a pub that is is part of the hotel called The Jacobean Pub. It looks really nice and they have a good selection of beers available. Unfortunately we were refused service after checking in, because were wedding guests. We were told that we had to use the bar in the wedding area, which was a smaller bar with less choice. We were paying guests and we paid the same rate as every other hotel guest therefore I don't understand why we weren't allowed to buy a beer at the "Jacobean Pub". They had a much better selection of beers than the wedding bar. I explained to the bar woman that I was a guest, staying in an executive room, yet she rudely refused to serve me a Pale Ale. I was also the only customer at the bar at the time. She then walked away and abruptly told me to direct my complaint to the manager. Very poor customer service!
I did send a complain to Rogerthorpe Manor and they did refund me £50. That's a satisfactory result, but I would've preferred to have access to all the services of the hotel at the time, without having to submit a complaint.
The drinks are very expensive and overpriced. I ordered a beer (Birra Moretti) and 2 small (200ml) bottles of Prosecco. My jaw dropped when I was asked for £23! Rip off!! I also ordered a bottle of Shiraz, which wasnt anything fancy, probably £8 a bottle in Tesco. They charged me £22!... They seem to think they're located in Central London.
On the plus side, the included breakfast buffet was really good and much needed. It included all the usual English breakfast items, plus unlimited coffee, apple juice etc. All the food was fresh and warm. We had some great views for breakfast too which is always nice.
Overall, I wouldn't stop here again, nor would I have my wedding here. I wouldn't want my guests to pay these ridiculous prices nor be spoken to as rudely as I was in the Jacobean Pub. It does seem that this was a one-off though, as all the other reviews are...
Read moreOur special day 26.08.2022 From us visiting RogerThorpe manor just to check pricing in august 2020, we fell madly in love with the place. We was a little worried about putting a £1000 deposit down when we was still in a pandemic, but Karen was our designated wedding planner , and she put our minds at ease so we booked a week after seeing the place,
Karen just went above & beyond for us, I was a little pain, swopping & changing things, and also adding things to our special day, but Karen being a trooper didn’t worry, nothing was ever a bother to her, I trusted her with our amazing day from the get go! We spoke about the packages they put together they looked amazing, but we wanted to bespoke ours, so we chose our own little package.
leading Upto our special day Karen & kerry would keep me in the loop about anything, emails pretty much every month just checking in, We felt like We could trust this amazing venue with anything.
me & my bridesmaids were staying at the hotel so we could get ready & just enjoy the day without any added stresses. We had a meal the night before which was just Devine.
The morning of the wedding came Karen sent some Prosecco Upto our rooms so we could all get ready in style, we double checked through everything to make sure I was happy where everything was going.
My husband was blown away with how everything looked in the room, as was I, we booked sugar fairy weddings to decorate our gorgeous room, she’s exceeded our expectations by 1000%! The staff at roger Thorpe are amazing, from the bar staff, and waitresses, reception staff they made us feel so at ease so thank you so much
The day it’s self was so beautiful, everything just went perfect, and it’s really down to the people running the show, which is Karen & her team, we can’t thank you enough you really run a tight but successful ship here at RogerThorpe manor hotel, and we can’t wait to come back next year for our first year anniversary. So thank you Mr &...
Read moreNever stay at this hotel if there's a wedding taking place.
Imagine being in a room attached to Pacha in Ibiza and you've got an idea of just how awful this place is.
We asked to be moved to another room and were told that the hotel was fully booked, which is strange because when I checked Booking.com they were still showing availability. 🤷🏻♂️
The staff were unsympathetic and kept referring to an email that we had been sent which stated that there could be 'some noise' due to a function. Because we were travelling from overseas we hadn't been using data roaming and only received the email the day before arrival, by which time it was impossible to find anywhere else in the area. Another point that needs to be raised is the fact that the staff member at reception either doesn't know the layout of the hotel or lied about the location of our room, stating that room 12 was at the front of the building, away from the function. It isn't. It's directly above the function room. This raises the question, 'why not give the room nearest the function to someone who is attending it?' This would leave rooms further away for regular hotel guests. There is no logic in how the rooms have been allocated.
'Some noise' is a complete understatement. To add insult to injury the fire alarm went off at 11pm. Did this stop anything? No. The party continued as if nothing had happened.
The hotel should make people aware that an event is taking place at the time of booking, not a few days before arrival.
In this instance the decent thing to do would be to offer a full refund. I paid for a stay in a hotel, not a trip to...
